I just brewed an extract kit that someone gave me. I noticed that after I cooled the wort, the cold break material had been floating around and had not settled to the bottom of the kettle. I tried to run it through a strainer, but it did no good. Needless to say, it all wound up in my carboy. Now there is a least 4 inches of sludge in the bottom of my fermenter. Is it okay to pitch the yeast and just let it do it's thing, or should I try to siphon it into another carboy? Here is what it looks like [IMG]

It's settled a little more, but there is still probably a good 2 inches.

My suggestion is to pitch "as is". The cold break will continue to settle and when fermentation is complete you can rack off the top to minimize haze. This isn't ideal, but another double transfer is another set of problems.

It will continue to settle. By the time you're ready to rack, it won't even be an issue.

Thanks for the fast replies everyone. Yeast is pitched, all is good.
