    Hi,
First post on the site. I need help with a Superior Products beer tap. I'm trying to fix it. Actually, it will be more like a rebuild. It has what I have been told at my local beer distributor is a Sankey tap on it. It's the old type that screwed onto the barrel. I'd like to change out the bottom with a new ball tap to dispense some Stella Artois, but I will need some parts for the rebuild. Does anyone know where I can get some new parts for the tap to rebuild it? I don't know exactly what the parts would be called, but if anyone knows where I might be able to get the parts, let me know. I can describe more about the parts at that time rather than try to describe them now. I don't even know if there are any parts available at all for the tap, and if there aren't, there is no use in getting involved any further. Thanks, Lew

Very confused with what you are talking about. Is this a Superior kegerator, and you are talking about changing the coupler (also called a Sankey)? Not sure what you mean by changing it to a ball tap? Do you mean a modern coupler that rotates a quarter turn or so into the barrel, and then has a handle to activate it? If so, then all you need to do is cut off the beer line and attach the new coupler. You will need a tail piece, a washer and a hose clamp for this, and for the gas side you will need a tail piece, a hose clamp and a duck bill washer.

Hi Doug. Thanks for your reply. I have an older type tap from what I understand. I went to a beer distributor and he told me that the type of tap that I have isn't used anymore. It screws onto the barrel. He told me that I may be able to change the bottom of it below the hex nut and put on an adaptor or something like that. I want to use the tap if possible for some Stella Artois. I took the tap apart and there is at least one part that is all dry rotted and that I would like to replace. The tap is all chrome, with a pump cylinder that is about 1 1/2" in diameter and about 11" tall. It has a T handle on it to pump air into the keg so that the beer can come out. I have also seen the same tap with a ball handle on it. The overall height is about 20", and it used to just screw down onto a keg, you would pump the handle and move the tap handle, which is black to dispense the beer. Yes what I need is the 1/4 turn coupler, but I need one for a European keg. At least that is what I've been told. It has been years since I've seen my tap. I was cleaning out the garage and found it. I really don't know much about it, other than it needs some parts and needs a severe cleaning and rebuild. The main part I would like to replace is all dry rotted and goes on a stem that sticks out of the bottom of the pump. I took the hose off, and it is clamped to a chrome fitting that can be taken off to clean the pump. The part is actually connected to the bottom of the tap and looks like a piece of rubber hose that has been heated up and a hole drilled in it that is about 1/16" and it is about 5/8" long. It may be some sort of restrictor that slows the air going into the keg. Lew

OK, I'm following now. It's a party pump. The issue with this is going to be that you are pumping air into the keg which will oxidize the beer. A set up like this is only good for a one or two day event. You will spend time and money trying to make this work and it will be a sub optimal solution at best, if possible at all. I'd say move on from this idea. Go to ebay and search "beer party pump".

OK, I guess it goes in the scrap pile. I can get 1/6 kegs of Stella and don't want to ruin it. Is there any other way other than buying a decent kegerator to drink my Stella?

You can buy a party pump style coupler that uses CO2. There are some like that on eBay and likely elsewhere. You need to confirm what style coupler it is, the US standard is D. Looks like Stella is an S.

Thanks, Doug. I'll take a look on Ebay then. Lew
