Don't get me wrong, I love Mosaic too! But I was hoping to brew up a crushable beer that features Nelson hops. There's a recipe from the gold medal winner from the 2016 National Homebrew Competition in the English Pale Ale category in which he uses 100% Mosaic hops. Can I simply keep the recipe the same but use Nelson instead of the Mosaic? I know Nelson is known for kind of a white wine/grape smell and taste but I swear I thought it had grassy and dank features as well which I'm really looking for. Thanks for any feedback!
I say go for it. I never get the white wine from it. It's always grassy and lemon for me. My favorite is all pilsner malt and 100% Nelson. Dry hop the crap out of it!
Half Mosaic and half Nelson would be great I bet! I'll make that plan B; I'm hoping to do 100% Nelson to experience the full profile of this fully armed and operational NZ hop! Thanks for the feedback!
Definitely go for it! And since they have relatively the same AA%, you won't have to adjust the amounts at all to maintain around the same IBUs
I was thinking Full Nelson would be a good name for this beer, but of course the name's been taken by like 10 breweries already...
All Nelson IPAs are awesome...go for the 100% Nelson and just use a basic grain bill so you can actually decide how the Nelson tastes, smells and bitters, if you don't have much experience with it yet.
