I'll be there. Don't know exactly what day yet - either Friday or Saturday. Haven't missed it for 10 years or so, not planning on starting now.
I might be going to the late session on Saturday. NERAX is such a cool event. Glad to see the NERAX North is back in Haverhill.
If you're coming on Friday evening, we hope you'll also join the Tutored Tasting with the owner of Elland Brewery, this year's winner of Champion Beer of Britain. Also, we're still looking for volunteers, especially for the evening session on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing you next week!
And kingcrowning... NERAX is probably my favorite fest of all of them that I go to - which is most of them in the Boston area) First is just the vibe of it. There are no (or minimal) tickers, people just going to try some ridiculously rare beer, and few people there just to just plastered. It's a great celebration of one of the forgotten styles of beer serving - if that makes sense. Everyone who is there is super friendly, including those working the fest. It is a pay as you go fest, though it's a low entry fee, so you can drink as much or little as you want without feeling you have to make up for the entry. There's always some interesting beers, things you wouldn't normally see on cask, and ones you don't see in this area of the US. PLus, the people running it are very knowledgable about cask beer, and how to store, serve and present it.
It sounds so perfect. Being able to purchase an imperial pint of a Vienna Lager with folks who appreciate the same is something I long for. Alas, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it.....woe is me.
This is a serious question, what do you get for the $10 door charge? From what I see all beers are pay as you go and if you want a glass that is extra. So is it just a cover charge to walk through the door? thanks for any clarification.
the $10, IMO is to cover the rent of the venue, and related security and so forth. the cost of the beer is, well, cost of beer.
I'll be there! Every session. http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/64425 http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/64426 http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/64427 http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/64428
all details are in the link jason provided in the OP. yes, there is a cover, but you are getting a chance to try many award-winning UK and domestic beers, in properly-managed cask format, the latter of which almost NEVER show up in this hemisphere EXCEPT for events like NERAX. and the $6 full pints are true UK imperial pints of 20 ounces, not the US standard of just 16oz.
I asked the NERAX org via Facebook just a little while ago, they said that they are not putting the list up online this time around. Just go in and get the list. Apparantly. Don';t know if this is how they'll do it ongoing, or if this is a test right now.
