Okay, I don't proclaim to know everything there is to know about beer/ale. But I have tasted a lot of different styles and brews. Beside barrel aged enhancements, slight alterations of existing styles, etc., does anyone think that there is some Friar-hidden secret recipe, just waiting to be discovered, that might reignite my sagging ale passion? Just curious.
The first years of my beer drinking time were when there was just Mild and Bitter plus Guinness. It was an adventure to go to another area and discover the Mild and Bitter from another brewer. And guess what,we loved drinking in our pubs and never tired of the brews. About 40 years ago the "craft revolution" began and our horizons spread. But I still have found nothing I enjoy better than the beers I grew up with. It is always pleasant to try new things but there is a very good reason why some styles are obscure.
You didn't put a 'winky face' with your post! You're serious? I'll suggest to the OP to drink wine for a month, then beer will be refreshing again.

Oh, hell, yeah! A few weeks on juniper twigs and ancient herbs will make a new man out of you. They're medicinal, you know. Edit: Wine is good, too.
