I walked by a new bar under construction on Cambridge St across from Whole Foods near Ma Soba in Beacon Hill that looks like it has 30 or so taps set up (edit: I'm a terrible counter so this is a ballpark estimate). Anybody have any info on this?

30 taps? Nice. The Rattlesnake has a pretty good beer selection these days.

The Chinese restaurant that this bar is taking over the space from was the first bar I was ever served at while a freshman at Suffolk. RIP Shangri La and your loose drinking age requirements.

I guess regular bacon is too pedestrian too....

I'll eat them ... I'd prefer eating a better cut of meat than "steak tips" that should have been ground up for burgers. I'm all for the game meat as well, hopefully their beer list is just as interesting.

Define what a rich person is ... I'd love to know.

Seriously? What a waste of elk.
I suspect the beer prices may make Stoddard's look like a bargain.

The Eater website has a photo of their taps (click on middle photo to enlarge). It looks OK, but nothing spectacular (soooo many macros).

Going from left to right, here's what I can identify in the photo:

    -Heineken
    -PBR
    -Stella Artois
    -Brooklyn Lager
    -Sam Adams Lager
    -Sam Adams Seasonal
    -Blue Moon
    -Shocktop
    -Hoegaarden?

To fill in your "not sure's", it is Sea Dog, German something, that 'houblon' might be a Mayflower tap, Ommegang Hennepin. Then right of Sierra Nevada would be Kona, and then I think Widmer.

So it is basically similar to Scholar's or Kinsale, both of which aren't too far away.

Was hoping for a bit more, but at least it's another halfway decent place to drink downtown, assuming prices aren't crazy...

So its nothing but Macros and IPA's? It looks like a taplist designed by someone who just started drinking beer 6 months ago and doesn't know about any beers other than the most common IPA's and whatever his step dad drinks.

Looking forward to having a nice refreshing gin & tonic with my lobster tips. Like a proper rich person.

Fuck rich people's gin & tonics.

And on-topic, while the taps don't look too crazy, it mentions 100 beers and 36 taps, so maybe there will be a decent bottle selection. (Although I'm often loathe to spend the price for a bottle at a bar that I can pick up off the shelf at a store for much cheaper).

Another place opening up, The Back Deck, is sticking to mostly locals which is nice to see. It isn't that strong of a menu, but I applaud the fact they are sticking to the New England area for their beers.

Back Deck drink and food menu.

I've been looking forward to that place, as Downtown Crossing suddenly has a blossoming beer scene, between Scholar's, Stoddard's, Curley's, and Wirth's - I was hoping Back Deck would be another nice addition to the area.

Unfortunately that list is quite underwhelming. Prices are pretty good, but if you're only going to have 8 taps, we really don't need yet another Boston bar with Sam's Seasonal and Brick Red...
