So, I found out the restaurant my brother works at has an amazing cellar. I was able to get some vintage stuff, as well as current releases- all/most of which I've never heard before.

So, knowing that I won't be drinking them in the same night, let alone week or month, should I start with the older bottle, or the newer bottle?

The main example- I've got a 2012 & 2015 Fremont Bourbon Abominable. I've never had this beer, and am wondering which one I should drink first? I'm not necessarily looking at cellaring either of them for that long.

(FYI- most my "cellar" stuff has been procured within the last couple months- keeping them in the regular cold-ish beer fridge).

I like to do newest first, I think it makes it easier to detect any changes due to age/cellaring.

If I haven't had it before I'll go new first, but if I have, I go old first.

Congrats on the finds! Having the 2015 first would be my call, and maybe even aging the 2012 for an extra year or two. A side by side tasting of the two would be good anytime though with that year difference and style of beer.

Open them both and do a side by side comparison with a glass of water to cleanse the pallet. Get some help with buddies if you don't want to drink them both. Should be able to get a great idea of how things change with age.

    Enjoy!

If I have the choice and it's new to me. I want the more recent example so I can have a reference point to go on.
