Didn't know if this had already been posted, but looks like Lowry Beer Garden is opening today. Hadn't heard anything about it, but the photos look promising. Looking forward to hopefully making it out there this weekend. Anyone heard any interesting info on the new beer garden?

    Cheers,
    Ben

Yeah, they were open for facebook friends on monday, had a charity event yesterday and officially opened today at 4. Too bad the weather was crap. I've been sick all week, but hope to make it out there in the next day or two. Tap list didn't look mind blowing or anything, but still seemed pretty solid. They're right next to the wings over the rockies air & space museum. Cool spot.

I'm psyched to head over there this weekend. The biergarten experience is one of the main things we've been missing. They have the Copper Kettle helles on tap, and it's one of the legit versions of that oh-so-traditional biergarten style around, too. Glad to see some more things showing up on the SE side of town.

That beer list is a joke, and the markups are absurd (check out their facebook page). $20 & $21 for Glider Cider on a $5 cost item. Not to mention doesn't not even list bottle sizes. Places like this drive me crazy. They are supposed to be "craft beer" places. Congratulations on the least interesting beer list for a "beer place"... On a happier note. I went to Hops & Pie tonight and that place is amazing. They certainly get it. Every neighborhood in Colorado needs a place like that!

Most "real" biergartens have a tap-list with a whopping 2-5 options and inflated prices. It's an ambience thing, not an attempt at competing with the Falling Rock or Freshcraft. For what it is, it's not bad.

How dare you use a French word to describe a German cultural mainstay in a city named after a governor of a territory named after a Native tribe in a country named after an Italian explorer!

    But I agree :grimacing:

If it's a bit pricey and with limited options, I'll give it a try but so many awesome places to go in other parts of the city!!

When I'm in Denver I spend most of time at Freshcraft, Great Divide, Falling Rock, Star Bar and Renegade. Also spend time at Dry Dock, Wit's End, Wynkoop, etc. This biergarten better be fun or I'm moving on

Having limited time in Denver I would certainly steer you towards the micros you listed, but on a nice lazy sunny summer day I'm looking forward to visiting this guy.

FWIW, I didn't really delve too deep into the bottle prices (I tend to stick to drafts), but $5.25 for a draft is only about .25 more than what I normally expect to pay.. I guess maybe $4 at any patron-respecting bar, but still.

If I lived in Denver I might spend a lazy summer day or two there. But live in Ft. Collins so have limited visits, so pick the places with great selection (i.e. Freshcraft and Falling Rock) or good beer (i.e. Great Divide and Renegade)

It's pretty close to my neck of the woods and I love biergartens, so I'm pretty excited. It's certainly no replacement for a great beer bar or brewery, but that's not really the point. It's more if a social gathering spot with beers and food available.

Agreed. The wife and I took the kids and met some friends there for dinner last night. We liked it. Food was really tasty and reasonably priced. I had a thick, juicy burger with bacon, blue cheese, onions and mushrooms for $6. You place your food order and they text you when it's ready for pickup. I thought it was a quick and efficient system. They have people walking around with order numbers on white boards for the non-texters in the crowd. They were rocking last night, but I thought they kept the orders moving pretty well.

Had a Tank 7, Maharaja and Mycenary and all were $5 - $5.50, which seemed reasonable.

They've got ping pong tables and tv's. It was a little cool last night and they had heat lamps on and blankets
available. They told me they plan to be open year round. The floor is heated and the sides have doors that roll down to block out the wind and cold.

Anyway, we liked it. Really kid friendly. I could see us making another trip to tie it in with the Wings Over the Rockies museum next door.

It's another nice option for that side of town. Yeah, it's not Falling Rock or FreshCraft, but for us, it's a fun place to go with good food and beer. As someone who lives on that side of Denver, I can go without fighting traffic or parking downtown and I wouldn't feel strange bringing the kids. Loved the atmosphere. I could easily sit out there for a few hours with some good weather and the right company. It was beautiful out last night.

Depending on where you're coming from, it wouldn't be too hard to tie in a trip to Copper Kettle, Bull & Bush, Caution or maybe even the new Dry Dock facility when they open. I'll be doing a little blogging on them in a few days, but they've got our vote. I wish them the best of luck.

As you might guess from my Avatar, I am huge fan of biergartens. I lived in Munich for a while and visited 45 or so in the area (all from the Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich) so I am excited to have something similar in the Denver area.

I was at LBG on Tuesday, and I am hopeful. I like the selection of beers they have. Nothing earth shattering but some good choices on draft. They have Mercenary and Maharaja for $5.25 a pint (and presumably $4.25 during HH) but I am doubtful those prices/sizes will last. I do think that $5.25/pint for Mama's, etc. is high, but I will pay for the atmosphere.

I think the "atmosphere" is OK. The tables / benches are right on, even the gravel is "authentic". Unfortunately, there aren't huge shade trees, but hopefully there will be in 30 years. I wish they had a bring your own food option (and maybe they do, I didn't ask) and I wish they at least had a small playground for kids to play on. Even something similar to that homemade train that Golden City used to have would be cool. I think they will realize that a true gathering, social place will include beer drinkers with kids, especially in a neighborhood like Lowry.

My food experience was horrible, in that it took 58 minutes to get my text and the food was cold (tasty though). I will chalk that up to opening week jitters and I will definitely be back.

I am also hoping that Prost hits their biergarten out of the park.

Well, I tried to go today...but ran into a weird situation that makes me really wonder about this place.
Per their website and Facebook, they open at 11. When I rolled up (at 1PM) there were 4-5 other cars showing up at the same time.
The entrance was blocked, but there were employees in the back sitting around. We yelled at them (this was about 40 yards away), but they completely ignored us.
After a few minutes (and about 15 cars showing up and doing the same thing) some guy finally came out and said they weren't going to be open until 4PM and acted perturbed that we didn't mysteriously know with no sign anywhere and the other people ignoring us.
After hunting around around I did find a retweet they posted (from some random other person) that mentioned a 4PM opening time...but that's the only mention I saw anywhere.
Hopefully they'll get things together in the near future as it does seem like a pretty nice facility.
In the 10 minutes or so we were there, I must've seen 25 people in the same boat. Seems like people definitely know about the place, but they made a lot of people mad with this fiasco.

Wow...I was going to go earlier today. Glad I didn't. Their website is a little confusing, I think they need to clarify it better:

    Tapping Hours:
    May 23-June 1:
    4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
    Monday-Friday
    4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
    Saturday-Sunday
    11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

And to add to the confusion, I saw one obscure reply on FB and one obscure reply on Twitter that they are opening at 11 AM Monday, Memorial Day...I might go today, but will call ahead for sure.

That sounds really frustrating... I think the deal was they were opening at 4PM on sat / sun and beginning today, they were going to be open from 11am - midnight, 7 days / week. It's not really clear, but that's what I kind of deciphered between the facebook page and website. Their happy hour starts at 3pm, which leads me to believe the 4pm opening is going away after this weekend.

100% agree. It's their first week, was just trying to pass along some info.
