I have noticed as of late that a number of my favorite brewers have changed their labels for something less....aesthetic. Two Brothers instantly comes to mind, and even some old go to brews have lost that classic look such as Stegmaier and the once cool porter label. Would you consider it for cost benefit or a rebranding to get new customers?

Not being adverse to change it sometimes seems the new labels are...well....boring.

Today's labels are a bit more extravagant but it is all due to marketing. They need to sell their beer to male money to make more beer.

New doesn't always equal better. Brewers are trying to step up their game to remain in the conversation and improve their shelf presence. Things will just get more desperate. It generally doesn't bother me, but I really hope that a brewery like Anchor doesn't suddenly decide that their look is anachronistic.

Some are incredibly ornate such as Stillwater or the incredibly cool Stone beers, then you have ones such as Columbus Brewing Company that have tossed out everything to have more simple themes, or the new North Winds label for one of my favorite imperial stouts.

personally i liked the old two brothers labels, new ones just look too cluttered and lost their rusticity

I guess you would vote 'No' for the proposed new mascot who resembles a zombie death-metal Cap'n Crunch?

I think the new two brothers labels are dull and bland - the old ones used to catch my eye much more.
I had to ask someone at the store looking for Northwind this year and looking at old vs new side by side I prefer the old ones by miles

I am curious if Three Floyd's just got a new idea for a label. Cap'n Death Crunch! Love it!

Three Floyd's have some pretty radical labels......Backmasking is still my fav.

They are actually re-doing some of their labels at the moment too - new Alpha King on a thread earlier this week.

    I thought Green Flash's re-design sucked.

Sometimes simpler labels, while not as aesthetically cool, attract attention more than a more elaborate label. For example, Stillwater has very neat labels, but walking by a beer cooler I will probably see the Pliny the Elder before I see the Stillwater. If I didn't know either beer, I would probably grab the Pliny first.

Changing a label also attracts attention and may increase sales. I suspect that many people try as many different beers as they can find and a label change might induce people to go back to a beer that they haven't had in a while.

New labels for Ballast Point are awesome, love the branding.
