Good morning late-witer wit bier well wishers, Mid-MI received a dusting of snow yesterday/last night and we're partly cloudy now with a forecasted high around 30F. Can't complain at all because this winter has been very, very mild. I've even bought a few wits and hefes because lately my body feels that it's spring. Had a chance to stop in to HopCat yesterday and sip on a Sublimely Self Righteous Black IPA with one of their tasty rosemary & bacon chicken salad wraps and some veggie chili. A Red's Rye was in order, even though it was consumed 1/2 mile away from its source. Still, HopCat's brews are ALWAYS fresh. My last red line is ON my MacBook battery icon, so I gotta jet. Plug back into tis thread AFTER you've tried your new beer/s today and let us know all about them with some colorful commentary, possibly the link to its formal review AND MAYBE a pic of said new beer/s. Sorry mattcrill, but I do hope to be celebrating about 6pm EST tonight Good day and good drinkin'. In the undying spirit of craft beer, malty
!!!New Russian Imperial Stout*** G'day Malty, and to the rest of the NBS-ites! It's a cold morning here in Casper but it's sunny and the predicted high is ~50F. With all of the weird weather we've been having, this will be a pleasant change. My new beer is Kabert from De Struise and here is my review: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/15237/77016/?ba=Bitterbill And a photo to go with it:
***New Winter Warmer!!! I can't review it because the brewery is closed but it's a surprisingly delightful looking beer for being from 1993. Small white head of foam, loads of Sherry notes in the smell. The taste is full of caramel malt and tastes remarkably like an above the shelf Port. There's even a slight tingle from the light carbonation. Wow, it's left some lacing when I took my last sip. There may be a hint of dark fruit but I'm not totally sure on that. Here's the pic:
American Double/Imperial IPA Finally stopped by the Steel Toe brewery yesterday. Among other things, I picked up this beauty. My god do they brew awesome beers. It has been a few years since the local beer scene has seen a brewery open that is this impressive. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26565/78808/?ba=morimech
a http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24903/70194/?ba=gatornation cool sunny day in Minneapolis +++++new witbeir++++ Love this brewery
< American Amber / Red Ae > Short's Aorta Double Red Ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9629/39059/?ba=malty Let's face it, this style of ale is usually a yawn. Short's don't go out like that - homie. Very satisfying and different. Yes, lots of hops. The malts and carbonation of this beer really make it a stand-out in a somewhat so-so style category. I will be seeking out more of this as I stupidly and stingily bought only a singe BTW, it's NBS (week 367) - sorry for the miscount.
>>>> New Old Ale Sunday<<<< Good afternoon fellow New Beer Drinkers. This morning StL arose to sunny skies and temps in the high 20s but quickly rising to the low 40s and getting a bit overcast. I mostly worked around the house today cleaning and working on the yard a bit to prep for the spring. I finally was able to kick back and watch some NBA basketball and enojy a Founders Better Half while waiting fro my better half to come back from a weekend long bachlorette party in Nash-Vegas. photo-19 by JoEBoBpr, on Flickr The brew is good. Very sweet but not too much and the maple syrup notes are excellent. More notes here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199/77260/?ba=JoEBoBpr Hope you all have a good afternoon and nice beginning to the week. Salud!
New Double IPA Sunday (week 367) Beautiful day on the ridge in Mid Hud NY, perfect to do a bunch of recycling, composting, and beer enjoying. A bit of snow on the ground, never guess the 50 degrees we are enjoying today has been the norm this winter so far. Drinking the last of a 4 pack of thin 12 oz. cans of a pretty decent and very full flavored beer http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10607/77299/?ba=cavedave Peace, love, and good drinking to all. Cheers!
New Rye IPA Sunday It's a beautiful day here in Durham, NC. High 50s and mostly sunny. After helping friends brew a keystone light clone, I decided to visit my favorite local brewery, Fullsteam. So i order their one hop rye IPA. NC rue and Amarillo hops. Very spicy, the rye is at the forefront, and I liked it. The hops were more buttering.
Beautiful day in JAX, FL. Cool but pleasant, especially compared to last weeks mid-80s! Got a pork shoulder in the smoker and a Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA in my glass. Not the most exciting NBS beer, but it's all I've got other than homebrew. Cheers! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/57252/?ba=CASK1
New American Stout Sundae Greetings NBSers! A cloudy, but unpleasant, day here in the Fourth Corner with temps up around 50. We've had a fairly mild winter, even by our mild winter standards, and the days are noticeably longer and the Mariners are losing spring training games. One of our regional breweries, Big Al, does a series of brews called Local Hero. The series brings in a homebrewer to make one of their brews on the Big Al system and gets it out to Big Al's accounts. The very first Local Hero, Kevin Davey, went on to become the head brewer at Chuckanut Brewery and has recently moved to a brewers position with Firestone Walker. Sorry that I don't have more info on the latest Local Hero, but his Salish Sea Stout was pretty tasty: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18081/79066 . Um, don't know why that came out so large, but I can't seem to reduce it. Sorry. Cheers all!
>>> American Pale Ale <<< A spring seasonal from New Belgium called Dig. It's really a very good pale ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/77480 Too bad it might not be around for the summer. It would be great on a hot afternoon. Maybe I'll grab a couple of sixers and stash them away for July? Unseasonably warm here in the Columbia Basin, with temps near 60 today. Snow last Tuesday might have been winter's last gasp. Let's hope. Happy Trails!
New Belgian Dark Ale Sundae A new brew from a new Washington brewery, Hilliards: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26918/79069 . I'm hoping the brewery puts this ESB with Saison yeast into it's regular line-up. I like it a lot. Their Saison, which comes in 16oz cans, is pretty tasty as well.
A subsequent visit to Bull City Burger & Brewery produced an Elk Burger, and a Pratt Pilsner. Soapy and only slightly bitter. Im still waiting for the Cognac barrel-aged Olden Horney British Barleywine!
New Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout Sunday Late on this NBS, but better late than never. Surprised this is still on at Town Hall. Cheers! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1177/20578/?ba=psychotia
A sad new beer sunday here in Orono, MN. Tried out a '10 Samichlaus Helles - all kinds of disappointing.
