Good morning St. Patty's Day sloths & sluggards,

Is that how you're feeling right now? I'm hoping the day gets brighter for you, I really do. Mid-MI is still riding a friggin' hot streak - literally feels HOT. For the past several days we've hit the high 70s, and I think we might have even topped 80F last week. Wayyyy too soon for this crap. I'll take it when I can get it, but this has to be too good to be true. Mother Nature is bound to throw us a curve ball low and inside here shortly, I'm affraid.

Speaking of Short(ly)s, the ONLY beer I had yesterday was a mug of Short's Uncle Steve's Irish Stout at my local (Soup Spoon Cafe) with my brunch. After that, I just kept it close to home, hangin' out and putzing around. Guess I needed an OFF day, as we all do from time to time. Very ironic mine was during the most iconic drinking day of the year. Maybe it's the badass skateboard punk rebel in me? On Thursday though, that was a whole other story. Not that I over did it or anything, but I did celebrate with my boys after buying my first Harley. I still have to say that Dark Horse Crooked Tree & Short's Huma Lupa IPAs are the perfect warm weather beer - when they're fresh on tap. Too bad the Stone IPA around my parts doesn't sell that briskly, cuz it's always limp by the time I get to it. No jokes, pervs.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, KBS hit the shelves this week. I was able to get some and I'm happy. I don't participate in the release parties and all that jazz, as I feel it strongly influences most of the hype that prevents a bunch of us from even getting mere crumbs off the table. Anyone who places these types of beers on Ebay should be treated to a dark back parking lot meeting, know what I'm saying? Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.

Please log back on to this thread AFTER you've tried your new beer/s today and let us know all about them. How? Please give us some colorful commentary on your new beer's attributes and characteristics, along with (not mandatory, but very cool if you can) the clickable link to its formal review. Now that we have this fancy posting capability, please feel free to post pics of your new beer/s too. Good day and good drinkin' and GO SPARTANS!!!

In the undying spirit of craft beer,

    malty

    ***New Russian Imperial Stout!!!

G'day Malty and to the rest of the NBS-ites!

Unseasonably warm today, I guess. The last 2 days were more of a hint that Spring is here but I'll take today over what I'm sure is to come in the near future.

I opened one of my 2 bottles of this today:

    **NEW ROBUST PORTER SUNDAY**

Greetings malty and fellow NBS brethern!

Warm and seasonable here in Central OH.

Brewed an American IPA today and had the chance to sample this winner from Barley's:

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1513/79516

Seems to be a very "Americanized" robust porter. Still, enough "porter" character to not jump over into Black IPA territory. Regardless, it's good.

    Have a great NBS everyone!!

    ***New Oatmeal Stout Sunday***

I had my first beer from Elysian today, the Dragon's Tooth Oatmeal Stout. It was good, but fairly boring.

    Here is my review.

Celebrated my birthday, which is tomorrow, all weekend by opening fabulous brews left and right. Throw in the absolutely gorgeous weather we are having here in Minnesota and I may have to say that this weekend will be one I will always remember. I opened so many wonderful beers... Hightlights include Surly darkness 2010, bam Biere 2010, fingers bourbon barrel oatmeal stout, founders Kbs, and now for my new beer Sunday contribution...

    Zombie dust.

Truly an epic pale ale. I thought I might be let down considering the hype surrounding this one, but it delivered. Don't let my love for this incredible blend of citrusy piney hops and sweet malty nectar drive the hype up any more... I just now know that this is the best pale ale, if not the best beer, I have ever had.

    Cheers!

    *** NEW AMERICAN PORTER***
41 degrees and partly sunny in the city that's currently mourning their 'zags. Didn't partake in the festivities yesterday as I'm recovering from a recent car accident and decided that discretion is still the better part of valor!

Had myself a Snake Bite Porter from Silver Moon:

Quite a tasty porter. If it were cheaper and more available locally, I'd probably never drink Black Butte again.

Greetings, NBSers. Haven't been here in a while but broke this one out while watching the tournament today. Local brewer doing a great job with some great beers.

    ***New Imperial Red Sunday***

Hello all. Lagunitas Imperial Red was the new beer of choice after grilling some "Irish sausages" that were basically corned beef in sausage form. Both the beer and the sausage were underwhelming.

Like the OP said, it was a beautiful day here in MI. Also, go Spartans!

    Cheers.

    Happy NBS to all...

Beautiful spring day here on Long Island. My son and his girlfriend were here for St. Patty's weekend and left after lunch. The wife and I did the grocery shopping after they left and then came home and made dinner. After helping the wife clean up I sat down to enjoy this beer from Southern Tier...

I've tried an Epic Brewing Utah Saison, This is the first beer I've had from Epic. It's very unique for me, very herbal. I'm digging it! [IMG]

    ****new old ale****

Long time no post on NBS. While it took a while for me to reacquaint myself with the site, I've been keeping up with the new MI brews. I have a backlog of NBS tastings that need to get input.

    Back to the present...

What an awesome weekend in West MI. Temps hitting the 80s have the tulips blooming already.

My Broncos beat out the wolverines for the CCHA title while a MAC squad knocked um out of nc$$ b-ball. Can't really script a better sports weekend.

But it does get better...while I scored a KBS without waiting in line or stalking a storefront at opening, I already had this gem from Founders waiting to get cracked. It didn't disappoint.

    >>>>>>>>> New Spring Lager Sunday <<<<<<<<<<<

Alpine Spring from SA. It's a flavorful light and drinkable spring brew. The lager flavors are definitely there. A little unusual for the season.

Unsettled here in the Washington Columbia Basin. Clouds, wind, sun, calm pretty much the whole spring pallate of weather.

    Happy Trails!

    ***********New DIPA Sunday*************

It's way too friggin' hot here in the NW 'Burbs of Chi-Town, no matter what anyone else from 'round here may tell you. I'm with you, Malty: Something tells me Nature is just biding her time for some sort of sinister strike...

At the same time, it's way the hell too cold in my heart, as my Boilers fell just short of miraculously upending Bill Self's Jayhawks. Too sad...

A bright note, though, came through in the form of Ninja Vs. Unicorn from the finally-brewing-and-bottling Pipeworks boys. I briefly met the guys when I got the bottle, and after sampling their product I look forward to more from them down the line. My thoughts: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28178/77708/?ba=TMoney2591.

First time posting in this thread series. Woot woot. First KBS. I could definitely taste the bourbon in this. Had a dark chocolate backbone and a slight coffee finish. The beer gave me everything I expected from a barrel aged stout, but I wasn't blown away by it. Nevertheless, it's an A+ beer, just not worth the hype. Next up, 75 minute IPA. This beer really suprised me. It kind of reminds me of a Belgian IPA. It just has that dryness to me. Anyways, I gotta agree with the label when it says "There are many situations when 75 is juuuust riiight". Solid beer.
