Greetings Pied Pipers of Pilsners and Pale Ales!

Malty is off to a volleyball tournament and doing the "fam" thing today so buckle up for safety as I'll be your co-pilot and moderating the New Beer Sunday adventures today...

Weather here in Central OH is cloudy and cool and even though it's seasonal it's quite the departure from the sunny skies and 70 degree weather we've been having lately. Perfect to make sure I polish off all the porters, stouts, and other "winter" beers that are making a final push for the season.

Had a chance to pick up some of the ever-elusive "Hoptimum" that was in the local bottle shop this week. I know it's had some mixed reviews but I have a soft spot in my heart for Sierra Nevada so we'll see what the day brings.

Whatever is NEW and crossing your lips this fine day, this is the place to tell us about it. PLEASE share your musings, banter, and general enlightenment about your new beer with a great description, a linked review, or share a picture so all can marvel at your wares. A friendly reminder to do this AFTER you have consumed said beer. This is not the place for veiled sports references or what you're going to drink after you clean the kitty litter.

Hope you all have a fantastic NBS. I'll be checking back in after my son's flag football game so y'all behave 'til I get back.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Good day lords of the lambics!

Its actually like a spring day here in Central NC. chilly and 50 with lingering rain. Feels refreshing and nice. Since its so Midwest/Great Lakes weather outside, I found a Midwest coffee stout in the closet. Hinterland Luna Coffee Stout.

Quickly: upfront bitterness from the coffee and chocolate.

Been wanting to find a single of this one to try, but doesn't seem to have reached the Colorado market yet.

Was in the city yesterday, and picked up this little gem. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24300/71827/?ba=EgadBananas

Pricey, along the lines of Mikkeller, naturally, but it was delicious. Since I only had a single brew last night, I thought it would be appropriate to crack this once I woke up this morning, given the coffee aspect of this brew. Good call! Reminds me of Victory at Sea....again though, I wish it was priced like V@S!

    Cheers!

I hope you like it when it does show up. A delicious Wit/IPA "marriage" imho.

New Wild Ale / Belgian Pale Sunday (week 374)

Greetings from atop the ridge in chilly, rainy Mid Hud Val NY. Went to bottle our club's hefe today, found no one else had showed up!!! Also found that a late start to ferment had blown out the airlock all over the bucket and onto the fermenting room floor! Didn't bottle myself, but took a reading and cleaned up, Jerry Pantano, owner and sponsor, and I drank the flask and mmm mmm good, should be the NBS entry today ---- but we will stay with this other fantastic, but, what the hell style is this beer?! Finishing, and loving every one of these last sips of this beer I highly recommend and which I am leaning to wild ale. Cheers to all my fellow BA's.

I don't generally drink before noon (even on a day off), but since my chores are done and the weather is gorgeous here in Portland I decided to crack a De Dochter van de Korenaar Belle-Fleur IPA

I also try to avoid buying "American style" IPAs from Europe because they're usually no better than what I can get locally and cost twice as much, but I'm glad I broke my rule with this one. It's bright and citrusy on the nose, has some light mid-palate malt sweetness, and a long, dry, spicy finish. Seriously, I still feel like I'm chewing on a hop cone, and it's been 5 minutes since my last sip. I probably won't buy it again at $10/22oz, but I certainly don't feel as disappointed as I often do with a lot of the Danish IPAs that cost $5-7/12oz.

    New Double IPA Sunday

As promised, I reviewed Hoptimum. I can see why it wouldn't be everyone's favorite. But for the price, flavor, and for what it is, I'll take it. It definitely blurs the line between Double IPA and American Barleywine but that's half the fun anyway. I'm a sucker for SN beers so I readily admit my bias.

I'm having a beer I've never had before...

Aaaaah! There's nothing like a good coffee stout. I thought this one would be much more bitter than it is. It's super creamy and easy to drink.

    New Session IPA

Clear skies and cooler temps in West Michigan, making for a good day to get the yard work done.

Short's new session IPA. Not a huge fan of the style. This falls in line with a lot of the other beers in this category. While I'm all for lower ABV, something about hoppier styles and low alcohol just doesn't mix.

New Amer. IIPA Sunday (week 374)

Greetings from the presently wet not white ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Hope you aren't getting the frozen variety either, if you are, def. have another beer. This latest glass fill was pretty dang good, but many better ones easy to find. How blessed are we?

I would be more excited if Boulevard came out with this instead of Deschutes after the collaboration last year.
