Good morning Olympiads of Ale and Lager, I hope this message finds you anticipating another fine NBS. The weather broke a little here in Central OH this week and we had a chance to enjoy some rain and open up the windows a bit. Had some "non-beer geek" neighbors over for dinner last night and picked up the SA Summer Sampler pack. Not a bad mix. Will probably give the Kolsch and the Belgian Session a run today and see what I can come up with. My hops are falling off the bines but my MBA program may keep me from harvesting today. We'll have to see. Speaking of today's plans...DRINK a NEW beer and TELL us about it! We want to hear all the exploits and on-going's in your 'hood. Please link your review, give us a great description, and if necessary a pic to help us share the virtual moment with you. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. I hope you all have a great day and I'm looking forward to reading your reviews. Peace, love, and malty-ness, Matt
New Wit Sunday Greetings NBSer's, Pretty darn muggy here in SCMN. Sweating like a pig with very inactive, putsy stuff being done around the house - mostly garage and yard. More of an indoor day than I had anticipated. What a better time than now for a wit from another rather obscure, small semi-local brewery. This one is from the Potosi brewery in the south western corner of WI next to IA. A very small town with a nice little breweriana museum. One of the oddest wits I have ever had, but overall a pleasing beer. For example a nearly brilliantly clear wit. Nonetheless, "worth a try" and even a little better. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17157/62596/?ba=garymuchow Hope your part of the world is less dang humid than here. Best to all.
Sam Adams Belgian Session: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/77233/?ba=mattcrill Seems the masses have been rough on it. All things considered, I thought it was pretty good.
New Imp. Russian Stout Sunday (week 387) Hey all, hope you had less chores than me today, oh well at least it wasn't over 190 out. I love to be anti intuitive so of course I needed to have a huge stout today, and it had nothing to do with fears this one was quickly going to the happy hunting grounds. Nice hb hoppy American Pale is next. Hope you have a great American beer in your hand right now! Cheers! New Beer Sunday
New (home brewed) Oak aged Imperial IPA Sunday! Now that This beauty has been in the bottle for a couple of weeks, I thought it best to do some carbonation 'testing'. Pours a beautiful deep copper, moderate lacing head. Aromatic of cascade and Citra hops, with great oak tones that are tugging at the back of the hops for dominance. Taste is impressively balanced with a rich malt base and a piney, slighty citrusy hop favor along side a vanilla note from the oak. This is the second attempt at this recipe and I think It may be time to finalize this beauty.
AMERICAN DOUBLE / IMPERIAL IPA Happy NBS to all... Beautiful day here on Long Island, mid 80's with low humidity. I went on a beer run today and picked up a nice haul which included a growler of this delicious beer... Kelso Industrial Pale Ale
***New Belgian IPA Sunday*** Greetings NBS, A gorgeous day here in Southetn, CT with high sunny skies and mild summer temps. Went for a long hike with the dog this morning and then finished up the chores. I just finished enjoying this new beer with some lobster rolls for dinner. Great combo and great beer. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1339/26159/?ba=CHADMC3
I have a bottle of this in waiting and have heard great things about it. I love their Dark Force and can't wait to try this as well. Great NBS. (in reference to Odins Tipple).
Amber/Red Lager Good day NBS. My addition is the latest beer from August Schell. One of the most bitter lagers I have had of late but does not really deliver what the name describes. Emerald Rye: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/417/83429/?ba=morimech
It's a suprisingly comfortable late June Sunday here in Southern Illinois. The crickets are really going now and I've just broken into another new Jolly Pumpkin (to me!) It's the second Jolly Pumpkin brew I've had and for some reason they've both been from 2010 I love wild beers and just the flavors that Brett, lacto and pedio produce so I absolutely love this beer. I'm hoping that there will be more on the shelves when I head back! I decided to give her a formal review anyway too: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9897/18975/?ba=mtlasley
I got a growler fill of this one (MCZA ISA) at the brewpub in Kennewick after a round of golf on Friday. It's a real average pale ale, but I did stock up on some of the other Ice Harbor brews. Read the review to find out what MCZA ISA means. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/909/83485 I checked the fermentation on my latest batch of home brew. This is batch #3 for me, and like a true IT guy I did start with batch zero (which was forgettable). This one is a clove spiced wheat ale, brewed with around 8 ounces of honey per gallon. The sugar content is down to almost nothing, so I guess it's bottling time. I'm using the same honey as a priming sugar in the bottles. Drinkable and refreshing by mid-August I hope. Seasonal here in the Columbia Basin. Sunny with temps in the upper 80's to low 90's. I have been on vacation for the last 10 days, camping, golfing, hanging out with the wife. But it all comes to a crashing halt tomorrow morning. Back to work. I have already looked at my inbox. 176 unread emails. Monday is going to suck.
**New Double IPA Sunday** I poured myself this: Id had very small tastes (no more than 2 oz), so I just pulled the trigger. I know I reviewed it (and Im bad for doing so), but this is the first time Ive sat down with an entire bottle. Its aged a bit, letting the sweet malt to come out. Thers a late resinous bitterness that comes out that I dont like. I was hoping it would finish as smooth as the initial tastes led me to believe. Oh well, fresh the tastes were rough to finish, but this one went down easy.
New American Imperial Stout Sunday! I had big expectations, and it blew them all out of the water. WOW. The review: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199/47658/?ba=yamar68
Everything I drank today was new to me! daysinthewake came over and we drank: 1809 Berliner Weiss Logsdon Farms Seizon Neilsborium Upland Gilgamesh. Here's reviews for the last two. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1170/78143/?ba=litheum94 http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17981/67483/?ba=litheum94 Cheers!
<----____New American Wild Ale___-----> Spent all morning at Ikea with the wife and kids... Then all afternoon putting stuff together an hanging curtains... I deserve a beer. I was so happy to see the NBS thread!!! I needed this guys! Cracked the Lost Abbey New Belgium collaboration, simply named "Brett Beer." It's isn't bad-- but it sure didn't blow me away. Perhaps I had expectations that were just too damn high because the breweries involved here, but maybe the Lost Abby bottle will be better! Here's my review: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/81733 Cheers!
86 degrees and sunny in the Inland Northwest. Had myself a Dutch "Espresso-Stout" at lunchtime: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/11890/55742/?ba=woemad It was okay, nothing earthshattering.
