Good morning students of style! This thread never takes a summer break and our weekly assignments are clearly fun to complete. Looking forward to seeing your beers and how you grade them on this fine new Sunday. O-fests and pumpkin beers are in full swing here in Central OH. I don't get too excited about them but we've had some cooler temps and lower humidity here this week and I must admit, I'm getting a hankering for something on the malty end of the spectrum. Please take a moment to enjoy a refreshing new beer on this fine day and SHARE with us! Please provide your linked review, a detailed description, and a pic if you are so inclined. The syllabus for this class is fun and easy. Whatever is happening in your world today I hope you have time to sip a new one and share it on this thread. Thanks for always keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Peace, love, and malty-ness, Matt
American Pale Lager We have been having some beautiful weather in MN for the last couple of weeks. Cool temps with periodic rain. Terrific after the horror of July. Have a couple new beers today and hopefully I deliver unlike the last NBS. This is another Beer For Wildlife brew that I ignored because I wrongly thought it was just a macro lager for a good cause. Shame on me. I give you Walleye Chop: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23016/60134/?ba=morimech
New Sunday APA Greetings NBS contributors, Glorious day in SCMN. Sunny, warm with a cool enough nip and lately we've had wonderful evenings. Finishing up fair week in my county, which is a total community event. I judged enough beer to grow fatigued - but I tend to recover quickly, hence my review today. Staying with my recent NBS trend of local or semi-local. This is a small brewery out of central WI - Plover, to be exact and thus in the universe of Stevens Point Brewery. Yet a good central WI small city should have enough beer engagement to keep two breweries happy and healthy. They more balance each other out than have direct competition, as far as I can tell. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16386/43091/?ba=garymuchow Very nice aroma, but kinda' messy in flavor. Worth a shot. Best to all this week, all you NBSer's.
American Pale Ale Seems MN is carrying the weight of NBS so far. My second new beer today is something that just showed up on shelves and it came in cans. I will buy it as there is no fear of freshness. I enjoyed it much, much more than just about all other reviewers. It works for me. Hey all, Today I'm trying a few I've never had. Mad Belgian's Belgian Pale, Danish Red from Figueroa Mountain, Surfs Mondo Cream Ale. And Hoppy Poppy from Figueroa. I'm excited to try a cream ale, never had one before.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1513/83472/?ba=mattcrill Not an American Amber but darn enjoyable. Loved it on tap at the Smokehouse on Friday and got me a growler to enjoy today. Cheers and Happy NBS all!
New Sunday American Pale Ale This one really surprised me. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/8/80302/?ba=Wasatch Cheers!
New Schwarzbier Sundae Greetings fellow NBSers! After an up-and-down week, I got to see Felix Hernandez throw a perfect game in person and then was very sick for the following three days, I'm being brave enough to try a couple pints. A local bar had a Ninkasi tap takeover a couple nights ago, 12 Ninkasi brews and an Iron Maiden cover band to celebrate the release of Maiden the Shade, there's still a few brews on tap that are new to me and I'll try to add a couple, If my tummy holds up. The first one is a tasty dark lager that is listed as retired here on BA, but clearly is not: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14400/34720 . Hopefully I'll be back in a bit, if not cheers and happy NBS all!
Greetings, fellow NBSers, Sunny, 92 degrees and threatening to reach a high of 97 here in the city built around the falls. Yesterday I paid a first visit to Selkirk Abbey, a Belgian-style brewery in nearby Post Falls, Idaho. I was impressed but did not linger, as the lunch at a local Indian restaurant was not sitting well with the mid-90s heat. In fact I managed to leave behind a pint glass I had purchased in my haste to return to my home plumbing! Feeling much better today, especially after watching the 'hawks last night. Yeah, it was pre-season but I'm a football junkie living in the sports hell that is the PNW, so I take whatever wins I get. Wanting a beer that would go well with today's heat, I tried a "Pilz" from Southern Tier: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/59327/?ba=woemad Good without being spectacular, and a tasty mid-August session choice.
New Golden Ale Sundae And another brew that rarely leaves Eugene: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14400/84533
Good Evening BA's. Having my first Wookey Jack today Pretty damn impressed with this one. A dark brown body with a foamy tan head. Smells of pine and citrus dominate the nose with notes of roasted malts and dark fruits. Taste is pretty spot on with the smell but not so much citrus or fruit as I could sense in the aroma. Nice bite of hops & dark malts, very well balanced. The body is a lot lighter than I was imagining and mouthfeel is actually almost creamy. Goes down pretty smooth and leaves a great earthy after taste. Overall I am real happy with this one. Firestone is quickly becoming one of my favorite brewery's out there.
New Cream Ale Sundae I'm going to bend the rules of NBS just a wee bit. I had a pint of this beer a couple years ago at a Brewers Night, but never reviewed it (most likely to the volume of beers consumed that evening). Back then, it was a one-off that we didn't think would be brewed again. But, now I see by the reviews that it's even been bottled at least once. A nice take on the style: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14400/60400
New Saison Sunday (week 391) Greeting NBS'ers gorgeous day to cap a weekend that were my first days off in 12 days, perhaps last for that length as well. Guess I'll be too busy to get into trouble? Just got back to the house here in Mid Hud Val and what better to do than to open a Great American Beer. Hope you have the same in your hand right now! Cheers Seventeen
New English Strong Ale Pretty Things Once Upon a Time on November 22nd, 1838 http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18371/79454/?ba=philbe311 Good day all... One week and counting until vacation... Unwinding after a long weekend (that included home brewing my pumpkin ale) with this interesting and historic offering... As a brewery, I really dig with Pretty Things try to accomplish (not to mention that Jack D'or is a world class saison in my estimation)... Cheers...
>>>>>> New American IPA <<<<<< Whitewater IPA from Samuel Adams. For a blend of a White Ale and an IPA with some apricot flavor mixed in, it's better than I thought it would be. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/76800 A pretty good selection for a day like today. Dog days of summer with temps in the mid to upper 90's. I love summer, but I'm starting to think about fall. Happy Trails.
It's been a very temperate weekend in center city Philly this weekend as my girlfriend and I prepare to move in a couple weeks. After a couple days of packing, cleaning and chores I decided to relax with a BA Naked Evil batch 1, which I'm finishing up right now. Really delicious, although I doubt I could justify the price tag for it. Review here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14879/72827/?ba=xnicknj
