Greetings swashbucklers of Storm King, specialists of Storm Brewing, and Sandy Blonde savorers. I hope this message finds you doing well and if you are in the path of "Frankenstorm" I pray that you have plenty of good craft beer and that you stay safe over the next few days.

The only storm to hit Central Ohio this week is Oskar Blues arriving on local shelves! I've already picked up a 4-pack of Ten Fidy and it's as good as I remembered it. Wonderful chocolate and anise aroma/flavor with enough hop punch to keep the tongue intrigued and ready for the next pull.

Whatever is new to your area today is the day to sample it and this is the thread to talk about it! Pull up a stool, share your musings about your new beer (a good description or a linked review), and if you care to share a pic then so much the better!

I'm sure I'll be ready for something after we get done with my son's flag football game this afternoon. Cloudy skies and mid-40's are on the docket for Central OH today so I'm going to need something to warm up with after sitting outside for 2 hours.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. I hope something new and fantastic ends up in your pint glass today.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

I hope this Sunday finds everyone well. Stay safe east coasters. NBS 400 I hinted that I was on my way to a brewery. I did indeed stop at Toppling Goliath Brewery in Decorah, IA on my way to the Quad Cities. I sampled their pale ales and was really impressed. They are getting a lot of buzz in the upper Midwest and I think it is well deserved. My favorite was Golden Nugget IPA but all were well crafted and interesting. Distribution is upcoming to a few neighboring states. Eagerly waiting to drink more of their beer.

On the other hand I picked up my first NBS beer of the day on my travels this last week and it turns out to be very mediocre. Empyrean Watchman IPA:

Loved it. Reminded me of Stone's Bastard ales and Speakeasy's Betrayal (an "Imperial red ale"). Chewy, flavorful, and hearty.

Had my second glass with some pizza... http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/sharing-your-pairing.35911/page-3#post-575813 (you might have to scroll to it)

Here I am sitting right in Sandy's path, direct hit territory here in Ocean County, NJ. Fortunately, I'm inland far enough not to have to evacuate...and there's plenty of beer, including a fresh growler of something new (for me), Terrapin Hop Karma. It's spot on for this type of day.

    Singapore ipa by Saugatuck Brewing.

It seems this is pretty new to my market, because I have never seen it until just recently. Figured I had to grab one for an NBS beer!

It's getting chilly here, so we are almost up for some serious stout weather! I might ease into it with a few brown ales or porters later, but for now I'm starting off my Sunday with this new ipa...
It was pretty cold this morning when I started a little demolition work in the laundry room, but upon finishing I discovered that my wife was going running with her brother and I had to stay in and watch the kids... That was allright by me!

All in all, this beer is about average-- they Stone glassware was a prophetic choice, as it seems this beer follows Stone's guidelines about when to use hops in the boil-- late! Very dry and very bitter. Disproportionately bitter when compared to the level of aromatic and flavoring hops... It isn't my prefered take on the style, but it isn't entirely without its charm.

    Happy NBS to all...

Bracing for Sandy here on Long Island.

I wish all those along the east coast and in the path of the storm well. Listen to advisories and take action.

After securing the perimeter of my home I relaxed and watched some football while enjoying these 3 beers...

#1 - American Blonde Ale - Kona Big Wave Golden Ale
    [IMG]
#2 - American IPA - Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA

#3 - American Amber / Red Ale - Peak Organic Fall Summit

Yesterday I scored a Kern River Brewing Just Outstanding IPA. I was really excited for this one, I had very high hopes so it could have easily let me down.

Poured fantastic with a white frothy head with some awesome smells wafting from the glass. I had to admire it for a second before diving in.

The lacing on the glass is pretty nice, feels a touch sticky on the tongue which is very pleasant.

Has a fantastic color when held to the light as well. I thoroughly am enjoying this one, the bottle says it all "large malt character, huge hop profile, floral aroma and citrus finish."

Hope everyone is having a fantastic sunday, Happy Halloween!

New American Amber/Red Ale (though I think it fits in with Irish Reds)

Another awesome fall weekend in West MI. Moderate temps made for great outdoor activities (a nice run, spectator sports, ect).

Picked up a growler of this Kalamzoo brewed beer after hitting the old college stomping grounds yesterday for a football game. Either I have a very different impression of this beer, or it's improved a lot since it was last reviewed 5 years ago.

Now, if the Tigers can make a historic comeback...

Maelstrom Blood Orange Ale. #8 in the 12 beers of the apocalypse series.
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/700/84649

    Good not great.

There have been some distribution problems with this 12 beers of the apocalypse series. I didn't get this one until late October, it would have been great on Labor Day weekend.

Keeping the faith for the next couple of days with our friends on the north east. Nasty storm, apparently not to be reckoned with, so stay safe.

Remember the apocalypse isn't until December. ;-)

    Happy Trails!

    Greetings, NBSers,
53 degrees and twilight now in Spokane. The weekend featured off-and-on drizzle, a little breeziness, and not much sun. It also featured my #1 ranked Eagles dropping a game they should have won yesterday, though the Dawgs came through for me in dramatic fashion last night. Now I'm trying to root for the Tigers, though I'm a little pissed about the 'hawks losing today in Detroit.

Tonight's beer is one I've wanted for a long time, and finally came across a few weeks ago in Seattle:

Great stuff! I love the sweet, fruity hop beginning coupled with the dry, bitter finish. A hop head's IPA!

    Greetings NBS Sandy Sanitizers,

Spent most of the day prepping for Sandra, she seems like a real. . . well, you know.

Now that the work is done, time for an NBS. I had this stashed away from a recent trip to Mass:

    Pizza place +brewery?

Why in god's name are there not more such places? In a college town, I'd think that would be like having a licensce to print money.

    Tigers are leading for once!
