Burning Oak Black Lager by Linden Street. On tap at Trappist, Oakland. Finally a Linden Street I really like! Very roasted, hint of malt, but it's tempered with a bitter roast. Nice med body. This is great for a lower alcohol dark beer. I'm just becoming familiar with black lagers. Digging them, so far!

I had a big day yesterday. Our local monthly music paper celebrated their 15th Birthday with shows all over town, all day long, for free. 70-ish bands, in about 20 venues, not all of which are actual venues. Antique stores, restaurants, art galleries and more all had free live music. In the afternoon I walked my nephew and we ended up at Kulshan Brewing where they had a really talented 20 year old who played a very good, and varied set. At night, I saw my folk singer friend Cara play at Boundary Bay brewery, saw a fire dancing belly-dancer at another bar, and ended up with a great 4 band set at the Green Frog. Thanks What's Up!

My first new today was a beer that's been hanging out at the back of the fridge since I bought it. In fact, there were no reviews when I bought the beer and now there are over 1,000. I didn't like it as much as most BA's do. I thought it was harsh and nearly undrinkable: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/86149/?ba=beertunes

    New Doppelbock Sunday

Greetings from Southern, CT. . . lots of action again on NBS, must be a good day. Today and the weekend in general was overcast, windy, and chilly here. Although there is finally some grass poking through the 3 week old snow so it was time to get out and get back to business around the house. Lots of chores and taking care of the family that was under the weather this weekend.

I decided this reward was in order:

If you're a style traditionalist, this coffee bock may not be for you, but it was pretty tasty.

    NEW DUNKELWEIZEN SUNDAY

My wife had a baby shower today so I needed to get out of the house. It was a grey, overcast day, but it was still a lovely drive thru south central Pennsylvania farm country to get to my favorite beer store. The Beatles were loud and the rolling farmland beautiful despite the grim sky. The drive home was even better, with an incredibly dramatic sunset breaking through the clouds.

I stocked up on what I've been craving the most lately, barleywines, saisons, and dark wheat beers. It was a great run and I thoroughly enjoyed spending more than I should. I cracked open a new to me dunkelweizen shortly after I got home.

New California Common / Steam Beer Sunday

Columbia Common from Widmer. I'm not much of a lager fan, but I do remember drinking Anchor Steam back in the 70's. Craft brewing was real big back then, but we knew there was something special about steam beer.

The Columbia Common is a nice light beer, and i was looking forward to something like this to help usher in the spring season, I'll probably have more of this before summer sets in.

Nice spring preview here in the Columbia Basin today. Sunny with temps in the mid 50's. Looking forward to more of the same in the days and weeks ahead.

I hearby and knowingly violate both the spirit and letter-of-law of NBS. I first tried this beer last week during Brewers Open House by having samples at the brewery. Then there was a keg on tap at one of my favorite locals Friday night, and I had 5. But, this beer is so good, and people need to hear about it, that I throw myself on the mercy of Malty and MattCrill. One taste of this beer and I'm certain I'll be given a NBS pardon: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18879/90772

For what is probably my last NBS entry for this week, a new ImpIPA by a brewery that really doesn't get enough BA love. If you're visiting Seattle, you owe it to yourself to check out Naked City: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18353/90774

    New Trappist Sunday!

I've been drinking mostly homebrew lately, and haven't contributed to NBS in awhile. My wife got me an excellent mixed sixer for my birthday last weekend, and today was a good day for my first Rochefort 8. Rare cold evening in JAX, FL. Sipping this by a fire in the fireplace. Perfect!

Was down in the Tri-Cities again, and on my way home I stopped at Kimo's/Rattlesnake Mountain Brewing and had a pint of their Winter Wee, which is not the product of someone peeing in the snow but is a halfway decent attempt at a Wee Heavy ale. Dark brown in color, slightly sweet and with a mixture of dark fruit and peat flavors. Not fantastic, but I'd drink it again, unlike most of their beers.
