Good morning dads of the Dubbels and Dunkles,

Happy Father's Day to everyone with offspring. And may those offspring be doing you proud today. Hopefully you've got a license to be a lazy bum and imbibe a bit more than usual. You've (we've) paid our dues, and gosh darn it, we deserve it. Mid-MI is trying to burn off this cloudy lid and is forecasted to become only partly cloudy and a high of 78F. I'll take that without any hesitation.

Short's newest bottled IPA, Dan's Pink Skirt, hit the shelves and tap lines recently, and it does not disappoint. 'Dan' (a veteran Michigan brewer, Dan Rogers) has been a friend, mentor and confidant of Joe Short for some time now. This IPA pays homage to Dan, (who is now the head brewer at Michigan's brand new Griffin Claw Brewing) and does so with pungent grace. Joe Short would probably be the first to tell you Dan Rogers is a craft brewing gem for the state of Michigan, and one hell of a guy at that. Very cool beer for an ultra cool dude.

I had the opportunity to visit a few newer breweries in the Grand Rapids area a couple weeks ago. Mitten Brewing was quite tasty. Their ESB really stood out. Rockford Brewing has a very clean and respectable IPA, and their vanilla porter was rich, but not heavy. Harmony Brewing really kept me guessing, as many of their offerings were vastly unique and clever. I very much enjoyed their barrel aged brews, and their greek pizza was killer. I hadn't been to Hideout Brewing in a while, and I was greeted back with some terrific ales and friendly hospitality. Oh, did I mention Grand Rapids won the 'Beer City, USA' honors for its 2nd year in a row?

Wherever this beautiful days leads you, I hope its to someplace cozy with plenty of fantastic people, scrumptious food and phenomenal beer. If you have a chance to try a new beer, and have the time to share your experience back here on this thread, then kudos to you. We'd really like to hear about your new beer's attributes and characteristics AFTER you've drunk it/them. If you'd like to add a pic and/or the link to its formal review, then I guess you'd be quite the stud for doing so. Thanks for your participation, thus making NBS fresh, fun and informative. Now go get ready to be honored and adorned, you badass daddies. Good day and good drinkin'.

In the undying spirit of craft beer,

    malty

    Greetings NBSer's,
Glorious sunshine this morning in SCMN. And this comes after an equally glorious evening last night of perfect temp, lower humidity and calm winds. Wow, so nice.
Happy Father's Day to all the father's out there. It's an important job with little public regard for it's value. Do your stuff humbly and with certainty and everything will be all right.
Clown Shoes is relatively new to these parts and I'm happy to have a chance to sample their wares. I went for Tramp Stamp as the style is towards the tops of my preferences. And while not fantastic, it didn't disappoint either.

    Best to all this week.

Happy Father's Day and may every sunday be a "new beer" day. I was fortunate enough to fight off some frat boys at my local bottle shop for the last bottle of Maine Beer's Lunch. It's worse than a white sale at Dillards over there sometimes. But I saw it like a gleam in my mind's eye and sped down the aisle knocking over anyone who would stand in my way. It was worth it and I only wish there had been two.

Yo Malty, and all BAs. My family gave me Warsteiner Dunkel yesterday as a Fathers Day gift. I've never tried it before. Poured into a stout glass. Beautiful dark color. Nice head retention. The taste is smooth, very good German dark beer flavors, lots of balance between the malt and hops. I am reminded of a good German bread. gawd I suck at reviewing.

Happy Dad's day where applicable and happy NBS all! Seasonably warm and breezy as I type from the front porch here in Amish (with a long "A") country PA. The lad is grexen (Dutch for fussing) quite a bit today. Thats okay we love him anyway.

I fixed us a late brunch featuring omletes made with Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Pretty damn tasty if I do say so myself. My beer of choice missed the mark though. It just didn't POP.

Went into the local grocery store to buy my dog some Frosty Paws and just happened to stroll by the beer selection, and noticed a 6 pack of Beard of Zeus by Shorts. I have been looking for this and Hopstache and thought I was not going to be able to find any. I am excited to try this tonight over some twice baked potatoes and some grilled chicken.

Greetings fellow NBSers! A sunny and warm day here in the Fourth Corner. A pretty non-eventful week for me. I'm a bit surprised to be joining you today, I was scheduled to pour for one of my local breweries at the biggest beer fest in the state today, but there was a mix-up in getting transportation and credentials, so here I am. For the first year, competition was held, and over 70 breweries entered, but that means about 100 didn't. Lets improve that next year WA brewers! My 3 locals showed well, yeah Bellingham beer! http://wabeerawards.com/?q=winners

My first new brew is an average example of it's style, but an outlandish price per ounce (almost $1, for a 5.5% Pilsener?) makes it an avoid brew, unless you're a ticker. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24300/88252/?ba=beertunes

Happy NBS Fathers Day and greetings to the NBS group!
It's a humid 80 degrees, partly sunny, and gentle breezes here at the Jersey Shore today....perfect new beer ( or any beer) weather.
It's been a great day for this dad, some golf, family time, a new beer, and a free few minutes to jump in here and get a review and post done.
Suprisingly, to me, this is new: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199/4073/?ba=NiceTaps. I'll be sure to keep it in the rotation.
    Enjoy the day, dads. Cheers!

    New Brew Weekend

    Happy Hops 'N Pop Day!

    ~~Redeemer, by Olde Hickory Brewery~~
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/7753/89548/?ba=kemoarps

First off, NBS AND happy fathers day to all those folks out there who have made a miniature version of yourself!
And if you (like myself) are devoid of meatsacks pieced together partially due to your genetic contributions, then just happy NBS!

For myself, this has been an interesting weekend. I attended my first ever beer festival this weekend (not once, not twice, but three times!), volunteering to help pour at the St. Louis Brewer's Heritage Festival. It was a thoroughly enjoyable introduction for myself to the festival scene. I mistakenly signed up to volunteer for two of the three sessions, then decided to pour for the third as well since I get pretty bad anxiety when in social situations, but can manage it when there's some structure and organization to the interaction (such as between someone working at a festival and an attendee, vs just milling around by myself in a large crowd of people I don't know).
As a volunteer we were allowed to sample the wares ourselves (so long as we didn't get carried away and were still able to perform our duties, etc), so I got to try everything I wanted to anyway, and even had someone ask me for my number (this marks only the second time in my life this has ever happened, so I was kind of taken aback and excited [she never called anyway, as expected; but I'm trying to force myself to focus on the positive aspects!]).
Friday evening and Saturday afternoon were nice, if hot (my innovation to combat the heat: put ice in my hat and let it melt down my scalp. so refreshing...), but saturday evening we ended up having to shut everything down an hour and a half early due to a thunderstorm that posed a great enough risk that the liability apparently was not worth it. The attendees were not pleased, but most left peacefully, if reluctantly, after grumbles and chanting. I did witness one guy getting arrested, though from what I saw, it appeared to mostly be an overly aggressive police officer looking for a confrontation from a mildly intoxicated patron who was slow to leave the comfort of the tent.
Today I realized that, as fun as the weekend had been to this point, it was not without consequence. I have four tests and a major paper due this coming week, and in attending the festival I had completely neglected all of them. Today, therefor, has been wall-to-wall rereading of class notes, rewatching the lectures (they record each days lecture: LIFESAVER), and looking over the study guide. While I DO wish I had begun my studying earlier, and spread it out over more time, rereading things I still feel like I have a pretty good handle on the material, so I'm not stressing as much as I might otherwise be. My larger concern is just getting the Health History paper finished. The exams, I can just rely on my knowledge and understanding of the subject matter, but for the paper I actually have to turn something in, so...
And with all that (and previous NBS contributions) I think you might actually know me better than most of my real world friends, ha. I'd apologize for taking up so much of y'all's time, but I'm trying to teach myself not to do that so much, so if you've made it this far; all I really have to say is: Cheers!

It's a beautiful day outside, but drawing all the curtains closed and turning the AC on, I can pretend it's not and don't feel bad about being cooped up inside all day studying
Oh, yeah. The beer. Well, on top of the thirty or so brews I sampled (and they were just small samples) at the festival, today's offering is another bottle I received from brentk56 (thanks Brent!) in trade shortly after I arrived in the midwest. Redeemer is Olde Hickory's big DIPA; a big hop bomb that has moved away from the pine and bread dough notes that dominated when I first cracked it onto the tropical citrus and honey that now take dominion.

I'm running out of words, and really should stop procrastinating and get back to studying, so on that note, I will leave you all. I hope your sunday has been an enjoyable one, whether you are celebrating he who made you, your children are celebrating you, you're celebrating a partner, or you are simply proceeding as any other weekend. Eat well, drink well, live well, and hope everyone's enjoying their weekend!

    New Double IPA Sunday

Well, I finally got over to Big Dog's Friday. Brought home 3 growlers and had a couple of brew's while I was there. This place definitely knows their IPAs and DIPAs for sure, put it this way Dave (Brewmaster) knows his shit. I've have just about every talked about IPA and or DIPA on this site and his is just as good if not better. This one is another AWESOME DIPA.

Happy Father's Day! I know I'm having a good one. My wife picked up soufflés for breakfast while I zoned out during my morning run. Then I was met with these tasty treats before heading out to the local minor league baseball game. Thanks go out to The Copper Vine for helping my better half put together this great gift. I know today isn't about the presents, but I'm not sending them back either.

Happy Father's Day all! I have one (adult) child at home this weekend, and the other breezed through last evening, long enough to take in the new Star Trek movie with the family.

Checking in with an outstanding IPA for this NBS. Descender IPA from an up and comer in the Bend, Oregon stable of breweries. I will definitely be having more of this as the summer wears on.

A nice day here in eastern Washington, sunny with a light breeze and temps in the mid 80's. I've been running some sprinklers, and taking in the final round of the US Open.

Again Happy Father's Day to all my fellow Dad's out there.

    Until next time, happy trails!
