Good morning senators of summer ales and congressmen of Kölsch. Here's hoping your Sunday is off to a good start. Weather in Central OH is HOT and very much summer-like. Seemed appropriate to enjoy a Little Sumpin' Sumpin' which was a nice pairing with all this humidity. That will most likely be making an appearance for me later today on this very special edition of NBS.

Please stay frosty and find something new for you to share with us today. Give us a good description of something that's tickled your palate on this weekly thread. Linked reviews and pics are always appreciated but please save the "what's in my fridge" stuff for other threads.

I love the recent posts that have had the "I stink at reviewing but here it goes..." qualification. That's what it's all about! Just take a stab at it and tell us about it. Nobody can tell you what you've experienced and the more you practice the better you'll feel about it.

Now get out there, sample something new, and share! Whether it's review #1 or #1000 we don't care! The only bad review is the one you don't share.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

    Peace, love, and maltyness,

    Matt

Ok here goes again! I love the conversation here and this week thanks to all of you I have tried some berliner wiess (festina peche) & I have bought the beer you see pictured.

I reviewed a new style in the White IPA with Heavy Seas Riptide and found it to be a real treat.

I tried another "combination" style with Dogfish Head Sixty One and found that to be a marvelous mix of wine grapes and a malt that was so well done it carried this beer to a successful combination.

But- my favorite beer this week is also one of my favorite and unheralded styles. The kolsch. I love a good kolsch and this one was fantastic.

Happy Sunday everyone and next time I'll try not to be too early for you!

    NEW CREAM ALE SUNDAY

Happy NBS everyone! After working over 26 hours over the last two days my three day weekend begins today. Sticky in Lancaster county all week long the forecast says. We'll make it an evening walk instead of an afternoon one, wimps that we are. This kind of weather calls for a lazy afternoon of making baby Chase coo and smile while he's awake and reading while he's asleep. I love being a dad.

I enjoyed my first can from Six Point several weeks ago so today I'm looking for some sweet action after lunch.

Hot AND humid in Southern WI today. Took my dogs and girls out for a nice walk down to the small lake/marsh and saw a dozen or so very large Pelicans. Enjoying the warm weather and hope to grill some burgers if the storms hold off tonight.

Another amazing Saison today from Funkwerks.

Pelicans? In Sconnie? I've never heard of pelicans being near fresh water before. Learn something every day. See, NBS is more than just beer.

    Hey, everybody...

    Background music, if you'd like:

Summer day on LI - almost 80, moderately humid, sunny - got the groceries out of the way early :sunglasses:.

Been loving Great Divide since they hit LI last year - known for their Yeti line, I was pleased to discover that their whole line of beer is top tier (IMHO, 'natch ). Every few weeks, I stumble across something else of theirs that has made its way here.
This week, Nomad, their Czech pilsener.
Perfect looking - bubbles stream up continously....
I've only had a few pils, and never a Czech. I've found the style to be quite enjoyable, and Nomad is the kind of beer to get you interested if you weren't before.
Delicious, crisp, with a rustic and wholesome grain and hop character.
I hated to see it go.

I was gonna rank it a lot higher initially - like, I really liked it, but I figured some of that might just be initial enthusiasm, so I toned it down. I'm also not an experienced pilsener-drinker, so my comparisons (within the style) are few.

Had my second bottle with some pepperoni pizza...

Alrighty, ladies and gentlemen, that'll do it for me here this week. Have a great day!

Greetings fellow NBSers, both to our newer participants and those that have been here a while! A gray, cloudy morning here in the Fourth Corner, but hopefully it'll clear off a bit later, as I'm going to see our local team, the Bellingham Bells: http://bellinghambells.com/home/ , take on the invaders from the North Country, the Evil Kelowna Falcons:wink:. We haven't had our usual Juneuary this year, it's been relatively warm and sunny, and I'm looking forward to summer actually starting on July 5th.

It looks like I've had everything on the board, except this, so this might be my only entry for today. It's from a brewery here in town that's just over a year old, and doing a consistently great job. Plus, it's the only brewery here on BA where I've got a blue checkmark next to every brew listed, a clean sweep! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28281/95621/?ba=beertunes .

I'm going to fudge the rules just a bit. Here's my review of a new brew I had earlier this week. I just wanted to give a shout-out to Aaron, who owns the bar where I usually have my NBS brews. He went to Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp earlier this year, and this was the result: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/95379/?ba=beertunes . Pretty tasty, if I do say so myself. Cheers everyone!

New Kolsch (American style) Ale New Beer Sunday!

Greetings and Happy Summer to the NBS group from a beautiful day here at the Jersey Shore! Upper 80s, abundant sunshine, gentle breezes, lots of new and old beers. A great day for backyarding by the pool. Slightly humid, but it's summer in Jersey, humidity is a given.
Today tops off another great week. Summer's here, my daughter graduated HS on Friday ( late in June thanks to Superstorm Sandy back in October. Her HS was closed for classes for over 2 weeks after the storm because it was converted to a shelter to house displaced residents whose homes were destroyed). What a ceremony, a great day! Now that kid is on a Caribbean Cruise for the entire week....at least I have good beer.
Speaking of good beer: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/743/59238/?ba=NiceTaps. I guess that makes me a "Congressman of Kolsch" , right Matt?!? That's it from here.
    Enjoy everyone, Cheers!!!

    Happy NBS to all...

Very nice day here on Long Island as Greywulfken has already mentioned.
I spent a good part of the day under the awning painting our outdoor furniture set.
My wife heated me up some Buffalo Wings for a late lunch and I washed it down with this fine brew from Southern Tier...

You can find them along the Columbia now around the Tri-Cities, as well. My old man was born and raised there, only living elsewhere for about a 13 year gap, and he swears they never used to be seen in those parts.

Lagunitas is mostly hits for me but I've had some misses. Still, this one is a hit and worthy of the hype. Perfect for a hot and humid Central OH day.

New Ridiculous Lithuanian "Triple Bock" Sunday
75 degrees and partly cloudy in the city that will be overrun with 3-on-3 basketball players next week. After a few cool, rainy days, I had to bust out some shorts as I did some housekeeping before beer, ahem, lunch time. Just started drinking a Black IPA from Big Al, but here's a review of a 12% "Triple Bock" brewed at a spelling-unfriendly location in Lithuania that I finished off after midnight. I know it's stretching the whole Sunday thing, but, oh, well: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23345/68348/?ba=woemad
It started out decently enough, but it's size and booziness became rather a chore.

    New DIPA Sunday
Review #2 for me today! Can you tell my Corporate Finance class is over???
This one is an oddity. As I stated in my review, I struggle with anyone that barrel ages IPA's or DIPA's because by definition that is an oxymoron given today's brewing standards (spare me the English history lesson please, I'm well aware of IPA's origin...evolving a style is a beautiful thing).
As long as you tell yourself "American Barleywine" every time you take a sip this one is a home run! This is a perfect example of a really good beer that is outside of it's declared style parameters.
    Cheers!

    New Michigan Helles Sunday

Beautiful Sunday in West MI. Temps well into the upper 80's and blue skies. Perfect to hit the pool after taking care of some home projects.

Too hot to run, so why don't I crack a can of new beer from the Mitten State?

Today's beer from Frankenmuth certainly pairs nicely with the weather.

    New APA Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

We are having a rather moist June in these here parts. Many farmers are getting killed between the very late spring and now very wet fields. A guy can clearly tell the land that's tiled vs not. More water yet this week and rather warm and humid weather. Summer is here and it is very green.
A warm weather style today, although the style is year around too. Just that hops seem to go well this time of year. One of the many newer breweries from the TC metro area. Better marketing than most with the funky artwork on the can. A solid version of style, with one slight distraction and works well with the heat.
    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29223/84343/?ba=garymuchow
    Best to all this week.
