WTF? Every time I switch windows on the iPad, I'm losing my post. Typing this for the 4th time?

Hotter than Hades in West MI. Temps clearing 90 with classic Michigan humidity.

After cleaning up from a family camping trip, it's time to relax in the A/C with a new brew. Today's out-of-state offering is another one via trade with eli323232. From The Duck-Rabbit, it's a hit in my book.

    Well, that was quick...

Not surprisingly, this got even better as it warmed:
Really mellow, smooth, and roasty, with lots of dark chocolate and espresso notes.

Enjoyed a fun but HOT day in DC today with my wife and daughter. Finished off with a mellow dinner at Pizzeria Paradiso (Dupont Circle) and enjoyed this nice IPA from DC Brau. I am a fan of all of their beers and this one was no exception.

    NEW AMERICAN-BREWED QUADRUPLE ALE
85° and sunny today as I listen to the M's on the radio in the largest city between Seattle and Minneapolis. Friday night I visited Iron Goat and had their Head Butt IPA and their new (to me, anyway) Tripel, which was very tasty. One of the owners was behind the bar, and let me have a taster's worth of their epic-good BBA Goatnik (now in VERY short supply). Yesterday I tried another barrel aged beer, this time a pale ale from Twelve String Brewing. I wasn't nearly as impressed - I'm just not sure barrel aging lends itself well to a lighter beer like a spring-seasonal pale ale.
On to today's beer - a quad from Selkirk Abbey called 10°. I had a brief taste of it at Selkirk Abbey's anniversary party a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't able to review it. Fortunately I picked up a 22oz bottle last Saturday and was able to give it thorough going-over:
I'd call it very good (especially for a brewery that's only been around for about a year), but not quite up to the level of the great Belgian-brewed quads.

    Hello all!
First NBS poster, long time reader.

Today I have lots of new beers on the line-up that recently became available at my favorite bottle shop.

    First up to bat was....

    • Breckenridge 471 Small Batch Double IPA: What a beer! I was very impressed by this offering as I have tried there normal line up and rarely have been impressed. It was very smooth for the abv, had a nice bitterness that didn't overwhelm and a pleasant sweetness. My only complaint was the inability to see how fresh it was. I didn't get much of a malt taste.
I'm currently working on Tweason'ale from DFH- This beer is what I picture the strawberry beer from Beerfest tasting like. Carbonated, very light, a deceiving abv of 6%. It's very reminiscent of eating a watermellon gummy....I don't really mind this, but I'm curious how it wold taste on draft. The use of sorghum is apparent and well played for a gluten-free market beer. I used to babysit a family as a kid where 1 of the parents had celiac, and 3/4 kids were. This beer is a solid alternative.

So, my background music for this session:

Honestly, inspiration for trying these beers goes to utopiajane , 'cuz I saw her (post) drinking these beers recently, and then, lo! and behold, they were in a store I visited yesterday...

And now the moment (I've) been waiting for (lol)...
Granted, EvilTwin apparently produces a pre-mixed black and tan Yin and Yang, but this is sooo much more organic... :grinning:

Trial run (lol - lookit my post-it drawing)
    Hey - this is a one-shot deal, y'know? :stuck_out_tongue:

    Go time:
Yes, a little timid - wish I had whatever camera/set-up/technique Thehuntmaster has - his pours are epic...
So, in a slight departure from NBS form...
I give you my very own Yin and Yang
    [IMG]
I'm gonna tell you that this was an amazing black and tan, and you're gonna believe me...
Frickin' hoppy and smooth and roasty and delicious!
    Gimme a spoon!

Great way to end my NBS.

    Cheers, all!

I'm having El Torero IPA today, which seems appropriate since this weekend wraps the festival of San Fermin in Pamplona Spain, with all that running if front bulls nonsense. My favorite activity to do with bulls involves a grill... and maybe a baked potato. But I digress.

Not impressed with El Torero, it's kind of thick and bready for my taste. Glad I had it, might try it again in the winter, but on a warm summer day it's not my glass of beer.

As I said, warm, mid 80's here in the Columbia Basin, with the wheat harvest maybe another warm week away.

    Happy Trails!

    New Foreign/Export Stout Sunday

Greetings Fellow NBS-ers from Southern, CT,

Spent a good portion of the day swimming in humidity soup, simply meaning I was outside.

I really wanted something different for NBS today, so I tried this fine brew from Ballast Point:

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/199/69792/?ba=CHADMC3

If you are a style traditionalist, this brew is probably not for you. I really had to sit and take this beer in to fully appreciate it as my review reflects. This is an odd collaboration brew, but it works. It's almost like eating pad thai and drinking a Guinnes Foreign Extra.

Can't wait to read up on all of the action today on NBS shortly.

    Moving on!

I had a 2013 Old Stock Ale from North Coast. I picked it up for just 3.25 after tax, which seems to be quite the steal. At 11.9%, I could not taste the booziness. I didn't get as much hops as I expected as this is supposed to be very fresh, but I got a very carmely taste to it. It went down beyond smooth, and it was surprising. I had Brother Thelonious from North Coast and I considered it a boozy mess. I felt almost a creamy Bigfoot would be a great beer comparison to Old Stock. I haven't had many old ale's but I continually find beers from this style hide abv well with flavors that pop as they warm up.This beer showed me that they can really produce some fine quality brews at a high ABV. I'll grab one more to leave in my folk's wine cellar for now.

I'm also quaffing a Single Track Copper Ale by Breckenridge I picked up for 75 cents before I grab dinner.
DP Dough or Chipolte.....it's all within a walk to me!
