Good morning pipers of pale ale and drummers of dopplebock!

I hope this message finds you ready to enjoy all things new and beer related on this fine Sunday. Weather in Central OH has been crazy hot and humid. We got some showers over the weekend but humidity seems to be dialed up. Looks like most of the country is suffering from the heat wave so stay cool. For some reason, IPA's always taste better in the heat. I think it's some of the citrus characters from the American IPA's that I like that pairs well with the higher temps. Although I did pick up some Green Flash Double Stout that will probably be making an appearance today. Wow! That's a stout that I've ignored for too long. Already saw Tumbler on the shelves too. Don't get me started on fall seasonals showing up in mid-July.

Enough of my rambling. Today is the day and this is the place to share your adventures related to new beer. TRY a new beer and TELL us about it. Think of this as your virtual pub to ramble on about the virtues of the new beer in your glass today. Linked reviews are appreciated. A good description is the minimum cost for entry. Pics are always welcome and we have some photo wizards that always impress (check out previous NBS offerings by DIM, Greywulfken (a.k.a. the trailblazer of NBS photo ops), JoeyBeerBelly, and cavedave for inspiration).

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Cheers and a happy New Beer Sunday to all of you.

This week was hot as blazes here in upstate new york. My apartment saw temps of 88 degrees and at one point I think I actually quoted the wizard of Oz with; "I'm mellllting."

I tired anchor steam beer this week at the recommendations of all the BA's in threads and found it to be just as they said. Going to look for the lager, the liberty ale, humming ale and the porter. Watched a couple of old movies on TCM which I - just - love. Sunday at my house used to mean one and only one thing. Abbot and Costello. WPIX channel 11 would play an abbot and costello movie each sunday. I love those two.

Today I tried the Stone Imperial Russian Stout and while I thought it was pretty good but I didn't like it as much as everyone else. Cheers!

Good morning Matt, blessings to you and yours. I am having a Boulevard KC Pils as we speak. First time trying it. Pours into a nice Carlsberg pils glass with a deep golden color, and head retention fades, but sticks at about a half an inch. Aroma reminds me of a good freshly baked bread. Taste is clean, crisp and a little hoppy. This
is a good Pilsener. Reminds me a little of SN Summerfest, but not as hoppy. Good day sir, and all you BAs.

    Good morning, NBS!

Disgustingly hot and humid here all week - the kinda weather that saps your will to live. Some cloud-cover and a slight drop in temp today offer some reprieve.

Gonna be starting off with a beer from Louisiana, so I'll stay on-theme and give you a little Down to listen to, from back in '95 - their debut album, NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana ):

Phil Anselmo from Pantera on vocals, Kirk Windstein from Crowbar on bass, Pepper Keenan from COC on lead guitar, and Tommy Bowers, from Louisiana's own Eyehategod, on bass.

This random buy from Bayou Teche Brewery got it started:
    Biere Joi

Wasn't sure what I was getting here...
    The label offered this info:
And I found a blog with this to elaborate upon the product since their website had no info on the beer at all!
    So, off we go.
Ostensibly a dubbel, although you'll find very little by way of tradition here.
I'm not a big dubbel drinker, but my frames of reference include Chimay, Westmalle, and Ommegang.
This was more of an open-interpretation of the style, like Dogfish Head's Urkontinent.
I really enjoyed this beer. Lots of oak and wood, mellow roasted coffee, and arbol pepper tingle.
Very light on the tongue and smooth-drinking.

Didn't notice if this was paid any attention yesterday, but July 20, 1973 marked the anniversary of the legendary Bruce Lee's death.
I've always been a fan, and I'd be remiss if I didn't raise my first glass in honor of his memory, pictured here back in 1966 with his son, Brandon, also tragically dead before his time.

Cheerier times ahead, with new beers all day :grinning:!

Greetings fellow NBSers! A warm, sunny summery day here in the Fourth Corner. I'm just stopping by for a quick howdy as I won't be having any new brews today, any old brews either for that matter. I'm laying here in the local hospital, and will be having my gall bladder out sometime today. I hope y'all have a great NBS, and have an extra one for me!

    New IPA Sunday

    Greetings to all NBSer's,

A little break in the heat and humidity here in SCMN. Cloudy today with chances of showers. Cloudy days in the summer somehow seem gloomier than other times of year. Nonetheless, a good enough break to focus on various plants I'm in charge of tending. And hopefully it won't be long before regular consumption of plant goodies can proceed in earnest.

This week will be my third in a row of ingesting and reviewing a beer that got recognition at the recent U.S. Open Beer Championship. Today's tasting recieved 3rd place in the category IPA. A truly plains states product from a brewery that has several other beers that I have found to be pleasing. This one is easily the best of the beers of the past three NBS's.

Best week to all and especially Beertunes as he recovers. That 1st beer will be even sweeter. :grinning:

    ***New Amber/Red Ale Sunday!!!

    Greetings all!

The heat continues in Casper...forecast is for 92° today and 96° tomorrow.

Another Howler of another WY brew. Amber Ale with a tart twist:

I didn't write it in my review, but the tartness I mentioned now tastes very lemonade like. A Radler Amber, Amber Radler?

Cheers to all and stay cool, my friends.

New Belgian Brown Ale SundayGood Afternoon!

I got a few beers in a trade with Cynic-ale (thanks btw!). I opened the growler he brought me from Zauber Brewing in Columbus, OH. He got me their Magnum. I like it. Its an add combination of an English Nut Brown and a Belgian. Strong dry nutty malt, finish is dry and full of the great Nut Brown flavors!

I really like it! Thanks cynic-ale!

I don't think it can get more awesome than this. Sitting on the deck of a rental on a lake in Traverse City. Blue skies, light breeze, low 70's. Ahh...

Looking forward to hitting up Right Brain, North Peak, and others during our stay.

Introduced the housemates to the NBS concept, to much approval.

Found these tasty treats among others while shopping for the stay.

Formal review will come from notes when I'm not tied to a smartphone for means of entry.

Just had the Dark Horse. Very balanced (as I like from my Midwestern IPAs). Earthy hops with some grapefruit tones accompanied by a malt backbone resembling toasted whole-wheat bread. Purchased as a single, I'm guessing it's from the 4/20 pack, in which case it has some age. Tasty all the same.

    NEW BELGIAN STRONG DARK ALE

Happy NBS all! Nice sunday today for my moms birthday. We went to her church to see a steel drum band this morning. They were incredible! They did a very rousing version of When the Saints Go Marching In. After taking her out to lunch I enjoyed a souvenir from my sister and her husbands trip to Argentina. Infected unfortunately but I love the name. It literally means, the kicking mule. But it also an expression Argentinian men use to refer to a nagging wife.

    New American IPA Sunday !

Greetings to the NBS group from a warm, sunny, and steamy Jersey Shore. No relief from the heat yet after a week in which the mercury hit the century mark twice here in Toms River.

There's new, and cold, beer. So all is good.

I headed to New Brunswick (NJ) yesterday with a couple of fellow Tunaheads to catch a show at the State Theatre. It's around the corner from a Rutgers U campus so the bar scene was good. Here's proof:

Then there was Jorma doin' his thing:
72 years young, I love to listen to him play.

All this fun brings me to today's new beer:http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/21092/71249/?ba=NiceTaps

All the best to everyone, and I hope that your week's been a good one.
Now my next beer is a toast to Beertunes for health and happiness.

    Cheers!

Another sunday, another set of tests to be studying for. Cardiac disorders are fun, but I like the renal issues better (history). Enjoying this rare offensive outburst from my Ms (even if it is just Houston they're playing), and after the odd series that it's been so far (a strange cycle, then the one hit four run win yesterday), a good old fashioned ass-whooping is kind of nice.
This past week was another tour de disaster, so I'm hoping to get things off to a good start with the test first thing in the morning tomorrow.
This is one of my first true experiences with a rauchbier. By the bottle I'd only ever had that voodoo maple abortion from Rogue, and I'd tried a couple of smoked beers at the StL Heritage fest (but they were very small samples, and I don't remember them that well), so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going in.
Certainly a definitively smokey presence, but not overwhelming and unpleasant. Makes me miss late night bonfire BBQs on the beach :/

The studying means it's film scores in music land. All Affleck jokes aside, the Argo soundtrack is pretty strong. I like the use of non-traditional (western) instrumentation and Desplat manages to keep even the more subdued cues interesting and nuanced.

    PS
Thanks Jane for the reminder of just how great Abbot and Costello were. Classics for a reason.

Beertunes: happy recovery from that procedure, I understand they have pretty good prognoses in general, no? My dad's getting ready to undergo something similar soon. Look forward to getting back to your weekly updates on the best damn section of the world out there!
