Good morning barons of bock and baronesses of Belgians! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your goblets, seidels, and pokals today!

Weather in Central OH is unusually warm and rainy. The warmer weather makes it harder for me to want to break out the winter seasonals so we'll have to see what today brings us.

I feel like the Christmas beer season has "officially" arrived now with the Sam Adams winter mixed pack finally in my fridge. The Juniper IPA was interesting and I was pleasantly surprised by the Cherry Chocolate Bock. I was hoping the flavors wouldn't be too "artificial" and as usual, SA delivered for me. We'll see if they make an appearance here today.

Enough of my rambling. Today is the day and this is the place to TELL us about your NEW beer. Please grab a beer that's new to you and DESCRIBE it here. That's all we ask. A simple description will be more than adequate to help us virtually partake in your new beer extravaganza today. If you prefer, linked reviews are a nice touch as long as any pics and other such shenanigans to help us on your new beer conquest today. Please save the "what I might have" posts for other threads.

Time to grade some BJCP exams and get that honey-do list knocked out so I can log back-in and add my contribution to NBS!

    Good day and good drinkin'

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Good morning all you NBS advocates! As Matt mentioned, it did seem like Christmas early this week with temps in the 20s and light snow falling. My how that has changed as it is in the mid 50s and storming right now! Today I woke up early and made pancakes as I do every Sunday morning. I decided to break out a new beer, Imperial Biscotti Break. A sensational stout that favors a chocolaty, rich maltiness, with just enough bitter notes to keep it balanced. It was a real treat and I still have some for later. Look forward to all the great new beer and make it a great NBS!

    NEW FARMHOUSE SUNDAY

Happy nbs all! I was up at four both friday and saturday to work 14 hour days and I still could not sleep. So I stayed up late watching Love and Death, Woody Allen's funniest movie and drinking this

Looking forward to date day with the wife, the first in too long. A bike ride and dinner out sounds great even if the sky is gloomy and a bit threatening. Cheers!

Edit: Don't if there any NBS bird nerds out there, but I saw a Harris hawk in Akron PA this week! Escaped from a falconer apparently.

    New Tripel Sunday

Morning, and hey , on a grey, rainy day, here on the globally-warmed island of Long...

Looking forward to the games today (oh, how empty are my Sundays in spring and summer... :slight_frown:), enjoyed via NFL's RedZone channel - football on steroids, the way the game was meant to be played (*looks for trademark icon*)

Love dem tripels - one of my first favorite styles, courtesy of La Fin Du Monde.
Last night had a Karmeliet, with some free proprietary glassware :grinning: - which is a great tripel-reference point...
Today, trying my first Gouden Carolus Tripel
    [IMG]
Have to measure your pour with most tripels, 'cuz they will give such good, quick head
...er, produce a big head very quickly.
    Effervescent, full-flavored, light-feeling
    [IMG]
Tart and fruity, citric and floral, smooth and crisp

    And now this...

Cheers - here's to new beer in your glass!

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone  I hope this finds you all well and in good spirits. Today is like eye candy in my opinion as it's gloomy but still rather warm and rainy. I love those kind of days.

I have a Belgian Strong Dark Ale today from Unibroue. It comes in at 10.5% abv and I love to spend my Sunday with a nice big beer. This brewery rarely disappoints and this one was just delicious. [IMG]

I have to admit I am enjoying the respite from the introduction we had to the wintry weather as I am not prepared for snow and ice just yet. I think that I am happy about reaching 300 ratings and want to take some time to appreciate the beers that I have really enjoyed. I am not going to quit rating or anything but I am thinking of devoting the holidays to my cooking and to the enjoyment of the beers that I have really appreciated over the past year. Thanksgiving is coming up and it never ceases to amaze me how cheap turkey is . At 49 cents a pound I am literally trying to think of how many can I buy cook, store and freeze before it becomes ridiculous? Beaujolais day is coming and that is a favorite of mine. I had a minor disaster int he kitchen recently as a friend tried to teach me to make a sponge cake. It was rubbery but tasty and the only way to serve it is dunked in coffee. :flushed:

Ah well, try try again. And may the tasting always continue. Cheers!

I shared a growler of HF Double Citra, and a bottle of HF Arthur saison, with a good friend, and left him a can of HT to enjoy. He gave me this as a parting gift (don't worry, he provided plenty of other beer as well that evening). First beer from Tallgrass; very nice. Extremely smooth, quite tasty.

    Cheers!

I love Tripels; can't wait to try both of those. People rave about Karmeliet. So far, nothing beats the original, for me (Westmalle), but there are plenty of really, really good ones.

    New Doppelbock Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

From cloudy, but seasonably warm SCMN. Other than a nasty cold snap for two days last week November has been pretty tolerable. And as things get ready for the Christmas season, so do I. I'm enjoying the seasons old standards, e.g. SN Celebration Ale and Schell's Snowstorm, and the new ones appearing on the shelves.

Today's new beer is a collaboration beer with Schell's and the brewery in a German town for which New Ulm was named. This is a small enough brewery that it doesn't have a beer reviewed yet in BA, yet I am sure that just like Schell's, Gold Ochsen keeps the locals happy with enjoyable beers.

This is an attractive beer with unique hopping and solid malt flavors. Unique hopping that I enjoy, but some may not.

Another new beer that I took a chance on just because of the Amarillo hops. I like how New Belgium went against the norm and put Accumulation out as a winter seasonal when the markets are flooded with stouts. I also think it was smart not to have it during the summer as it could get passed over with all the other options available.

It is quite hoppy, with bitter citrus the dominant flavor, but a bit of light bready malt flavor helps balance it out. It is very easy drinking and full of flavor. Typically not a fan of White IPAs, but this one is worth it given the price.

Hello to all my fellow NBSers. It's always great to be back again to the feel good thread on BA, but I may have to bring us down a bit today. Today in Chicagoland, we have seen some severe weather that has taken away that feel good feeling in many people's life. Tornados have hit all over the state, all the way from Central Illinois up to just outside of Chicago. Several places have seen a complete leveling of homes and commercial buildings, including the cities of Washington, Pekin, and Coal City. I would like to extend a special cheers to all of the city workers in all the damaged cities, not only in Illinois but all over the midwest that are keeping order and taking care of those that have lost so much today. I hope that all of you, at the very least, will add all those affected to your thoughts and prayers.

Now I'll get back on track with this great thread. Today, I have finally given in to my curiosity on a beer that I have seen for the last few years around this time of year, but I haven't pulled the trigger. I now know how foolish it has been to pass up this bad boy, and you can read all about that here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/1924/?ba=offthelevel_bytheplumb

I'm going back for another one of these first, but the plan is to be back later on with some less sessionable brews.

    HAPPY NEW OATMEAL STOUT SUNDAY.

Greetings to the NBS group from a mild day here at the Jersey Shore. The day began with thick soupy fog, eventually giving way to some afternoon sunshine and temps in the upper 60s. Unseasonable for real, and that's ok. There will be plenty of cold to come, I'm sure.
The warmth did not prevent me from trying a new stout from Wolaver's today: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/119/14172/?ba=NiceTaps.
Not bad but I would have liked to "feel the oats", if you will.

I'm relieved to say that I've completed my work on our kitchen remodel. All that's left is the tile backsplash and that work is going to a pro. I'm off the hook...and my wife's off my back!

We're heading south in a couple of days to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Four days in Key West and a couple of days in Miami Beach. New beer will be part of the fun!!

    All the best everyone, Cheers!

It seem to like this one more than the other reviewers, but I do think it is a malty and flavorful APA.

My 750th review as well. It's just a number, but still a bit of a milestone on the never ending beer journey.

The Seawahks have the upper hand, the Cougars surprised us with a win yesterday, and the Huskies were beaten by UCLA on Friday night. So a good football weekend all around from my vantage point.

Breezy here in eastern Washington, temps in the upper 40's and right now we have some rays of sunlight streaming in under cloud deck as the sun sinks into the southwestern horizon.

    Until next week,

    Happy Trails!

Happy NBS(or New you put cherries in what? Sunday) Matt et al,
I was fortunate to go to the Bruery's Barrel Aged Beers event and the only new one for me was a Black Tuesday w/ sour cherries. I prefer BT w/o the cherries, but I was glad to try it. For those of you who like sour cherries you'd probably really like this one.

    Greetings NBSers

A little late getting here today. Crazy warm and stormy weather in the midwest today. We were fortunate to miss any of the big ones so far.

    New Sour Sunday! (NSS?)

I'm enjoying this tasty Consecration from Russian River, courtesy of @JayORear and slow-sipping. As I mentioned on the WBAYDN thread, I don't have a ton of experience with sours, although I've had several other wild ales, or Bretted beers (Bretted is SO a word, Mozilla spell-check! Well, OK, not really, but I'm keeping it).

Very tart and sour - as expected - with a noticeable but not overpowering funkiness. Very slight sweetness to balance it out. Overall, an extremely well-crafted beer. Not exactly my normal (I think I'll continue to regularly down IPAs while occasionally slipping in a stout/porter, TYVM), but a fantastic overall experience, and a great beer to continue to train my palate to wild ales in general, and sours in particular.

I shared a bit of this with my wife - a very small bit, mind. She liked it, but I'm the Cab Sauv fan in the house, after all.

    Prost, NBS Freunde!

Well, as offthelevel_bytheplumb mentioned, the weather here in the middle of the country has been pretty unforgiving today. I live in a crappy basement, so I didn't feel much of it (and St. Louis didn't have the full on Tornadoes that hit around us, primarily to the north), but got several notifications from friends who were concerned about the wind. I looked outside and it was sunny at my house and thought they were just being paranoid. Then I rode my bike to the beer store to pick some stuff up, and while it wasn't flattened houses by any means (thank goodness), there were multiple large trees down along the road, and some serious property damage. I was going to take a picture, but... am not very good at the taking-a-picture-while-it's-dusk-and-I'm-riding-past-a-scene-trying-not-to-get-hit-by-the-cars.

One of the highlights for me of moving to Saint Louis has been the availability of some midwest beers (Bell's, Founders, Odell in particular) that I couldn't find back home in Washington. Add to this the fact that I found it as a single on sale, and todays excursion to Kalamazoo was quite the exciting one. This is a stout that I've heard so much about and long been excited to try, and am glad I was able to find it on sale today. Apparently I've gotten to the point where the folks at the liquor store recognize me (and my backpack). I'm not sure if I SHOULD be proud of that fact, but dammit, I kind of am. We even got to joke about customers and excoriate the truck chasers and whale hunters a little bit. Good times. Hope y'all and your loved ones have managed to stay safe and had a good weekend,

    Cheers!

New American Baltic Porter Sunday (week 456)

Greetings NBS'ers from a rainy, misty, but warm day on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. The bad weather didn't keep the good folks from recycling items so that the skin of the earth can preserve for at least a short while those raw materials we insist upon scraping from her body. A trip to our local beer mecca, Peekskill Brewery was a tough ride through fog and rain, but worth it. Enjoyed the finest Baltic Porter I have yet to taste, and if you are ever in this neck of the woods I suggest you give it a try as well. Sorry no pic of my glass on the bar, but trust me it was right purty. Hope you have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!
