    New DIPA Sunday

Greetings NBS - from Southern, CT

. . . where it was overcast and rainy most of the day after a fantastic day on Saturday. Got some winter chores done yesterday then cracked open some winter seasonal favorites (Brooklyn Black Chocolate and FBS). Spent most of the day helping the in-laws paint yet again (6th weekend this fall, and yes the exterior :grimacing:) despite the weather.

After all the work this weekend I think I earned a massive brew for NBS. My sister recently sent me this treat from NC:

I've read alot about this brewery recently so I was excited to try it and it hit the spot.

**Looks like another awesome participation week on NBS - can't wait to read about the new brews in a little bit.

    New Wet-Hop IPA Sunday

My favorite JAX beach brewery (Green Room) did a split batch IPA, with one-third each single-hopped Simcoe, Citra, and Mosaic fresh hops. I missed the Simcoe version :slight_frown:, but had the Citra at the taproom yesterday. Really liked it, but it was blown away by the Mosaic version that I took home in a growler. My new favorite hop!

So I am not the biggest pumpkin beer fan but I told myself this year I was going to find a pumpkin beer I will really like. I like the concept but just have never found a pumpkin beer I loved. I had a recent trade in which I got a few pumpkin beers. The one beer I was really looking forward to was Pumking. Today I decided to crack it open and enjoy the sweet, spicy goodness.

Well, I have to say I was extremely disappointed. The aroma and taste was sweet gram cracker and butter. It reminded me more of buttery popcorn than pumpkin. I had a few sips and man I wasn't liking it, so I let it warm up and that butter flavor never faded. More cinnamon came up but I barely could muster the strength to finish it. Beer also left a film on the roof of my mouth.

    Won't be drinking this again...ever.

Hey all, it's that time of the week again, the dreaded Sunday night. Thankfully, new beers and this thread help relax me a little as I dread the week ahead…

It was a solid weekend, temperatures have crept back up to around 80 after being chilly earlier this week, and the Saints picked up a solid win this afternoon.

For my new beer today, I tried a porter from Crown Valley. I've been impressed with their offerings but this one was slightly sub par for me:

    Cheers all and happy NBS!

Ten Fidy, the can of motor oil labelled as "imperial stout" ... holy cow is it sweet, dark-malty and full of flavor. It's, let's say, comfortably boozy -- I can tell this dude is packing 10.5% ABV but as it warms up, I'm tasting more sweet malted barley goodness and less rubbing alcohol. Almost sweet enough to taste like a milk stout. And I'd swear I'm detecting a hop note every now and then.

I am not a big stout drinker, but I'm learning and Ten Fidy is definitely going to find its way into my fridge in the future.

Does not sound like the Pumking I know. Usually tastes like toasted pumpkin seeds with an appropriate amount of autumnal seasonal spices. I would suggest a second try before giving up on this beer.

Greetings fellow NBSers! I had several new brews today, but due to intratoob availability, I couldn't do any reviews, thus join in.:slight_frown:. I did watch the last NASCAR race of the year at one of my locals, where I had prepurchased a 750 of 3F Oude Gueze. Great stuff!

I hope to actually participate next week, Cheers all!

Well, after keeping pace early, the Vikes fell prey to a Seahawks team that is finally starting to hit its stride. If we'd left our starters in, I honestly believe it could have ended up 55-13. Finally seem to be getting our run defense back under control, too.
It's been a busy day of reviewing COPD, sleep apnea, hypertension, kidney failure and other such fun topics for a big test in the morning, since clinical all day yesterday was followed by a full night of good times. A classmate was one of the stars and choreographers of fall show (Pyaar Impossible!) put on by the Indian Student Union, and despite myself, it pulled me out of a grumpy day and shitty mood in a major way. All you can eat good indian food definitely helped, too, and finally checking out the International Taphouse for another friend's birthday was just a perfect capper. I think I finally may have found a foundation of... what are they called? People one enjoys spending time with, and who are interested in one's presense? Friends? Something like that? In this (I still consider it) new city. Cool story, I know. Two last notes from last night:
1: I like a good CDA, but all too often they don't realize the full potential of the style and just kind of end up being bitter liquid burnt grain. I tried Mountain Standard from Odell last night, and, like just about everything I've had from them since moving to within their distro, ds;kfjsakljnas. Amazingly well done example of the style. Super recommend it.
2: The friend whose birthday it is works in a forge, and clued me into the teaching the forge owner does. I'm super excited about the potential of learning some metal working. I've long admired the examples I've seen either back home, or around and about(hotmetal1 consistently seems to have some really cool work displayed on this site, for example), and all of a sudden I've got some ideas for christmas (namely making something for my little brother).

Anyway, on to George Foreman. This guy packs a wallop. I'm really enjoying it, and get the feeling that laying it down for a little while would push it into the stratosphere. I'm going to have to go grab a couple more bottles and test this theory.

Well multiple repeats tonight including a Dreadnaught, Kisetsu, Jai Alai, Greenbush Anger and Blackout Stout. However the new beers were:

Bear Republic Racer 5: Someone I was trading with offered some Racer X which I assumed I could find around here, and I regret not taking it. Slightly bitter rather forgettable IPA. blah 3/5 stars

Pipeworks Centennial Ninja: Well Chicago's best brewery does it again. Had the Cascade Ninja earlier this week and I prefer this one, wonderful showcase for a single hop variety. Sure Citra Ninja gets all the love around these parts but this is a fanstastic series of beers.

Pipeworks Beejay's Weirdo Brown Ale: It's a brown ale, take that for what it's worth. Very similar to the Brash/Clown Shoes collab Pimp Bus. I'm told if you like Brown Ales this beer is for you. I don't like Brown Ales so it was passable at best. I can't fault Pipeworks for trying a new style, it's just not a style I prefer.

Now stay tuned because I just might crack open another bottle or two...

I hope you are right. The only problem is I have to trade for it and unless someone where to throw it in as an extra I won't be traded for it again. If I could buy it off the shelf it might be a different story.

Warlock is a better Pumpkin beer from Souther Tier for my money.
