Good morning pilgrims of pale ale and natives of nut browns! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your snifters, nonics, and chalices today!

Weather in Central OH is frosty with snow flurries yesterday! It finally felt right to have Old Fezziwig in the snifter and sip it by the fire. Looks like some winter goodies continue to populate the local area so I'm hoping to hit the bottle shop today and pick up some Great Lakes Blackout Stout or possibly some Barrel-Aged Siberian Night. Neither one of those is new to me so they won't be making an appearance here today.

Speaking of...this is the day and this is the thread to share your new beer conquests. Please TRY a new beer and SHARE your thoughts here. A good description is the cover charge but linked reviews, pictures, and other techno-wizardy gets you full VIP access to the festivities today. Please wait until you have tried your beer to give us your thoughts.

Regardless of all the silliness going on in social media, I wanted to take this opportunity to extend Thanksgiving wishes to all the folks that make NBS a fantastic "virtual pub" experience. We have our regulars, our one timers, our "long time listener, first time callers" folks, and those of you who choose to sit back and watch the festivities from a distance. Thank you, as always, for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

    Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Happy NBS! It is like January in WI today with temps only in the teens. I decided I would need a big bottle of something to warm me up. Prairie Ales Wine Barrel Noir was my choice. It is a stout, but there is big aroma and flavor from the wine barrels. It is pretty good with roasted malt and chocolate, but has an odd after taste from the wine. Hopefully everyone else is keeping warm and enjoying a great new beer today.

Had a busy morning, drinking-wise that is...

    Let's get this this goin'...
You're going to need to raise the volume, great tune but very low-volume video :astonished:...

Hey! It's actually cold today! :grinning: Cheers! Late November is supposed to be cold at 40 latitude!

Started off with a smoked coffee porter from the Netherlands... figured I'd give the 11 oz. bottle a center-pour into a pint to see what it had to offer...
    Ugh. Looks... dirty... lol
    ...and that's it.

    Emelisse Smoked Coffee Porter
    [IMG]
I'm not too partial to thin-bodied porters, and this is one of those.
    Bottle-conditioned apparently...
Anyway, big smoke and coffee flavors, if you're a fan.
Not a bad way to start the day, but too thin and sweet for me to return to...

So then it was onto new beer #2, but with some fortification first:
Fried whitefish with coleslaw, parsley, and lemon...
...paired so well with Captain Lawrence's Captain's Reserve Imperial IPA
    [IMG]
Now this was a really good beer - I'd definitely buy another.

Well, that's my new beer portion of the day - moving onto more familiar ale from here on out, starring Great Divide. Their Titan IPA is slated to accompany football and food throughout the day. Later still, their Oak Aged Yeti will see me through the most recent installment of Walking Dead.

    Cheers, all!

Hi everyone and Happy New Beer Sunday. Today I have a beer from Deschutes; Jubelale their festive winter warmer. Today is the first very cold day we have had and yesterday we saw lake effect snow flurries. Time to stock up on beer and batten down the hatches cause this winter is supposed to be a doozy. Cheers!

I got this beer from a pal o' mine whose birthday is today. You wanna know how coincidence just fills the universe here you go. BitterBill was drinking a beer that had my birthday as the expiration date. He sent that beer to me and also this one. I said I will drink this beer on the first cold day we have. That's today and it's his birthday too.

    New Winter Warmer Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
Winter is here and I figured it was probably best to go with a beer made for this type of weather. Looks and feels like after Christmas. Barren and some snow on the ground. Starting to get dark by 4:30 - that's the most depressing part.
So, I had a hard time finding a local new beer that fit this weather so I grabbed one that just about everyone can get, but one that has a pretty good reputation for a national brand. It fit the situation of today pretty darn well.

Best to all the T-giving week.

Tough call this early afternoon. We had the second snow of the season yesterday, and it's bitterly cold today, but the fire place is SO far away from the TV (and thus the NFL). Instead of a winter warmer, I decided for a football accompaniment of a winter IPA, and thus I find myself trying out Juniper IPA from Sam Adams.

Normally I pour IPAs into my nice tall ale Spiegelau glass, but I felt like using my HF tulip today:

Very nice aroma, clean look; disappointing head, as I poured it pretty heavily:

The reviews on this beer seem to be really skewed against it being an IPA from SA. It's actually pretty tasty: pleasantly hoppy, sweet, fairly original. As I said in my review, it wouldn't replace Jai Alai or Flower Power as a daily IPA, but for a seasonal offering, it's worth a try, no question.

    Cheers!

    New local Sunday
Coffman Coffee by Crown Valley Brewing Company

It's the beginning (sort of) of thanksgiving break! how exciting. Thanksgiving is my single favourite holiday of the year. Aside from the dirty history of broken treaties and genocide and all that, the holiday really just celebrates that which we are thankful for. Gratitude and all that. Love it. Toss in good friends for whom you share a genuine love and just an absolute smörgåsbord of the best foods (whipped potatoes? Turkey? STUFFING!?!? et al?)... count me in. Optional class tomorrow morning, but I'll attend anyway, and I'll celebrate today anyway as well. Cleaning and working on Mari has kept me busy thus far.
I don't know why, but my phone didn't save the other (better) picture I took, so this will have to do.
Breakfast of leftover apple/pear pie? I'll take it. I was surprised to find that this beer was not in the BA database. It's an example of one that has a lot of positive components that doesn't quite live up to the sum of its parts. It definitely improves as it warms (speaking of warming... it was in the teens last night. It's like 25F right now. Is it safe to say winter is upon us?), and I feel like it deserves a higher rating than I gave it, but I can't justify increasing any of the individual categories. Oh wells. I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe on this late November afternoon, and cheers and happy drinking!!

    NEW BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

Greetings NBSers! Frigidity has settled on Lancaster county, its damn cold! Saturday insomnia struck again so I found myself sipping this beast well after midnight. A bit sweeter than I prefer, but an interesting offering overall.

Thanks to @xVERITAS for this awesome brew.

DC BRAU ON THE WINGS OF ARMAGEDDON.

Super dank. Citrus notes. Everthing I love in a DIPA. Bitterness is perfect.

Dangerously easy to drink for 9.2.

Big beer is going great with a cold winter day and to ease the nerves of the Broncos at NE in a few here.

It's also the coolest can ever.

I can't wait to find this beer fresh; it consistently looks great and has solid reviews. And, yes, the can is perfect for old-school headbangers.

Kern River Citra Dipa - Hot diggity damn, this beer said Pineapple aromas and they weren't kidding. Fantastic beverage, plenty of citrus aromas. Not as dry hopped as I was expecting, but some wonderfully complex notes going on here. Got to thank my man in Cali for send me this (arrived yesterday).

Oh and they'll probably be more beer it's only 3pm.

Not a huge Scotch ale fan but good gracious this is tasty. Tastes like a good glass of whisky (Scotch Whiskey of course). Boozy in all the right ways, Founders you officially reclaim your place as my favorite brewery ever.

An amber ale that almost tastes like a very thin bodied stout. Overall a good beer. It really came alive more when it warmed up to room temperature. First beer that I've had by Local Option and despite almost passing the beer up due to the silly name, I'm happy I spent my money on it.

Local Option is my favorite bar pretty much ever, but I've not been disappointed by any of their beers. The Kentucky Common is especially good.

Happy NBS! Tried out the latest Sixpoint release, the Global Warmer, while drowning my sorrows at yet another pitiful Jets performance.

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10607/104466/?show_ratings=Y

So I ordered it at the local watering hole. Owner said it was untapped earlier this weekend and was surprised to see a plateau of foam on the top:

Overall a nice winter warmer on a day where the wind chill makes it feel like it's less than 10 degrees outside. The smell was outstanding--a noticeable hop aroma with some fruit notes. The taste was surprisingly malty given the hop aroma, followed with some of the winter warmer spices as an after-taste. Would definitely recommend picking up a can or 4 pack if you can.
