Good morning boxers of Bo Pils and fighters of Foreign Extras! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your growlers, pokals, and beckers today!

Weather in Central OH has been crazy warm (although we did have a somewhat white Christmas). Santa came in the form of my mother-in-law who got me a gift card to Andersons and some homebrewing supplies. I picked up some nice sixers yesterday from Andersons and I will be brewing black ale (some might say “Black IPA” but that’s for a different thread) today. So…I’ll be sampling a new beer and brewing a new beer.

This brings me to the point of this weekly thread…please TRY a new beer and SHARE it here. Kindly enlighten us with a GOOD description of what has tickled your senses. Linked reviews help and pics and other interweb wizardy always make for a jolly good time.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

    Good day and good drinkin’

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

    Morning, everybody!

Just one new beer to report today: Eclipse Imperial Stout - Four Roses Bourbon edition
    [IMG]
Red wax seal identifies the contents
    [IMG]
Kicks up a fat, thick head...
This was a real nice bourbon barrel stout BUT it wasn't anywhere near as good as the one I had yesterday... (which warranted a follow-up post, too).
Straightforward character; ample dry bourbon and oak notes weave through the roasted dark malts, which carry the typical suggestions of espresso and bittersweet chocolate.
    Very pricey at $33 a bomber - maybe a good $20 bottle, but $33? That's a little steep.
    The final pour ^

    Unbelievably cool video here:

    Cheers, all!

@Greywulfken you have outdone yourself with that photograph of the blue rays of light surrounding the dark glass. Bravo!

Hi everyone and Happy new Beer Sunday! WooHoo!

The weather here is so awfully strange and while we did see snow on Christmas we had a 50 degree day yesterday. Sometimes I look out at the very un-traditional dryness and the almost blinding white reflection from the dried up salt on the sidewalks and roads and think that I will disappear into some kind of bright white light.

I had Ommegang's Hop House today and I liked it very much. Cheers all. :grinning:

G'day Matt, and to the rest of the NBS crew! Another cold day, here in Casper.

Goose Island brews coming to Casper are a newish thing. I just drank and reviewed the Pepe Nero, a brew of of one of my favourite styles. Pics:

Unfortunately, it doesn't come close to being my fav of the style:

Happy New American Double Stout Sunday!

Greetings (and belated Christmas wishes) from a cold and rainy day here at the Jersey Shore. I was looking forward to posting last week when the Christmas Blues hit me...I was under the weather for a few days but recovered in time for the big day. That's a bygone, on to the present.
I visited Kane Brewing yesterday for the first time, but not the last. It's a mere 25 minute ride door to door. My wife and I sampled a couple of flights. We did not sample the following, but took home a growler:http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26676/77884/?ba=NiceTaps.
I timed it right, perfect for today.

Their products are worth seeking out if you pass through Jersey.
No pics today, the phone is charging now.

All the best and have a Happy New Year, everyone. Cheers!

    New American Amber Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's
The final edition for 2013 and let me be a early sender of Happy New Years greetings to you all. SCMN had a two day respite from what will go down as one of the coldest December's on record (if not the coldest), but today we returned to a high of 2 or 3 or some other ridiculously cold temperature. Oh well, the mile high blue skies bring an uniquely attractive light on the snow and I'll take pleasure in that view out my window.
Meanwhile I'm enjoying a beer from my friendly neighbor to the east. A nice drinking amber with a nice hearty quality for style and the overall lightness for an ale.

Just as well I have plenty of things to do today, the least not being finishing my ceu's for the year.
Best to all and enjoy a grand New Year's eve.

New odd beer Sunday. Hope everyone is doing well. I built a snowman yesterday with the kit our girls got from Santa. It was finally warm enough to use it. The girls really liked how it turned out.
Today I am relaxing and watching the mercury drop quickly. It will be -5 by sunset! Enjoying a very unique and odd beer from Oddside Ales. It is a Blonde Ale infused with coffee beans. Unfortunately I don't get much coffee from it. Mostly cheap chocolate, bread, and grain. It just doesn't work for me. I hope everyone has a great NBS and a wonderful new year!

New Keller/Zwickel Bier Sunday (week 462)

Greetings NBS ers from a rainy and cold day on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Busy day at work trying to manage the cardboard and wrapping paper and glass into their proper roll offs so that new products can be created from old. Really enjoying this beer in a style I am not very familiar with, but which I now like more than I did, thanks to this really tasty version. It's an Austrian beer, but I hope you have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

New Black & Tan Beer Sunday.

Ok I'm sipping on this right now!
There is some earthy pungent hops on the aroma that is blanketed by a wave of spice and roasted malt sweetness. There isn't much hops in flavor but slam dunks with some roasted malt goodness.
There is a nice dose of Hop bitterness as the initial roasted malt and toffee with subtle fruit notes leave you wanting another sip. This isn't top tier but it is still enjoyable and satisfies my beer sweet tooth today. Cheers to NBS!

    NEW BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

Hello NBSers! I'm in good spirits despite the terribly wet weather for the annual Audubon Society Christmas bird count. My Dad and I had the same area every year all my life and now my oldest friend and I cover the territory together. We were drenched by 8:30 and saw half as many species as normal, but we still had a great time. Warming up now with a surprisingly good Mexican barleywine.

New Barrel Aged Wild Ale with Fruit Sunday

Hello again, New Beer Sundayers, today I opened up an Almanac Farmer's Reserve #3, a wild ale aged in oak barrels with strawberries and nectarines. I'm home in MA for the holidays, and just came back from an 18 hour round trip to Hill Farmstead and braved the lines, partly for drinks of my own, partly for trades. One such trade helped net me this beer I'm drinking today, as well as a Lou Pepe Gueuze 2009 that I just stuck in my Dad's wine cellar to age until I get married, which hopefully means it won't be there for much more than 5-10 years. On my way up to Vermont I tried in vain to get some Lawson's at the Warren store, which of course ran out before I got there, so I got some glassware as a consolation prize. I did get to the Prohibition Pig on the way back home, where I got to try Alchemist's Ouroboros, which is probably my favorite DIPA ever, now. Absolutely ridiculous beer, right there.

But on to the main event of this post, the Almanac Farmer's Reserve #3. When I popped the cap, the bottle gushed quite a bit, which might explain the relatively low carb on the beer. It wasn't as tart as many wild ales that I've had, which was perfectly fine with me because a lot of those end up as sippers, and I tend to prefer something I can actually drink. Sours remain among my few favorite styles, particularly fruited ones, and the Farmer's Reserve didn't disappoint.

    Review is here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24940/94425/?ba=WTKeene

No pictures, because I drank it too fast. Sue me.

i started off my Sunday late last night with this one:

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2874/6819/?ba=Premo88

I LOVE dubbels, and the St. Feuillien was plenty good -- sweet and fruity enough, real nice fig notes even a fig-hater like me can enjoy, and a fantastic finish over the final half with lots of the yeasty taste I love in dubbels.

It got me through pozole cooking, too, so +2 points to the Brune!

... and an oldie below in Bitburger (get some if you haven't! green, grassy German goodness with sweet barley) but that bag of sliced-up cabbage is a newbie for me -- how have i made it to 41 and not discovered the awesome power and force (in such a cheap form) as the cabbage?

Have you tried the Elijah Craig variant yet? I have both EC and Four Roses and trying to decide which one to open first...

Nah - wasn't an option - we got the Java Coffee (in-credible - top-notch shit), the Four Roses (pretty "normal" bourbon-barrel stout), and some kinda rye whiskey (lime green cap - didn't pick it up yet).

The word I heard is that the Elijah Craig would be the way to go :grinning: - you're not going to be disappointed in any event. It's just damn good beer.

    New Swedish hoppy ale day!

Staying with my uncle and cousins in Gothenburg for the holiday season following a wonderful semester in Greece and Italy as well as a small tour of Belgium. Belgium was incredible, as was the beer, but it's been nice to see some good hoppy beers in Sweden!

One of my favorites has been this Oppigårds Amarillo. Nice caramel malt base, but the hops are wonderfully balanced, with candied petal elements, sugary and floral, as well as a little piney and citrus character. Super refreshing, the hops are forward but it doesn't destroy the palate. Mmmmm the candied flower petal hop thing is wonderful, and the slightly piney finish just helps it even more.

A few of the hoppy ales I've had here have had some diacetyl stuff going on bit this one was clean and delicious.

    New Auld Sunday

    Auld Acquaintance by Pike Brewing

A friend of ours lost both of his parents in 2013, so we held a sweat for him today. His round was particularly intense, but I take that as a good sign. Lots was taken care of, lots of good done. It was cool seeing my brother taking care of the fire and the rocks, and this break has been really good on the brotherly bonding in general. We didn't always get along, and I've always regretted my role in that, but I'm glad we've been able to put that behind us and join forces. With our powers combined....

The pond was very cold, however, to jump into, especially right after coming out of the intense heat of the lodge. Part of the reason for jumping in, though, I suppose.

Auld Acquaintance is Pike's Winter Warmer, though it strikes me as almost more of a hoppy amber. It's decent: I'd certainly quaff it again, though I would find myself reaching elsewhere before I pulled this off the shelves again.
I'm just glad it wasn't raining today. Now it's time to scramble to get myself packed for the next week as I have to get on a ferry in about an hour. Heading down to Portland with the folks for the new year. Little do they know how much this trip will involve our preferred beverage of choice...

Cheers, and a cup o' kindness yet to you all!!

(I know it may be silly, but I think this is one of my favourite renditions of one of my favourite songs. Also: Go Hawks!)
