Good morning snow bunnies of Belgians and ice hounds of hefes! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your pokals, beckers, and snifters today!

Weather in Central OH is back to winter. We had a majestic snow fall last night that blanketed everything. Light and fluffy which made for easy shoveling this AM. Looks like we are heading for sub-zero temps again this week. Perfect for grabbing my snifter, sitting by the fire, and sipping something new to warm my gullet on this fine Sunday.

The talk of the town this week is Deschutes entering our market this week. Everyone is forecasting it to hit the shelves by Friday. Also, lots of chatter about when Hopslam will be poured this week. Whatever your thoughts are on these breweries and these beers, it's a good time to be a craft beer lover. Distribution and access seem to be getting better by the week. There's even a bill being introduced to the state about lifting the "12% cap" on beer in Ohio. I don't foresee this impacting me too much but there might be a few rare gems I could get if the law goes through. All great stuff.

Speaking of great stuff...today is the day and this is the place to TRY a NEW beer and TELL us about it here. Find something that's new to you, sample it, and share your musings, witty banter, hyperbole, and prose about your tasty discoveries. We kindly ask for a good description of what you had as a painless cover charge to help us all share in your new Sunday beer-ness. If you'd like to add a linked review, pictures, videos, or other fixin's to help in your sharing, feel free and it will be welcomed with hearty "likes" by all that frequent this humble weekly offering. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Happy New Beer Sunday Matt and all the NBS'ers today. This has been a most uneventful week and it's been a real treat to see my town get back to normal after so many weather related problems. Winter came back to us too but not before I had a chance to get to the beer store. Today I have a Great Divide's Colette. I have to admit I have been watching vicariously as @Grewulfken enjoyed the array of offerings from this brewery and I finally got one! I liked it very much and I think it's unique. It even says right on the cap that great minds drink alike .

This beer has a unique body that you wont' find in most farmhouse ales. It's a touch malty and while it's very soft and creamy it's also crisp and light. Out of the ordinary. Cheers!

Beautiful NBS to all of you! It is a gorgeous January day in S. WI. today. I will be taking my 4 yr old daughter out sledding this afternoon. Plenty of sun and south winds will make the 30 degree temps a welcome change before it drops below zero Monday night.

My new beer today is NC Old Stock Ale. I have been incredibly patient to try this beer, since it is 3 years old. I wish I would had bought more, since it is fantastic! It reminds me of a big scotch ale since it has a big caramel and bready sweetness with notes of sweet dark fruit. If you enjoy a big malty beer, I highly recommend you buy this beer and have some patience with it. You will be handsomely rewarded.

Cheers to trying a new beer today!

I like this new beer Sunday. For me today is a new local brewery Firefly Hollow and they're new beer The Wisp APA. I love the hops that are coming out of New Zealand and Australia, this one is single hopped with Wakatu. Very tasty. Really liking this small place being 12 mins up the road. Have had most of their offerings and haven't been let down by one. Cheers!

    NEW AMERICAN DIPA SUNDAY...

...here at the frigid Jersey Shore where it's maybe 25 raw degrees despite the abundant sunshine.
Greetings everyone, I hope that all is well. It's been a peacefully quiet week around here so I'll get right to today's new beer:http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/345/104028/?ba=NiceTaps
    [IMG]

My review rating come in slightly below average but that's no slight. This is an excellent DIPA. I'm glad to have it.
I may even call it a 'busy' beer. That's a compliment, there's a lot going on in there.

Liz asked me to keep her warm today. Don't tell my wife.

    All the best, CHEERS!

I'm gonna grab your quote as an opportunity to sell y'all (I'm also looking at you @ohiobrew @cavedave @offthelevel_bytheplumb) on this ale, just for the hell of it :stuck_out_tongue:.

Disclaimer: I love pales, love saisons (not the dark ones so much though :astonished:), love Belgian-styling.

I will continue to share my awe of this band with you until I am no longer in awe of them...

Non-growly vox-types, you haveta get past the first 30 seconds... lol

Ok, onto my second Halia pour...
I wasn't surprised at the price - just lookin' the bottle - very wine-like; plus Goose Island's pricey 'round here. Looking at the saisons I've reviewed on site, I'll recommend this beer by saying it's worth the one-time purchase - price considered. It's a one-off, no? Get it while you can - you can always sit on it at home.

There's no way you're not gonna dig this beer.

Not going to reinvent your saison world-view, but let's not forget, it's wine barrel-aged, wild yeast fermented, and Belgian-styled (Psst! Goose Island knows Belgians) - oh, and with peaches tossed in. FWIW, the peach element was very subtle for me... I came away with an orchard fruit-kinda sweetness under the bright wine-like tartness.

Halia brings together a lot of complementary elements. As I'm on my second pour, killing time before the games, I'm thinking it is pretty fucking exceptional. Again, for a guy like me, irresponsible but basically able to grab it without (too) much hesitation, it was totally worth it. A very aesthetically-pleasing drinking experience.

This is a big bottle, and I get two pours...
    ...AND a third, partial pour...

Almost game time - gonna prepare some snacks and such! Cheers!

Man, does Goose Island pay you commission?

I've had all the sisters, but I've had them at a bottle share I go to. Still haven't made the purchases on any of them, but I can say they are all excellent. Look out for Gillian, I liked it a lot more than Halia, and Halia is my second favorite sister. Also, I didn't get a whole lot of peach from Halia either.

I'll be back later with a new local brew. Until then, keep up the entertaining reviews!

    NEW IMPERIAL STOUT SUNDAY

On my own for this bleak and blustery NBS. I got my work done around the house plus got some cooking done for our 9 month old for the week. He has quite the palate, the kid even loves hummus and guacamole. Anyway, now its time for me and my palate.

I just have to say, I love Sierra Nevada. An incredible brewery overall, not to mention incredibly consistent. I buy more of their beer than I do any other brewery. Hoping you all like your new beer as much as I'm liking mine, cheers!

It's a new one for me. And it might be the perfect sippin' beer. So, so much good dark malt and balanced with a classic chunk of Sierra Nevada-infused hops. I know it's old hat for a lot of BAs, but man, is it good!

I liked Halia quite a bit (I believe I had it for a NBS thread), but I didn't really get the peaches flavor. Very nice beer, though, and worth the price of admission for a treat (not as a regular beer).

I look forward to this thread all week. I even saved all the new incredible beers I bought yesterday so I could try some of them today. First up, a stranger to me, although probably not to you...New Stout Sunday with Oskar Blues Ten FIDY.

I must be doing things wrong; this beer tastes metallic! Oh...I should pour it in the glass.

Admittedly, the coffee came first, and Ten FIDY is claiming the role of hair of the dog today. I might have overdone things a little last night.

So far, so good: the beer has a tremendous look. It's quite tasty, too; I can see why people rave about it. It makes a solid breakfast stout, but it's just sweet enough that it could be a dessert stout, too. I don't like it quite as much as Narwhal, but it's not lacking in the quality department. Where this beer really shines is in the mouthfeel; absolutely fantastic: thick, chewy, and just enough balance.

The first of many brews today, friends. Cheers!
