    Good Evening New Stout Sunday-ers!
Was looking forward to trying this since Friday! Not too disappointed.
Pours a jet black body, shows dark brown on the edges when held up to the light. Light tan head, very little of it too; dissipates very quickly
Slight aromas of coffee and roasted malts and a little chocolate.
Tastes pretty close to their Schnickelfritz milk stout with the cherries. Starts out sweet with a decent amount of coffee on the finish.
Very thin mouthfeel, but full flavor of coffee overall.
Overall, a pretty decent coffee stout; just needs a little more work to boost up the body and add a little more carbonation. Still a tasty offering from a new local brewery.
    Cheers!

Late in the day for me, but it is "family away at Disney Sunday" time to booze it up. I'm having the Ballast Point Fathom IPL.

Pours golden like a good lager should, smells like a delicious pine tree, and tastes crisp with a little hit of hops. This can go down quick. And well it really did.

Rainy all day yesterday, but the sun made a big time appearance today, so I did some chores outside earlier, and then fired up the grill tonight for a couple nice filets with asparagus, Au gratin potatoes, and a green salad.

I chose the new imperial IPA Illinois from Goose Island for NBS today. Been looking for an excuse to try it, and this seemed as good as any...

I liked it quite a bit, but it bordered on a bit sweet with too much malt backbone for me...

So last week I did manage to get a new beer in, but was too busy and too tired to review it or get through writing up for the New Beer Sunday for last week. I had Hoppin' Frog BORIS The Crusher, which was pretty darn good. This week I managed to stay a little less busy, and had Green Flash West Coast IPA. I've been getting the baby room ready, have a little over 2 months to finish (along with another fun house project!) Can't wait for my grad school class to be over with, I'm enjoying learning, but not enjoying being busy with it when I have other important things to do. I hope you all are having a wonderful NBS! Cheers!

    New Saison Sunday

    Greetings NBS,

Southern CT was a wash out this weekend. Minus a few hours we capitalized on briefly Saturday morning, it has been windy & rainy (March = worst month in New England).

The chores are done, I'm ready for work, the family is happy and now it's time for NBS. Given that spring is flirting with us (I guess), I thought it was time to break out this new brew from Southern Tier:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/110165/?ba=CHADMC3

If you can look for what ST was trying to accomplish within the style I think the average rating is a bit low. The more I sample it the more I like it (an 8% saison is pretty aggressive too).

Hope everyone has a good week.

    New Hefeweizen Sunday

Greetings NBS! The weather is warming and I'm glad to be watching opening day baseball. Spring is here and after trying an awesome home-brewed smoked DIPA from my friend, I was craving a refreshing wheat beer to enjoy while cooking/eating dinner. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any Weihenstephaner at the grocery store, so I settled on this:

Real solid and hit the spot, and I can't believe this was my first bottle. Spot on for the style with nice banana/clove flavors and a refreshing finish. My full review is here:

    Cheers and enjoy the week!

Good Sunday evening my friends. As usual, watching The Walking Dead and trying a new stout. Tonight it's Southern Tiers Creme Brulee.
My first sniff rewarded me with straight butterscotch, and the first sip followed suit. A few more sips in it warmed and the flavor mellows and adds undertones of coffee and smoke. A nice thick mouthfeel adds to the dessert beer aspect and creates an enjoyable experience.
Overall very tasty as a dessert beer, but I would like the vanilla toned down just a bit in order to make it more of an anytime sipper. Cheers.

Hey NBS'ers, its New DIPA Sunday.

Day started with some sunshine and moved into the mid 50's as we left the house to attend a friends wedding. What a way to spend the day, celebrating with friends and enjoying life. Was hoping I would have enough gas in the tank to post today because i do look forward to this thread and the chance to have a new beer and have been sitting on this one for a week. Well here goes, onto On The Wings Of Armegeddon.
Pours a rich golden color with a monster head that settles nicely with some thick lacing. Aromas of biscuit, pine, grapefruit and some mustiness. Taste is bitter grapefruit with a big malt presence, a little cracked pepper on the tongue. finish is dry with a resinous quality. Medium to full body with decent carbonation. A pretty good showcase of falconers flight hops and very well hidden 9.2% ABV.

Hope everybodys day was a good one and until next week, cheers everyone

    New Saison Sunday

Hello everyone! It's been a few weeks since I was last here, less that I haven't had new beers available to me and more that I just haven't had the time to sit down and review them on a Sunday night. So tonight I'm opening up a Crooked Stave Vieille Saison. Received in a trade from @BeerKangaroo, I've been excited to try this one for a while.

So what did I think? Was pretty good. A little watery but not too much to make it undrinkable. I loved the smell, and it looked gorgeous. Was expecting more tartness, but was still nice. I'd drink this again.

    Later tonight, KBS NBS.

    New Saison Sunday
I woke up this morning with temps in the '20's and opted out of my run and decided to go to the gym for a bit. As the day warmed up into the '40's and the weather cooperating. My son and I went for a firewood run out in the woods. We ended up getting a decent stockpile that I will be looking forward to busting my axe into within the next several days or after I get back from vacation to AZ.

    So the beer is this:

I sometimes get nervous around Anchorage brews. But this one left me fairly impressed as everything was combined evenly, enough Brett/funk/tart for me, the wine-like qualities were tamed enough for me, and the spices helped to assist an absolute perfect combination that I wouldn't mind having again for perhaps a pairing with some food. I could definitely see a good seafood dish with this. Well, anyways, I think I said enough. Cheers NBS-ers!

Well, I went and hung with some friends to watch the SD-LA opener, which involved several brews, a few of which were new. I'll post reviews of a few next week.

If I may be allowed a brief personal statement: We all get bombarded with request for donations to a lot of worthy causes. Obviously, we all can't donate to everything. Given the events a few miles south of me, I've made a donation here:
http://www.ndsd.net/ . If ya can't donate to these guys, I understand. I am reasonably certain there is a similar organization near you. Maybe you get hurricanes, or blizzards, or tornadoes, or flooding, whatevs. We all choose what's important to us, all I'm asking is to maybe pass by a pint or two, choose the local group that suits you, and, maybe throw 'em a bone. Thanks guys, Cheers!

    New (Baltic) Beer Sunday
    Greetings Matt, et al.
Weather here in Southern California was stunning today, and even into the dusk. Mostly sunny, with some scattered clouds. Strong sun that warmed the skin, but a cool breeze to balance things out. Probably hit 70, but i'm not sure.

Great dim sum today with family. No beer there. But now that I'm watching March Madness, it's time for a beer or four. First up, Samuel Adam's Whitewater IPA. Pretty good. Comes off more as what nowadays we're calling a "sessionable" IPA. Hop notes were a bit on the piney side/meets a hint of spice--pepper? But not strong.
    Not bad.

    Second was http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2447/112346/?show_ratings=Y
Coronado/Cigar City's collab on a Baltic Porter named Jurata. Granted, Baltic porters are hit and miss for me. I used to find more that I liked. This one falls somewhere in the middle. Has the smoke, medium body, a hint of nuttiness?, and ever so light hint of peatiness. Not over- or underwhelming. Kinda like Michigan State's performance tonight. I'm sad to see Izzo and the Spartan's out, and not just because it's the final nail in my bracket's coffin...
Loved watching Payne and Appling these last few years. Wish them well.
