I took a trip into NYC(which is luckily a 10 minute bus ride from my house) with my girlfriend to do some "shopping" or at least that's what I told her we were going for
We did do a little bit of shopping but then I dragged her to pony bar where I had...
Peekskill Simple Sour for only $4 on happy hour...prices that cheap are nearly non existent for craft beer in NYC.
I really enjoyed this easy drinking sour, very refreshing. I'll be ordering it whenever I see it on tap in the city

New Bavarian Hefe Weizen Sunday (week 484)

Greetings NBS ers, beauty day here on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Work today was supposed to be my retirement day, but of course we knew that my boss wasn't gonna let that happen with the busy season starting and nobody with any clue waiting in the wings. He gave me all the days off I need though, so there is that, but another two months of work is gonna suck.

Drinking a great one here, not the usual clove and banana bomb this style so often is, or the thin and one dimensional version also common, this one has some bite and substance without being syrupy. Digging Ayinger and not really missing having a Great American Beer in my glass. Cheers!

Decided to go with a second new one tonight - Lost Abbey's Deliverance Ale. I had a small sample at this year's EBF in Boston, and liked it enough to pick up a bottle while I was in the city.

I was a bit disappointed tonight. This bottle is nearly flat. Almost no carbonation what so ever. The taste is fantastic but it severely needs some bubbles....

Poured from the swing top bottle into a wheat ale glass.

Big fluffy and uniform creamy off white and vanilla yellow, eggy looking head. Cloudy and deep rusted bronze body and fairly opaque if a little hazy. Creamy retention slowly settling, can't see much carbonation through the glass since it's quite dark for a body color.

I am loving this nose. Big fruity esters, and spritzy wine like aromas. Hints of lemon, and spicy classic clove characters. Bready caramel and toffee sweetness round out, lots of hinting cinnamon, powdered sugar and toast. Really impressive.

With that angle coming, I thought I was in for something really unique. In the end we have just classic hefe. Palate fills with a bright fruited sense of lemon, then finishes with some good hinting banana. Lightly bodied on the palate, and minimal carbonated, but some of the lightness causes some of the malts to wash out.

Overall pretty neat one, but comes out like a classic in it's realm.

    ----------------------------------------------

Such a great day to be having a hefe out there, the sun is bright and shining and my wife and I bought put about 60 pots in the ground. Man I hope they don't die, or the deer get them first, or whatever... just please live

And I got another swing top bottle for homebrew bottling.

    Cheers all!

    New Imperial Stout Sunday-
    [IMG]

I admit that I have a soft spot for beers that are what they say they are, pure and unadorned; I'm an Imperial Stout, dammit!. That being said, ultimately the experience has to speak for itself.

This one presents a lot of what you'd expect- bitter chocolatey mocha, dark fruits, blackstrap molasses, licorice, warming alcohol, and plenty of bitterness to keep it all in check. Unfortunately, it comes across as being disjointed and out of whack- and the alcohol and blackstrap (which should be supporting players at best) are leading the pack. It winds up being an OK beer that should be better; but sometimes it's not what you say, it's how you say it.

ETA- I guess I just wrote a review, so I made it official:

A bit late to the NBS world today. I also prefer having a new beer first and given that I've had more than a few today here goes.

Central Waters is a very new brewery to me. Their distro seems to have exploded here this year and I really enjoyed their bba stout and still have a few bottles to see how some age does to it. I also look forward to trying some of there other releases.

I grabbed a single bottle of slainte to give it a whirl. Very bready and malt forward on this one. The scotch aspect is a little lacking for my taste. It's there just not as much as I want it to be. Not my favorite but it won't shy away from trying the rest of their offerings. I would rank it lower than the 86 ba score,

Yeah- the mp3 player is a nice convenience, useful for travel or while on the treadmill (that sort of thing...), but CDs are superior in all other applications. Especially while driving! Jeez...

    @TongoRad @Shroud0fdoom @Ramana
I am a CD junkie. Others collect vinyl; I collect CDs. Ignoring any MP3s I may have stored, I have around 2000 CDs.

I just got in Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb Sun, and absolutely loved the craftsmanship that went into the package. I think that's a big reason I keep getting more CDs: the personal, physical touch, the artistry beyond the music.

.......and to stay OT here on NBS, I'm not drinking a new beer right now, but I'm slowly making my way through Hoptimum. If you haven't had it yet, allow me to recommend it as your next NBS offering!

    Greeting NBS'ers,
Been getting a little hotter in and around chi-town the last few weekends so we know summer is on its way. Feels good to be out in the sunshine again and taking the dog for long walks, grilling scrumptous dinners out-doors and as Utopia Jane mentioned hanging out with our feathered friends. Thanks @Tauroe for my nbs contribution this evening and onward to Allagash House Beer.

Pours a hazy blonde with a respectable head & lace. Aroma is spicy with hints of banana, light cookie malt, and a touch of Belgian yeast. Plenty of rindy citrus, delicate pale malt sweetness. Nice and clean, lightly bitter. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Very refreshing with just enough complexity and only 4.5% Abv. Not my go to style but could see myself enjoying another on a hot summer day.

Cheers and Good Health to All, Arlingtonjoe

This is the reason why I love CDs vs the next wave of multimedia. I still have Cassettes and some vinyl. Having the album makes it more real to me. You get a glimpse into the artist's philosophy.

Not trying to be a smartass, but you know that Scottish style or Scotch ales (not necessarily the same thing) aren't actually aged in scotch barrels, right? Don't know this one but seems like it isn't barrel-aged.

Good evening BAs! As none of you are aware, my personal goal is to review a beer a day as my breakfast beer. Since I signed on with BA in Oct 2013 I've pretty much made my goal although some of the beers I've reviewed were repeats from earlier ticks in my data base. Today's beer was new to both my dbase and my taste buds. Ayinger Weizenbock is a decently tasty beer but nothing special. I found it to be rather a light-weight flavor wise, lacking the great maltiness of the bock and dopplebock styles as well as the bulk of the yeasty phenolics of the hefeweizens. It is still a good beer to pound, one I might buy again if I don't realize I've already ticked it, or if only BMCs are on tap. The review is at http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/39/37192/?ba=Ozzylizard.

Hoptimum, like Narwhal, is a beer that far outweighs its ratings for me. It may not be the best in class, but damned if I don't love it.
