Good morning brothers of barely wine and sisters of shwarzbier! Welcome to New Beer Sunday. Today is the day for you to TRY a new beer and TELL us about it. Post pics and your reviews but make sure to include something about the beer. That is what distinguishes this thread form the "other " very popular thread here on BA. Please feel free to melt our faces with prose or with other world wide web wakiness and music goes so well with beer. This thread is distinct because it is the longest running thread on BA and that's thanks to all of you for keeping it informative fresh and fun. I especially like how we all take a moment to "jaw" about our week and our lives , the weather , the kids . . . the BEER!

I am coming up on two personal milestones in the next week. First I am celebrating my one year anniversary on Beer Advocate in a few days. Thank you all for being so amazing. Thank you for making a website that is full of daily conversation, lots of participation, special events like Drink with the Duvel Day over on my other favorite thread WBAYDN, and a good old fashioned community spirit that I have not seen elsewhere. You know when I joined I have to admit I was looking for Utopia and I think I may have found it.

My second milestone is reaching my 500th unique beer. I never thought that would happen. If you had asked me when I first started tasting beer, I would have said with a good deal of skepticism, that tasting that many unique beers was next to impossible. =) Now I say IT"S POSSIBLE. It's even probable. Everything I know about beer I owe to all of you. I owe it to the threads where people took the time to repeat themselves and talk about beer until all the questions are asked and all the curiosity is satisfied. As a matter of fact I am reading a book by our very own @patto1ro entitled Decoction! What an amazing blog he has.

OK let's get on with NEW BEER SUNDAY! Cheers to all of you. Peace love and maltiness,
    Maria (aka utopiajane)

Wait a minute - it's 1030 and I'm the second post? (Unless someone else posts while I'm typing!) I've already been outside trimming brush for a couple of hours and run a load of laundry. My wife hasn't emptied her suitcases from her quilting cruise yet so I still have a few loads to go.

Today's new beer is this nasty piece of work:

I'm not at all pleased with this - flavorless, lumpy, crappy appearance, virtually no aroma - the only thing resembling a DIPA is the palate - medium, watery, lively carbonation. My Flying Dog glass is insulted. This should be a drain pour, but I'm too f-ing cheap and may have a martyr complex as well. I don't know that I've ever seen a twist-off cap on a bomber before. I try to support local (or state) breweries when possible, but this beer definitely sucks. It's most likely contract brewed - shame, shame! Needless to say, I won't be buying any more of these.

    NEW BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

Hey NBSers, looks to be a beautifully sunny day here in south central PA. We took a short walk this morning and I'll get some yard work done before our afternoon plans. I get to go to the wedding of a friend my wife hasn't seen or spoken to in 6 years or so. (coughcoughgiftgrabcoughcough). Okay cynicism aside it is a nice day celebrate a wedding outside.

Anyway, I opened this before midnight but finished it after. That counts right? This was strange but tasty, hoping my buddy brings me a few for the cellar.

***New American Pale Wheat Ale Sunday!!!

The top of the morning to Maria and the rest of the NBS crew!

It's not much of a near summer Sunday; the high is only supposed to get to 57F. Really? REALLY??

My new beer is from Odell. Another 750ml corked and caged bottle, Jaunt. A weird concoction and I can't say I fancy it. Here's my review:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/267/121106/?ba=Bitterbill

From the look of the beer in my glass, I was hoping the smell and taste would stack up:

But they didn't. C'est La Vie. Oh well.:slight_frown:

Bitterbill went old school Bitterbill here....:grinning:

First off, on Friday I got to try this tremendous entry into Duvel's Tripel Hop series
    [IMG]

Then, mad props to @LeperJim for making sure I got my hands on it in the first place, with a great DWTDD thread on 6/6

    [IMG] [IMG]
This morning, I started my day with a DIPA from Coronado.

Then I did the laundry :slight_frown:

    And now I'm having breakfast!
And yeah, it's the same shit I was eating last night, and yeah, I will most definitely eat stuff like this for breakfast
(when it comes to food and beer, the only rule is... (*c'mon, you know what comes next*))

    [IMG] [IMG]
P.S.: I post most of my food and beer pairings in Sharing Your Pairing, with a bunch of other food and beer-loving types, in a food and beer thread on the site found over here :sunglasses:

    So anyway...
    [IMG] [IMG]
I reviewed the Sock Knocker DIPA from Coronado Brewing out in CA...

    ...and finished it...

    Cheers, NBS!

Happy NBS on a lovely Sunday morning.

I just got back from the store where I was able to pick up the New Glarus Scream IIPA that was released this week. They changed the recipe from years past to use WI hops. It is still just as good as I remember with plenty of pine, grapefruit bitterness and other citrus. The new twist is that I think it has some tropical notes such as mango and kiwi. I also remember the old recipe having a bit more sweetness. This is a big, hoppy IIPA.

Good morning BA! Another slow-soaking rainy day in central OK, which is greatly appreciated. In my continuing quest to try any and all things Prairie, I am enjoying a Wine Noir. The label says aged in red wine barrels, but doesn't specify whether they were 1850's Chateau Lafite or MadDog 20/20. So, I dunno. Slightly chilled, poured into a stemmed wine glass, it is the color of cola or espresso, with a nice tan head that fades quickly but lingers, providing nice lacing with each swallow. At first, it has a sourness to it, which is OK, but I wasn't ready for it. Half way through the glass, just as I was gettin' used to it, the wine flavor took over. Not a wino meself, but it was nice. The last two sips were more like a roasty stout with an almost Cabernet overtone. Complex, if ya ask me. Many different layers of flavor. Didn't notice the 10% until I stood up. These guys make great beer. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Hi HO NBS'ers! I had some beer this morning. I might have a little more as it is one lovely day. Good to sit outside and appreciate the lovliness of the leaves and the sweetness of the flowers. This is my first beer from clown shoes but it won't be my last - space cake DIPA. Delightful! Please enjoy the entertainment.

Good morning, fellow NBSers! Thanks, Maria, for getting us started.

First up, I'm going to cheat a little bit and highlight a couple new beers for me from this weekend. I won't get into crazy details or links; just a brief description, a pic, and a plug for my local nano-brewery.

    Beer'd 8 Days a Week

    Beer'd Hobbit Juice

Both pics from yesterday. 8 Days a Week is a single-hop Citra APA, and let me tell you: it's a home run. I haven't had Pseudo Sue, but I have had Zombie Dust, as well as numerous other Citra-forward IPAs and APAs, and other fantastic APAs (e.g. HF Edward). So, I've got some comparisons to work with....and it's excellent.

It's not hard to make a single-hop Citra ale shine; what makes ZD and Edward special as APAs is the malt balance and mouthfeel (especially for anything HF). That's what I noticed about this beer: full (for the style), balanced flavor and feel.

Hobbit Juice is a single-hop Nelson Sauvin DIPA, and it matches with my previous experiences with Nelson highlighted ales. It's smooth, with abundant juicy and peppery notes. Hides the nearly 10% ABV quite well.

Anyway, it's time to move on to the truly new beer of this Sunday! Courtesy of @JayORear I share with you an afternoon with Noble Ale Works Rakau Showers.

First time trying out my Beer'd TeKu glass!

Surprisingly thin head; beautiful, almost pulpy lemon-yellow body. Soft, although not exactly subtle, aroma, full of tropical fruit and citrus peel.

The taste lives up to it, in all respects: a very complex single-hop, lending notes of lemongrass, pepper, mango, tangerine, grapefruit peel, and a slightly stale, earthy dank sweetness. That last bit ends up being a bit of a put-off for me; it's dank in a musty, malty way, quite different from the way Citra and Mosaic come across. Feel is lively and refreshing.

This was a tough beer for me to review, as the Rakau hop profile ends up being good, but not exactly toward my liking - whereas, on the other hand, I feel that the beer is still very well crafted. I tried to be fair to both the brewer and my taste buds. I dinged Taste just under 4, based on my personal preference, but gave points back via Overall, as a nod to the craftsmanship.

A little surprising to have a +rDev on that, but I'll still sleep well at night. Or at least, not any worse.

    Cheers, NBSers!
