Good almost-still-morning all you Idolizers of Eisbier and Fanatical Forces of Flanders. Happy New Beer Sunday, and Happy Fathers' day to all the Dads out there.

Just want again to thank utopiajane for filling in last week. Good job, Maria!

Beauty day here on the ridge. Still working at the recycle facility, as boss is giving me all the days off I need, so why not? Still looking forward to retirement. Lots of trees saved today, lotta new petrochemicals and metals will not be needed, lotsa glass given back to industry, all thanks to the efforts of my community, and hopefully all of you as well. Thanks to all those who give a damn.

Won't be joining you with a new beer today, and next four weeks, sadly, as I have Lyme again and Doxycycline doesn't like sharing the stage with beer. I will be reading all the posts though, and sharing vicariously your enjoyments.

Today is the day, and this is the place. Why not TRY a new beer today? TELL us about it. What do you taste, smell, and think? Do you LOVE it? Why? What do you love about it? Not your "cup of tea "(love mixing metaphors heheh)? What didn't you care for in the beer? Your review or a description that tells a story is greatly appreciated by all. Feel free to crush our craniums (in rock fashion of course ) with linked review, pics, videos, and other world wide web wackiness to enhance our virtual tasting session.

Thanks to everyone for their participation, thus making NBS fresh, fun, and informative.

Good afternoon NBS'ers and Happy Fathers Day to all you who are dads out there. Dave I am glad to see you back and I was happy to fill in.I hope you feel better. No beer?

This week was unusually chilly here in upstate new york but I don't really mind too much. So, instead of enjoying the weather I found myself indoors reading a lot this week. There was a nice little write up in the local papers this week about all the local beer we have to enjoy and I am hoping to get to the couple of places that I have not been yet.

I hope you will all permit me to cheat a tiny little bit this week. Last night I tasted and ticked a beer and today I reviewed it. I figured you would not mind if I put that beer on NBS today as it is the one I had and it is technically new to me. I would not have gone out to get it unless I thought it was worthy of an NBS post.

Anyway I love Victory. When ever I am in the aisle making a decision I know I can count on them to deliver a well made beer and to always have a bunch of old favorites on the shelf. This is Mad Kings Weiss. I thought it was exceptional.

Pours nice and hazy. Golden yellow with a good head and leaves a bit of lace. A bit of wheat grain on the nose with a good soft sweetness like a sugar cookie. Lemon citrus and a hint of banana. Clove and spice and a bit of funk from yeast. Lovely palate with a light creamy soft body. Mellow but has so much fruit. Lemon citrus, the banana and even something a bit tropical. Tart. Clove and spice laying out in the background. That malt is the star of this show with it's perfectly dry creaminess. A slightly bitter finish on this one and I don't see how you can ever have enough of it.

    Tremendous.

Happy New Hefeweizen Sunday and Cheers!

First off happy Father's Day to all the BA dads out there.

This is a treat for me as this is from my first trip to Night Shift Brewing (not sure why it took so long). I of course picked up some bottles (will be reviewing at a later date) but I also grabbed my first draft/growler fill from them. Here we have Whirlpool, their take on an american pale ale.

On an unrelated note, sorry to here about the Doxycycline @cavedave. That stuff tore me a new one when I was on it and I would not wish that on anyone. Hope you feel better soon.

    Greetings NBSer's,
and a special thanks and get well soon to our host, CaveDave. Happy Father's Day to all you fathers.
Sunny now but rain periods for the past few days and the week ahead. Summer is here and it is very green around these parts and I like it.
With the jacked up humidity I'm going to partake in a style that has recently been popular - it's a good time to be a beer lover.

Good afternoon and happy New Hefe Sunday! Today's beer is the Dunkel version of a Hefeweissbier I quite enjoy: Spaten Franziskaner Dunkel Weissbier.

A good German Bier deserves a good German background.

This is good but not quite great. Tasting notes: dominant banana (especially in the aroma), dark bread, wheat, caramelized brown sugar, slightly sour overripe fruit, and nuts. If I could get it on draft this Summer, I certainly wouldn't complain.

Cheers, all! and all the best to my buddy, the OP. I'll raise an extra glass high in the sky for you.

Nice day in Casper so I went out for breakfast and then picked up a Growler of Lander Brewing Gun Cream Stout. I'm not surprised that I liked it as I did sample it before the Growler was filled.

Though I have no pictures of my pour, Abita's Andygator. It's not the freshest, but at 8%, I see it as less of an issue. I always relegated Abita to "good but not great." However, 3/4 of the way into my 22 oz. bottle I'm starting to taste more and more flavors of this very drinkable doppelbock. I think this is the way to enjoy this beer, one large bottle, one sitting. Pace yourself. Bread, malt, caramel, a touch of spice. Mmm.

Thanks to CaveDave for kicking us off this Sunday. Lyme Disease has hit hard here in the midwest in the past few years-- it's no joke, so sending you all my best for a quick and complete recovery

I am enjoying a west coast DIPA from Bootlegger's Brewery, Knuckle Sandwich, courtesy of @JayORear. Thick, syrupy, sugary maltiness that coats the tongue and the throat in very pleasant way. Big, juicy fruit--I get some grapefruit, tangerine and also a a nice shot of lemon. This beer is what would come out if Palate Wrecker and Permanent Funeral hooked up and had a baby. I am enjoying it tremendously, but questioning whether the 10% ABV, which is well hidden taste-wise, was a good choice for an early afternoon quaff--I may need a nap! Happy, hoppy Sunday BAs and cheers to all the BA dads out there :grinning:

Good afternoon and Happy Fathers Day fellow NBS-ers!
Finally getting a chance to try out this offering from Dogfish Head: 75 minute IPA (formerly Johny Cask)
Poured a beautiful golden orange color with a sick amount of frothy white head
Left an incredible amount of lacing in the glass
    [IMG]
Since it is a 4 month old bottle I am getting the faintest aroma of hops, some pine and citrus with malty sweetness
    [IMG]
Still has a great bitterness with a nice malty sweetness on the end. Bottle conditioning still produced a great amount of carbonation.
Overall, I think this falls right in the middle (where it's supposed to) of the bitterness of the 60 minute and the what I thought was over-maltiness of the 90 minute. One I will definitely pick up again when I find it!

    Cheers!
    Here's to a speedy recovery @cavedave !!

Hi again. I'm back. This is my second beer today and my last of the Heater Allen I was able to get. Boy did I love their maibock and their pils.
I was only able to procure 3 of them and this one is their Rauch Dunkel. Terribly thin. ??? I had their pils and their maibock and neither of those were thin. I liked it but not as much as the other two. I also felt that this beer was deliberately trying to not take any chances and the smoke promised by the word "rauch" was not really delivered. Drank tamely.

    Cheers!

    Happy New Rauch Dunkel Sunday

    4.3 rating/+0.5% over average

My rating numbers are a mix of what my amateur mind thinks is "style" and what I like/don't like, so forget all them: just buy this beer and drink it if you haven't. It's got to be the best Belgian/American hybrid I've tried so far. It really shines in a couple of typical Belgian areas (look, dryness/tartness of the saison, mouthfeel) and shines with those good American hops (fruity and bitter notes).

The percolation of this brew is fantastic. Look at it in the bottle!

I wasn't jostling it around or shaking it, I swear!

lighting sucks on this one, but you get the idea ... foam

Bilbo Baggins might like this brew with some of these:

There's so much more on this label ... Prairie Artisans create works of art inside and outside the bottle. Good stuff.

And a throw-in extra (my reverse blackened salmon turned out pretty good):

Greetings dudes and dudettes from different daddies! Hope you are all enjoying Father's Day and Happy NBS!

I had no doubt that Utopiajane and Cavedave would carry the flag and keep things rolling along here without me.

Weather in Central OH has been sunny, beautiful, and unseasonably cool. That is supposed to change this week but we'll take it and enjoy the windows being wide open and the unusually cool-like spring breezes wafting through the homestead.

Hope you all have a great day!

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

    Good afternoon fellow NBS’ers!

And a very special Sunday it is… 1 year ago yesterday I became a father and yesterday we hosted a pretty cool Barney themed party for the little one. Today we are still celebrating him turning 1 year old along with father’s day while watching the World Cup and watching him open his presents. Yesterday was an adventure as we planned the party to be outside in our front yard and it was raining all morning – fortunately though, the rain disappeared right on time and didn’t come back ‘til after the party – phew! On to the beer then - I’ve been saving this very special beer for this very special Sunday for a while and boy is it a treat. Today I am slaying the Green Dragon and having a Bourbon County Rare for the first and quite likely for the last time.

    Bourbon County Rare
Opening this beer was exciting in itself – after everything I’ve heard and everything I’ve read about it I was stoked! The bottle was cellared and briefly refrigerated – bottled in 2010. Upon opening it a faint smell of sweet bourbon invaded the air around me – yum. The pour is jet black , les viscous composition than I expected and it formed no head, just a very thin ring around the glass that’s mocha in color. The taste is smooth and sweet – a complex series of flavors predominantly of sweet bourbon, molasses, fudge and some coconut with a very faint roast coffee finish, simply beautiful. Almost no carbonation. I’ve read this beer is “past its prime” – well, while I haven’t had it before I can tell you this is a phenomenal beer and does live up to the hype. I’ve had beers that I’ve considered past their prime before and common traits are overpowering sweetness, no pronounced flavor or character other than perhaps dark dried fruit and molasses, etc – none of these are present in this beer’s composition.

Cheers NBS, BA and a very happy Father’s Day to ALL!

I figured the Duvel would appreciate being paired up with this devilish steed: the fabled, rare Blaecorn Unidragon! A beast so wild, only the ***** of Babylon can ride! A nightmare creature which sucks in the light of the stars, making the night itself seem weak and timid. A...oh. It's a beer. Yeah.

Honestly, this is yet another big beer that Clown Shoes absolutely crushes. It takes some of the best aspects of my favorite imperial stouts, blending them all into one. It smells like Founders Imperial Stout, and reminds me of FIS, Alesmith Speedway Stout, Ten-FIDY, and Narwhal. High praise? You're damn right!

Tons of chocolate, fist-fulls of roasted barley, and some green earthy hops, all tossed in with a banana-tinged yeast presence.

I am shocked to have such a high +rDev on this beer; I don't know what everyone else is missing! Don't go into this brew unless you're ready to tangle with a beast of epic proportions!

Oh hey Matt, nice of you to drop in today. Happy Fathers Day!

Am I drinking a bareyewine when it is 80 and humid out? Of course because I want to be a part of NBS! Spent a nice relaxing night away from the kids a hotel with my wife on Saturday eve. I've been busy today, but have made time for a couple of beers.

My new beer today is from Lakefront. They brought back Beer Line barleywine after many years. I am sipping it while sitting on my back porch. It has nice flavors of dark fruits, dark sugars, raisins, plumbs, and a slight bitter, spicy finish. I think that it will develop into an even better beer and smooth out with some age, but it is still good right now.
