Hello all...my second foray into New a Beer Suds-day...

Gorgeous day here in MA after a lousy weather week. Did some more detective work on the motorsickle and after exhausting everything I can do, she will be headed to the dealership. As my Dad just said "it ain't doin ya any good sittin' in the driveway, is it?" Bless his heart... The missus celebrated another anniversary of her 29th birthday. Had a great dinner with the kids Saturday night...odd little restaurant that has multinational cuisine. Vindaloo shrimp for me, shrimp korma for her, chili chicken for the boy, and grilled chicken caprese for the daughter. Horrible tap list so iced tea all round.

Father's Day and man want steak. Found porterhouse slabs on sale at BJs and despite a five alarm flare up, perfect medium rare....simple salt and pepper. If it needs steak sauce, it isn't worth eating. Oven roasted taters, steamed broccoli.

So...the beah As much of a Jacks Abby fanboy as I am, never had Mass Rising, so today was the day. Actually,I have not quite made up my mind about it. Love the grapefruit...they nailed that. The sweetness was there, but subdued some, the bitter finish snuck up on me, but wasn't a huge wallop upside the head. Of course, no bottled date so I have no idea of the age. It poured with an enormous foaming head that hung around like meringue. Seriously...stood up and you coulda torched that thing. Tasty enough, but I am not sure if I like it as much as Hop Union, honestly. So I am gonna sit the fence a bit and say good, not great, but reserving final judgement until I try another bottle and try it where I know it is fresh. I'm not one to worry that my beer is more than thirty minutes old, but I'd like to know the difference on this puppy.

    New Pilsner Sunday

Greetings all, and Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there. One day I hope to be half as great a father as my dad has been to me. I unfortunately did not get to see my dad today, but will be seeing him on Tuesday when I head up to Rhode Island on a home finding trip. Not only will I get to spend a few days with my old man, but it's great to be able to say I'll be moving back near the family up north permanently in just over a month. A year in Louisiana has been fun, but it's tough being away from your entire family long-term.

Today I took my first crack at Abita's new Seersucker Summer Pils. It's light, crisp and has the characteristics you'd expect from a pilsner. Not my favorite, but also not a go-to style for me. One thing I'd say is this would be taken up quite a bit were it in cans. Abita has a canning line, yet for reasons I don't understand only cans their Amber, Jockamo IPA, and Purple Haze. Clearly their biggest sellers, but not beers I go to often. With the Louisiana lifestyle, and focus on outdoor activities, it surprises me that Abita doesn't can all of their offerings. Then again, nobody asked me! Anyway, this new pilsner is worth a shot on a hot day.

    Greetings felllow NBS'ers,
Happy Fathers Day were applicable and Get well @cavedave, looking forward to your breakout beer reviews when you are able. Kind of moist today in Middle Earth with alot off clouds, then sun and more clouds and sun,you get the idea. The rain is holding off for know and once I made the mad dash to the local hardware store for a fresh tank of propane to replace the one that puked while warming up the grill, dinner eventually got served. Got a Stufz burger press for Fathers Day and I am kind of Physced to use it next weekend and will let you all know how it turns out.

Thanks @dsigmon for this next brew and on to New Gose Sunday.

Pours a pale hazy yellow with a moderate white head that settles quickly. Aromas of citrus, grain and a biscuity funk. Wow is that tart. Reminds me of lemonheads candy, hint of wheat on the finish with a touch of salt. Light body with decent carbonation. Acidic with a dry finish and oddly refreshing. This was the first time trying a Gose and probably wont be the last.
    Cheers, Joe

Happy Fathers Day, We went to Armsby Abbey for a brunch.
Great food, great list. Enjoyed for the first time,
    BFM La Mandragrore, on draft.
    Cheers all.

Poured from draft at Armsby Abbey into a modified tulip.

A - Dark color, creamy white head, delicate carbonation. Lacing lasts forever.
S - Dried fruit, fresh broadleaf tobacco, chocolate and plum. A hint of citrus and toffee.
T - Delicate, fruit not to sweet. A slight bite, and cocoa combine.
M- Medium bodied, carbonation leaves a clean palate, rounded out with a pleasant linger of sweetness, finishes with a slight floral snap.
O - The first time I have had this, the serving was perfect, the quality is impeccable. I see this is listed as a Belgian Strong. I could support that, this is a creamy delight to be sought out.
    Cheers

I've liked that brew, and been less than impressed by it. I tend to like it beter when I approach it as a Wheatwine. YMMV.

I finally had a Velvet Merkin by Founders Brewery. Its a bad ass Oatmeal stout, aged in Bourbon Barrels. It was a huge oatmeal stout at about 8.5%, but the BB added a nice richness to the already solid Velvet Merlin that Founders produces. Very rare, and I highly recommend it to all you guys that appreciate rare BB aged brews.

Greetings fellow NBSers! Today I went to the Washington Brewers Festival, where I did a pouring shift, then a drinking shift. i spent most of my drinking time at the "Eastern Washington" tent, where I got to hit a lot of breweries that don't hit the "Wet Side" of the state. I liked the couple of samples I had from Iron Goat, and the rest as well.

I'm taking a mulligan here, not doing any reviews, just enjoying all the great beers my adopted home makes. For the record:
http://wabeerawards.com/?q=node/16 . Even though the brewery I poured for today didn't win an award, the breweries in my town, and county, did well. Cheers to Whatcom Breweries, and cheers to NBSers!

Well, this is an add-on, my friend Steve wrote this song, and I like it! I'll try to do better next week.:slight_frown:

Evening, all! The day began with a lot of rain followed by breakfast courtesy of my two girls as the sun finally made its appearance. The beer didn't begin until I was watching France crush Honduras 3-0 in the WC as I luxuriated in a homebrewed Belgian Pale Ale brewed by my next door neighbor's boyfriend. I know it says Dubbel on the bottle, but trust me, if it's hazy golden, smells and tastes like fresh banana bread and only has around 7% ABV, it's a Pale.

That was followed by a trip to the Happy Gnome to watch Argentina dispatch Bosnia-Herzegovina, 2-1 where I washed down three excellent, hot, soft pretzels and beer-cheese dip with a hearty, sixteen ounces of Steel Toe Dissent stout followed by a smaller glass of Clown Shoes Space Cake DIPA while my lovely young twosome practiced soccer with their teams.

All in all, a lovely Father's Day!
