At least this is enjoyable while the US is losing to Serbia in the FIBA...sorry if any of yall recorded it and I spoiled it.
Pretty good Belgian and I'm not a Belgian fan.

Don't know why it took so long for me to stumble upon this part of the site. While I have never participated, I am applying for dispensation this week as my Pliny arrived (I mean my wife returned from her NoCal foodie conference with a Pliny and Blind Pig in tow).

Dispensation will also allow me time to start down the slippery slope of proper glassware.

A nice fall seasonal IPA. Aromas of Wet hops, dark bready malts, and a touch of citrus. Taste follows the nose. An initial nuttiness that gets blended with sweet citrus and ends with an earthy hop bitter and rye like spice.

Update #2: Flight of the Earls needs to come with a warning label: Do Not Consume Cold!

When cold this beer was simply a mess....a straight up, hot mess. Overly smokey and just terrible.

Once warmed considerably, this beer actually becomes quite tasty. Roasty, toasty, still slightly smokey, and actually pretty damn good.

I drank a few bottles of the "original" version of this beer when it was a local beer over 40 years ago, so I guess it's not a new beer. Ballantine India Pale Ale now brewed by Miller for Pabst in MN. This is a very good IPA, not a hop bomb it's well balanced malty with a hoppy finish well worth $8.99 a 6 pack.
How does it compare to the beer from Newark 40 + years ago? I don't know. 40 years ago the aroma was seemed powerful but my nose worked a lot better than. The beer than was heavy and bitter (malty & hoppy)? In any case I wasn't looking for a better beer than and was fine drinking Rheingold and other AAl's. What a difference 40 years make!

New beer Sunday and new show Sunday.

Drinking a phalanx by modern times and watching mountain men. Enjoying both very much.

Modern times is a relatively new brewery in SD and make two of my favorite everyday beers: blazing world and fortunate island. This one is good but slightly disappointing. The beer is very juicy and slightly sweet, kinda reminds me of fresh squeezed by deschutes. Has that heavy juicy fruit flavors like peach, and orange. The beers just misses on having that wow or punch factor and the nose is a bit too mild. The back end has a really nice round bitterness and is probably their most bitter beer but not as hoppy as blazing world.

I would drink it again and recommended it but do prefer some of their other offerings more.

Not too over powering on the bourbon, warmed up nicely, good caramel and vanilla notes. See how well it ages. I do like Sucaba more definitely glad I bought this.

Like Pa-Michigander, I beg your indulgence for momentarily hijacking the thread - I'm just an NFL junkie in general and a Seahawk fan in particular (And, dude, how are you a Pack fan with a name like that? Although as a secondary fan of the Lions, I think I might get it!)

Anyway, back with Sublime # 2, and man was it ever! I hadn't even heard of Maine Beer Company until I received this beer (and a couple of others from them yet to be consumed) from ShroudOfDoom:

I grew up a Don Majikowski fan in Michigan and you never switch allegiances wherever you may live! Dislike the lions as much as, if not more than anyone.

Back to beer: If you like Another One you should really try to get your hands on their other offerings especially Lunch which is considerably easier to get than Dinner, and still damn tasty though not as good as Dinner IMO.

Probably my last new beer today as I settle in for the Packer game.

Jack's Abby Hopstitution - Aussie Rulez. A nice mix of earthy, grassy hops, grainy, and light lemons dominate the nose. I pick up hints of another fruit like aroma, maybe pear. The hop flavors are earthy, grassy, with a mild herbal, fruit like flavor that really brings it together. Notes of some light grain, sweet honeycomb malts, citrus, and lemon zest with a bitter finish.

My first pour (pic) was less hazy than my second pour. The flavor was much better with more of the sweetness I was looking for in my initial taste. Interesting how this beer settled out.

not too big a fan of their smoked porters, particularly didn't dig the last vanilla too much but this chipotle was right in my wheelhouse. you nailed it. the pepper is really a lingering aftertaste & lasting finish. i didn't see these @ my local traps, Costco of all places is where i found it & unfortunately they put it on special right as i discovered em' ($2.97 /btl) the pallet disappeared a couple of days later. only managed to score 6.

When I think of it logically, it seems to me that smoke and pepper go together better than smoke and vanilla...

I was 16 when I had my first Ballantine Ale. Then, my beer of choice was whatever my Dad had in the fridge. Ballantine Ale was an eye-opener that I did not understand until I visited England.

Finally, I'm getting to my most anticipated brew of the day. I've had some excellent beer, and some OK beer, but this one is super hyped up in my own mind.

I'm rather partial to the brews of Brouwerij Rodenbach; my first by them was the 2009 vintage oak-aged ale (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/216/74486/?ba=Roguer), and it absolutely blew me away. To this day, the Flanders Red Ales of Rodenbach are, quite simply, the most amazing beers I've ever had.

Thus, when I saw my local bottle shop got in Caractere Rouge, it immediately shot to the top of my list.

My goodness; where to start? Classic Rodenbach funk in the aroma, carrying quite a bit of sour with it. It's the type of beer that carries more depth and complexity in its aroma than other beers can even pretend to manage in their flavor.

All of the fruit promised on the label are present, with ample notes of raspberries, cranberries, and cherries (in that order). A ton of oak makes itself known, and the beer is both bracingly sour and delectably sweet. The long, sticky, sour finish will have you puckering and smacking your gums long after you've swallowed the last drop.

4.48 / +0.2% (I have fully reviewed 33 beers since the change in the BA ratings system, storing them in an Excel file. This is the highest rating I have given out in that time.)

Simply divine. The high price tag ($21.99), unfortunately, means that I won't be enjoying this too often.

Sucks when something is bought out from under you, but you still managed 6 at a pretty awesome price (I presume we're talking 22oz bombers, otherwise I'll have to reevaluate your luck!). I'd call it a win.

It may have had limited distribution, and I recall mainly the ale. I know I tried it, but honestly cannot place it in memory.
