Thing is, within a 5 minute walk there are (and I counted) 9 other bars showing the same game. I would have camped on that barstool all afternoon, had several beers, most likely happy hour food, and possibly dinner. Easy a $50-ish day.

And, I worked a 12 hour non-stop day yesterday, was on my feet and moving from 8:30a to 9:00p, dealt with big crowds, helped people have a great time. But, I'm mostly a loner, and I've pretty much had my fill of humans for the day. So yes, I'm tired, sore, and grumpy. I just wanted to chill with my NBS homies and quietly knock back a few brews. Don't mean to be a buzzkill.

New Free TapHouse Pale Ale Beer Sunday!

Today at work was suspenseful!..(sarcasm). Well the other day I was at Max's and my favorite tender gave me some brews for free. This is one of them!

Let's get to describing this masterpiece! This pours as murky as mud! Solid Brown body with a slightly off white soapy head. Ok, looks good, I guess for a pale ale. The aroma has hints of pine and slightly toasted malts. Smells decent. Let's see what this brew tastes like. This first tastes like the aroma (pine and sweet toasted malts), then fades into a huge bitter mess! This is incredibly bitter. The body is medium light and carbonation is par.

Overall: This beer isn't entertaining me at all! The bitterness is like I just took a handful of Ritalin and just stated chewing on them like bubblegum. I don't usually drain pour, but this one left me no choice! I can see why this brew is "Retired".

    Grade: E. Undrinkable.

    I'll be back!

Television is dangerous in public. It should be done mostly in the privacy of one's home. For me, the Panthers play tonight and I'll read about most of it tomorrow.

Shared with Glenn, aka Sip Cup....aroma of Belgian yeast and hops...tastes suprisingly good! Nice combo of yeast character and hops... Slight alcohol warmth....slightly cloying; not as delicate as some BIPAs...oh, look at that: 9.6%!!!

While I'm a football fan, I couldn't agree with you more about football fans. My buddies and I always make fun of the fans. Bummer that they have taken over your watering hole.

First impressions - Way too overcarbed. As you can see in the pic, there is a large fluffy white head. It doesn't stop growing and I needed to slice it off with the back side of a butter knife.

The flavor is powerful but not cloying and it doesn't linger. This is a nice one for "pumpkinheads"

Greetings and Happy New Beer Sunday #500. A bit cool, crisp and breezy here in eastern South Dakota. Feels like fall; a good time for a Porter! I had a taste at a beer fest a couple of weeks ago and was looking forward to a full serving. Saved this one for today.
Zombie Monkie from Tallgrass Brewing is a very tasty brew. Has a lovely aroma: dark chocolate, raisins, maybe some brown bread and a hint of underlying sweetness. The first sip is loaded with bitter chocolate and roast coffee flavors. I also get some raisin, maybe a hint of prune. A nice bittering, dry finish with a bit of acidity. It leaves a nice tingle on the tongue. Moutfeel is decent: Slightly creamy and smooth. A delicious beer! The folks at a local liquor store tell me this seasonal release is anxiously awaited around here. Not sure how I missed it before. And, of course, it has that awesome can!

Update - my tv went out. Had to migrate to my local bar to watch my seahawks. Enjoying a local beverage - Foothills Hoppyum IPA. would recommend.

That's pretty damn cool. It may sound lame but I'm excited/happy I could help other BA's on here!

    Cheers brother!

EDIT: It gives me something to look forward to next Sunday!

I don't mind TV in bars, I watch a lot of baseball in bars. But, bars should never have the game sound on. That was the deal breaker. Most announcers seem to think they get paid by the word. Show the game, cheer for, or against, a team, but for the love of all that is holy, we don't need to hear that blather!

Happy 500 NBS! Gotta keep it short, typing in the car is hard. We are on our way home from a week at Robert H Tremen St.park Up late last night splitting growlers with some folks. Saison de Peche from Selin's Grove was the highlight, but was not new to me and was gone before midnight. This one made it until 2 or so. Nice saison from my sisters part of the world

    New Gose Sunday

    Good afternoon, NBSers!

Beautiful early autumn day in the greater St. Louis area. Spent a few hours at a local craft fair with my lovely wife and after a few errands, landed in the man cave for some beer and football.

I've only had a few of these, but I'm enjoying the light, tart and salty flavor of this Gose. Here's my review.

New Beaten Belgian Strong Golden Beer Sunday!

Well folks I'm back with a new brew. I seen this at Max's where I shared it's other (darker) half with two other BeerAdvocates @wiscokid920 and @gillagorilla. Well that beer is this!

Let's describe the brew! This brew pours gorgeous! Nice Golden Blonde body with a tight bubbly white head. The aroma should tell me more. Very strong! It's almost farmhouse. There's wet hay with a tinge of almost overly ripe pears. Lemon pith and hints of puffed sugar. I like where this is going! No alcohol. The taste is just as insane! It's ripe pears with some candied sugar. Spicy yeast with hints of funk. Cookie dough and some leafy hop flavors lingers in the aftertaste. Finishes light, sweet, dry and very low bitterness. The feel is light bodied and carbonation is on point!

Overall: Bam! I'm glad I went back to my Belgian Strong Golden Ales for this one. This beer is what I've been missing, with all the American IPAs and DIPAs I've been indulging in for the past few months. De Landtsheer is one of my personal favorite Belgian Breweries. They have truly learned the art of hiding booze in their brews. This brew registers at 11% ABV. If you like Belgian anything, do not pass at this! This brew is Recommended!

    Grade: A+

    Cheers NBSers!

Reason #eleventy why I do my drinking at home. I am just not a fan of television. If I go to a bar or a restaurant I went there to:
    1. Eat/Drink
    2. Have a quiet conversation.
Invariably the person(s) with whom I wish to speak are either staring at a large television screen or staring at a small phone screen. This used to bother me more but now I just open a book. /shrug

    Another New Stone Sunday

After spending the past 2 days drinking mainly Marzens at the largest non-Munich Oktoberfest in the world, I am back home with a stout in hand. I wanted to share just a few photos though of my funtastic weekend with my 2 brothers, cousin and all the ladies. We had some great weather, awesome meals, some bourbon, and of course, lots of beer. I have had a terrible time trying to post anything on this site from my phone. The pictures jump around, the photo icon doesn't work most of the time, and when it does it has the previous direct link, and if you delete it, so goes the previous pic. Also getting reply to post was rarely working, or did twice. Desktop seems to be OK (Mac). Not sure if it is IOS 8 issue or just the site. Anyone else?

One of 2 meat/cheese trays at the Moerlein Lager House. The candied pork belly stole that show. We were smacking each others hands.

    On to the new beer…
    [IMG]
Smell is baking spices, mostly cinnamon, and chili peppers, with some roasted coffee in the background.Honestly, not much to get excited about. The taste is a different story though. The subtle heat from the chilies hits at the same time as the sweetness from the vanilla and cinnamon. Very well balanced. Also a roasted malt and coffee flavor on the back end leaving an ashy aftertaste. My biggest complaint, and score dinger, is the viscosity. The base beer tastes and feels exactly like their coffee milk stout to me. I realize that it is lower in ABV, and I appreciate that more often these days, but it just doesn't seem to fit the great flavor profile. Would love to see this be thicker/creamier. Don't get me wrong. This is still an outstanding beer, at a great price too ($6), but I read a few comparisons to Hunahpu. Not even close. Since taste is still the most important part, I gave it a 4.25 overall. Easily my second favorite chili pepper beer. Make sure to try it.
