S- Sour, citrus, grapefruit, hint of lime, hoppy, tropical fruits. 4.5

T- Light, bright, citrus tartness, somewhat dank, some pale malts. 4

M- Smooth, crisp, light body. 4

O- A nice, super light sour. Worth trying, nose is really sour, but taste isn't strong with the sourness, hoppiness is really nice. 4

I'm very happy that Jay Cutler signed a long term deal with the Bears. He is truly the Packers MVP helping the Pack to a 10-1 record when he starts.

After the Packers big win, I did some lawn work and now am enjoying a big beer from Smuttynose. The taste is fantastic on this warm fall afternoon. Bold bitter chocolate, dark fruit, bitter coffee and some woodiness. The middle finds the sweetness of caramel and toffee, maybe some semi sweet chocolate. The finish is bold and has some bitterness from the hops.

Thanks to everyone showing and telling us about their new beer today.

Back with my second new beer of the day, Red Wheelbarrow, a "Red IPA" from the Maine Beer Co, courtesy of ShroudOfDoom:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20681/103142/?ba=woemad

Seems like a great IPA that happens to have a darker color than the norm, rather than, say, a hoppy red ale.

My second "Red IPA" of the past few days - I drank one from Boundary Bay on Friday sent to me by the great Beer Tunes. It was a more malty though still hoppy beer - kind of the opposite of Red Wheelbarrow, in fact.

I might be back with one more.

New Saison Sunday beer #2 - Enlightentment Ales 907. This is a farmhouse ale with Brett brewed exclusively for Redstone Liquors, an awesome bottle shop that's about a 20 minute drive north of Boston in Stoneham, MA. Released in November 2013.

Poured into one of my Prairie teku glasses, the color is golden and nearly clear. Aroma is heavy on the citrus notes and I can't detect any Brett presence on the nose. The flavor is very much the same as the aroma at first, with lots of citrus, but if it didn't mention the Brett on the bottle label I might not have even realized it was in there. However as I got about 3/4 of the way thought the bottle the Brett character began to make it presence known. It was very subtle but it was definitely there. If I had been really looking forward to drinking a Brett Saison I most likely would have been disappointed with the lack of funk in this one, but having already finished one such beer earlier, this turned out to be a nice change of pace with the citrus flavor.

Another first time brew. Double Wide by Boulevard. Not a hop bomb, but very well balanced. Orange to tangerine in hop profile, then a light tartness mixes with the bitter finish. Drinkable to the extreme. Would definitely buy again, though I hate corked and caged bottles. Just give me a cap....

Hello NBSer's. Call me a Fiestbier fanatic as I have been enjoying the Oktoberfest celebrations with a marathon of marzens. Today, I enjoyed my 9th new Marzen of the season.
Great looking brew and looks promising for my favorite take on the O'fest style. Nose highlights sweet malts and grain/grassy hops. Very Clean. Crisp, slightly chewy mouth feel. This O’fest falls in line with the sweet and malty takes on the style. Sweet caramel malt along with the earthy spice hops gives it that sweet tea characteristic. Albeit it’s sweet, this brew has nice balance with the chewy malt and body.

One of the better Marzens of my Oktoberfest Marathon. One I will surely seek out again.

    Prost!

This was a definite "why not" flight of fancy...and the brew lived up to my rather low expectations. It pours very dark brown with a high fizzy head and just a hint of coconut aroma...more "toasted" than "coconut". Mouthfeel was rather thin, and what little coconut was in the aroma pretty much disappeared once I took a sip. Flavor was malty with a bit of cocoa; not unpleasant but nothing memorable. Overall, I'd give it somewhere between a 3.00 and a 3.25.

    Happy NBS everyone!

Sorry I missed the week 500 festivities last week but it looks like you are in good hands, as always.

Thanks to @2beerdogs for the chance to sample this West Coast gem. It hit the spot on an Indian Summer day in Central OH.

I hope you are all enjoying a fine American ale in your snifter, nonic, or perfect pint today!

Thanks to @2beerdogs for the chance to sample this West Coast gem.

Aroma: Very bright lemony hop aroma up front. Fresh melon and mango notes. Clean fermentation character.

Appearance: Hazy amber pour with pale yellow edges. A lot white head retains well.

Flavor: More lemon and melon flavors. Low caramel sweetness. Firm pithy grapefruit-like bitterness. Balance is to the bitter. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with high carbonation. Slightly oily. No alcohol heat.

Overall impression: A dry and crisp IPA. Full tilt West Coast. Big and tropical. Well done!

My sister's wedding was yesterday. My brother-in-law gave all the groomsman a 120 minute as a gift. I somehow managed to forget mine at home. It was a great thing because the one groomsman who was extremely unfamiliar with craft beers took one sip, hated it, and gave the rest to me :stuck_out_tongue:. Really glad I got to try it. It is a really unique beer. It was about 5 months old so I'm gonna put the other one away for a few years.

As for today, I'm finally trying lagunitas sucks. Loved it (and the price makes it even better).

Chocolate covered raisins, caramel, and faint floral notes. Doesn’t hide the alcohol as well as some things I’ve had today but I find myself not minding. Just wish I could place the exact type of flowers I am tasting.

The alcohol is not as well hidden in this as in some beers of similar abv but the burn reminds me more of capsaicin than solvents.

This beer is ridiculously well-balanced and a perfect example of how Sierra Nevada takes so much of my money. It also pairs well with pretzels and homemade spicy Hopslam mustard.

New Imperial Oak Aged Porter with Chocolate Sunday!

Today's work day went fast, always a plus. Beautiful Weather here in Baltimore MD. Enough of that stuff, time for the new beer! This brew has been on my radar since 2011. Now Baltimore gets some. That beer is this!

Let's get down to the brew. This puppy pours a nice dark brown body almost on the verge of being black. With very dark brown hues gleaming the outskirts of my tulip glass. Nice creamy mocha head made up with tiny bubbles. Looks fantastic! The aroma is just a dense chocolate bar feeling. Nice baked cookie dough in the backend. Not picking up any oak, but this beer smells Amazing! The flavor is just as amazing. Chocolate and roast with some cookie dough sweetness. This brew finishes on time smooth/sweet and slight bitterness with a touch of toasted oak and a little heat. Simply amazing. This brew is medium volume in the body with par carbonation.

Overall: Move over Sugar! Daddy's got a sweet tooth tonight! This brew is delicious beyond belief. This really reminds me of Imperial Biscotti Break, with more delicious chocolate. Smooth and sweet like some milk chocolate. This is packing some flavor for sure. It was a bit pricey, but worth it to me! This brew is recommended.

    Grade: A+

    Cheers New Beer Sunday Crew!

    New Hefeweizen

It's another beautiful Sunday in West MI. The local Oktoberfest celebration was a huge success. It's getting bigger every year. Skies are blue and temps are summer-like, making for a great day to get outside with the kids and fire up the grill for dinner. Also great weather for a Michigan-made hefeweizen. It's been lurking in the back of the fridge, but was still quite crisp. Oh yeah, serving today's brew out of my newly earned glass. Gotta love races that start and end at a brewery.
