    Hey What's Going ON?!?!?

WHAT TIME IS IT??!? I feel funny... just landed and need to get my feet wet.

This really seems appropriate, and it's a good deserved break having left the West coast there in San Francisco behind of IPA madness and switching it up.

It's also a perfect brew cause I am back home with my two "gatos!" who I have missed much and always happy to be around again.

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities, and it was a good atmosphere with the World Series going on and seeing both fans congregate and paint the town big time. Funniest baseball moment.. seeing several KC fans but one in particular who had a big blue shirt on saying "Royals World Series 2014 We don't suck anymore"..

    hysterical..

But it's great to be back in the DC area (and doing much needed laundry).

What is new for our hero today?!?!? look at that kitty he/she? is so CUTE and COOL!

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Opaque and thick bodied appearance, with a nice booming apricot orange, to brass yellow. Head is a very cream forming off white to tan, with about two fingers. Nice creamy top with some whipped up like sheets of lacing. Very nice.

Excellent aroma for a tripel. Good hints of sweet bready like malts, and then some classic fruit pear and juiced apple qualities too. Bakery sweetness, some good controlled candy sugar that's not too out of control, adding to the fruit qualities nicely. Some faint banana, some good variety on the fruit angle, getting into fruit basket quality. Very very good.

Very nice delivering palate. Super creamy mouthfeel, coating with honey and vanilla like tones just amazing and them most impressive thing about the brew it seems. Lots of whipped cream and banana surprising quality in flavor. Warm hints of pear, even some soft tropical melon like qualities. Whipped up body like you could spread it on cake, with a big angel food taste, and soft graham crackers. Lingering spiced nutmeg and even peppermint action on the finish with a nice bit of dryness too.

Overall a great tripel, very different too from the standard Belgians also, very surprised by this as well.

    -------------

I loves me a good tripel and this so hit the buttons nicely.

    Greetings All:

Checking in on a NBS with a brown ale I've had in the cellar since spring. Just waiting for a crisp fall day. This was it.

Mission Street Brown Ale. A very good brown.

Breezy here in eastern Washington. I wasted yesterday going to Pullman to watch the WSU Cougar football game. 31-0 in the first quarter. What kind of crap is that? So today it was fall chores.

I think I'm out of new beer, so a shopping trip may be on the agenda for this week.

    Happy Trails!

Beautiful fall day here in SE Mass. Actually brewed me a batch o' beer this afternoon. I borrowed the recipe from a kit, but bought the ingredients at the LHBS. It hopefully turns out to be Saison de Noel from Northern Brewer. So nothing original, but I finally got something bubblin' in the fermenter.

Spent the evening haunting the graveyard for the church youth group walk. Fun, but damn did it get cold.

New beer, but a riff on a favorite. Jacks Abby cocoanut Framinghammer. This one just doesn't do it for me. I find the Framinghammers strong, but drinkable and nicely balanced. This one seems a hot, boozy mess. Not much cocoanut flavor. I am actually kinda glad I split it with the missus. I let it warm up and expected the alcohol to calm down some, but it didn't. It does not seem at all like the other 'hammers I've had.

Good evening NBS! Another fun work week ahead. Hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend tonight. Wrapping up a review milestone tonight.

    New beers:

Solid fruited wheat ale. Aromas were a bit off, really estery. Taste of lemon, pomegranate, pear, wheat, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of fruit tartness and earthy bitterness on the finish. Good amount of flavor robustness for the ABV. Good balance of the malt and fruit flavors with some earthy hops. Pleasant and pretty tasty/unique. 3.48
    [IMG]

This was pretty good. Aromas were nice, pleasant, and balanced; but fairly weak. Taste of lemon, apricot, cardamom, honey, bread, vanilla, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Fair amount of fruit tartness and earthy bitterness on the finish. Flavor balance is solid with good robustness of flavors; but there are some slightly cloying flavors after the finish, but not to bad. Smooth and moderately crisp finish; a bit slick from the fruit. Overall, quite enjoyable and unique. The fruit and spices had good presence, but the balance needed some tweaking for sure. 3.58
    [IMG]

Very tasty Belgian pale ale. Taste of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, clove, wheat, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice sized crisp yeast spiciness on the finish. Well balanced malt and yeast flavors with moderate earthy hop notes. Highly carbonation and a nice crisp/fairly dry finish. Very enjoyable. 3.8

Review 2700. This is awesome. The nose is fantastic between big oak and bourbon complexity and underlying sweetness with some noticeable citrus/pine hop character. Tastes of big caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, and bourbon with some underlying citrus/pine/earthy hop character in the back. A fair amount of pine/oaky bitterness on the finish provides some great balance for the malts. Great balance of malt and barrel flavors, very well integrated. Nice full body with some light-moderate carbonation. Very creamy and fairly slick feel is very smooth for the ABV. No resinous hop character in the mouthfeel at all. Lovely barelywine. 4.2

I don't post in here often but it is halftime of a game the Packers aren't playing that great on offense so I thought I'd open this baby. I've been sitting on it a while.

It is very good. There is a deep, dark bourbony smell. The taste follows the nose quite a bit. Dark fruit, licorice and toffee flavors are dominant.

Second half is upon is so Go Pack Go!

Greetings fellow NBSer's. Yes, another late[r] posting for me but I'm always happy to contribute to the thread none the less. This NBS brew is one I have heard high regards for and have dearly sought. The the first time I saw this brew it was sitting on a dusty shelf and a year old...I passed. I recently found this brew with a bottle on date of a few months, and I had to snag it. Now I'll be looking for at least another 4-pack...or soon to be 6 pack!
This is one of those brews that is frequently referenced to here on BA...and rightly so. This beer is fantastic! I am one of those individuals who drinks coffee on the regular. I love me a Coffee Stout...or "Porter"...as well. This is now one of my favorites, and I have enjoyed my fair share of Coffee Stouts (Bourbon County Coffee Stout, Terrapin WnB, SN Double Latte Collab, CW Peruvian Morning and CW Brewhouse Stout...if its a Coffee stout with WI or MD distro, I have sought it out).

High, High, Praise for this beer. Everything is there...nose highlights with dark roast coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate bitterness, and vanilla sweetness. The taste starts off with vanilla sweetness and magically melds into base stout of this brew. Great dark roasted malt, dark roast coffee and espresso bitterness.

    Beautiful

    Cheers!

Howdy NBS crowd! Going to get this Halloween entry in that I enjoyed earlier on a busy beer day. Hope you had a great one.

Pours a cloudy dark orange with ample white foam and tiny carbonation bubbles.

Aroma is mild pie spices. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice.

Taste is mild cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin flesh, followed by a bit of a citric finish. A very balanced mix of flavors with a very light fizzy mouthfeel akin to a tonic. It almost has a lager like taste to it, very light and crisp.

If you're opposed to pumpkin beers because of the much often overload of spices, this is the one for you. Very subtle mix of spices in a very drinkable beer. All said, I'm a fan and give it a 4.

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,

A late visit to the NBS Pub today. I agreed to pick up a twelve-hour shift at work today, so I didn’t get home until now. Right now I’m cooking dinner, and afterwards I will be opening up a tasty treat sent me by ShroudOfDoom – an Impy Stout from Massachusetts that will be my 1,000th review! Until then, here’s something I had earlier in the week.

I found myself in northern Idaho on Thursday, where I managed to try several beers that were new to me, the most noteworthy of which was a very yummy “light” saison (okay, 5.5% isn’t exactly light, but it’s kinda light for the style).

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28798/142892/?ba=woemad

Ridiculously drinkable. Apparently it was brewed with the idea that as people crossed the finish line for the Iron Man Triathalon in Coeur d’Alene, they’d be able to drink a beer that was simultaneously refreshing and light but also checked the appropriate boxes for a good saison. Mission accomplished, and I think I have a new favorite session beer.

Very tasty, a classic Imperial Stout. The only critcism I can level at it is that I thought a little added coffeeish bitterness would balance it a little better, but it's stil awfully damn good. It'll certainly do for tonight, and probably for next week as well. I'll be out of town and probably unable to contribute to the next thread

Hey NBSers, today was much better than yesterday's blustery wetness in this neck of the woods. Fresh hop season is about over, but I'm anticipating a bottle of Lagunitas' version in the next few days. I made an attempt this year to track as many fresh hop beers as I could, so any chance to try a new one can now be justified as "research." However, today's new beer features only dried hops:

Escape to Colorado from Epic Brewing of Denver, CO

No date on the can, but I believe it's fairly new in distro so hopefully that means it's fresh. Aroma was bright and citrusy, though not particularly strong. The can mentions Mosaics, but after recently having some Mosaic single hopped beers I think there has to be some other variety(ies) too. It's a good IPA in my book, lots of late addition/dry hop flavor without much bitterness, but I'm spoiled by where I live, 3.5/5.

    Sunday funday!

Well, not really. Apartment searching is the current bane of my existence. Seattle, why you gotta be so expensive?? The rain has set in with a vengeance up here, though there have been breaks of beautiful sunshine here and there, like parts of this afternoon -- almost more reminscient of spring than autumn, but I'm all for it, I like autumn as a season more than spring anyway. Most of the week has been caught up with house hunting and wrapping up introductory paperwork for the dreamjob, which starts in just over a week. Pretty damn excited. Basketball was even going well: a better turnout than I've seen all year, and on a personal level, I felt like things were clicking and I was playing better than I have in a very very long time. Of course, that was until I came down from a jumpshot and landed on someone's foot. No walking for me for a little bit, I guess!!

The new offering today is another fantastic beer from a brewery that has been one that I've loved for some time, and just keeps creeping higher up my list with each offering I try. Fremont's Cowiche Canyon Fresh Hop Ale is a juicy/spicy blend of organic Yakima valley hops that hits all the right spots for a great APA. 6%, while not astronomical, may be a bit higher than most are used to in Pales, further blurring the already seemingly arbitrary line between APAs and IPAs. While this one presents a bevy of hop flavours and aromas (nose is more of the juicy/spicy/resinous variety, tongue tends towards the sweet/floral/spicy), it doesn't delve so far into the world of punshingly bitter hops to cross that arbitrary line.
I guess what my longwinded and winding verbiosity is trying to get at is that this is a very good pale ale without falling into the trap of essentially being an IPA that's just labelled smaller.
Forgive the washed out picture. At least it was before the puppy jumped up and knocked it over with her paw!

Welcome to the new folks: it's always good to see this little band grow, and cheers to all!

Now, to go with the song that's been stuck in my head for the last couple of days, or the one that just got stuck there this afternoon...
    Longevity wins out.

    Oh, PS!
A couple of weeks ago I mused about an imploded can of TopCutter that was in my fridge. The resolution to that story arc: Thanks to Tongorad's seemingly obvious suggestion to contact the brewery, it turns out they had an issue with their canning machine over the summer, and it lead to issues seaming the cans. Cool! Drank it and it was fine, and they sent me a neat-o tshirt for my trouble. I will wear it with pride.
