It's probably both, people don't know too much about them and the price for ABV per fluid ounce. I usually buy almost all of their hoppy beers, because like you stated, they become dust collectors. That is sad because MBC is a World Class brewery.

Another One gets better distro around here than Lunch, most of the time. And as Nate has told you...it's better! (Well, IMO; it's fruitier, slightly sweeter.)

King Titus can stand a few months, but it's still a fairly hoppy porter; past about 6 months, and I no longer enjoy it.

You joined on Thursday, but you knocked your first NBS post out of the park. Welcome, and thanks for sharing!

    Greetings Fellow NBS'ers.
Today marks my one year anniversary on BA and my 100th rated beer since I joined.
Today I am trying out St. Bernardus' Abt 12. May not be the most sought after of beers out there but from the reports it is one of the most respected and one I've been dying to try. This bottle has a best by date of 19 04 18 making it about a year and a half old if I have ant sense at all.

But the long and short of it is a grand total of 4.45, with an rdev of -0.4%. I think if there was just a bit more sweetness to this beer it would have countered the burnt sugar taste and the extremely dry mouthfeel and would have bumped it closer to the 5 range. But as it is it is an extremely well done beer and one that I am glad to finally have had the chance to try out.

And the newest vid from my favorite band.

    Alright, I'm back.
That was a pretty cathartic win today for the Hawks, taking down the best team in the league (per records) in pretty convincing fashion. Don't try and tell me they were missing their starting QB and the best WR the franchise has ever seen, it's still a quality win!! I thought the team from the other Washington was actually going to pull it out against the 9ers, too, but, unfortunately, that was not to be. And the Sounders weren't even able to manage a one goal in LA, despite several seemingly golden opportunities so next week should be interesting.

I picked up a Pumpkin Patch Ale, by Rogue, on a whim while picking up the last few ingredients for tonight's casserole, and was pleasantly rewarded. I did not have high hopes, I'll be honest. I picked it up because I figured while I'm throwing myself whole heartedly into this pumpkin thing, I may as well get my hands on as many different ones as possible, good and not as good. Well, it turns out this one was actually pretty good. Fairly sweet, but not in the pumpkin pie/vanilla/spice way that so many are (though the spices began to emerge as it warmed), this started with more of a honey sweet, and then pretty straightforward pumpkin showcase. The honey sweet helped to bring out the creamier aspects of the pumpkin, and counterbalanced the earthier side really nicely. Like I said: pleasant surprise.

Nothing special, but a nostalgic staple, filling, and most importantly: used up a bunch of ingredients I needed to use!

MBC around here is mostly Mean Old Tom, Peeper, Zoe, out of date Red Wheelbarrow. Was at Nikki's last week asking about Allagash Farm to Face, and the guy said do you like IPAs as we were checking out our haul of Odysset and Curieux. Handed me Lunch bottled late September.

I tend to like the juicy ones, so Another One seems right up my alley. Just have to watch the dates, because it does show up periodically. With two trustworthy recommendations, can't go wrong!

Happy late night NBS Sunday everyone. Been lurking for a while, so I decided to join the fun and make my first ever BA post in here. I would have posted earlier today, but was working all day and now finally getting a chance to relax with a newly released beer that I was eagerly anticipating when I first heard about it from a friend that works at a distributor in town.

So I picked up Southern Tier's new Imperial Rum Barrel Aged Pumking at a local bottle shop by my house after work tonight. I like Pumking, and I like rum, so it has to be good, right? And, it was! my review:

    ...

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3818/144099/?ba=TominYNP

22 oz bomber poured into a tulip glass.

Look: Light amber color, looks like regular Pumking to me

Smell: Getting the cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices that make up Pumking, along with the obvious characteristics of rum

Taste: At first taste, you get the sweet, pumpkin-y taste of Pumking. But then comes...rum! The rum hit pretty hard and dominates the after-taste, but in a good way in my opinion. Very tasty! Even though it's barrel aged, I'm detecting no characteristics of the barrel, unfortunately.

Mouthfeel: Light and smooth. Has the creamy taste that Pumking is famous for.

Overall: I really liked this new beer. The rum compliments Pumking really well, and makes for an enjoyable beer. The only minor complaint I have is that there is no hint of any barrel traits. Doesn't matter, still very tasty and I'm glad I got a chance to try it.

Southern Tier makes some good beers, including this one, so I hope that this isn't a one time brew. Even though it was about twice the amount I pay for regular Pumking, I will probably grab another bottle since it's an outstanding beer. If you like Pumking (and rum) and you see it around, grab it while you can!

    ...

Really tasty! Despite the high price tag, I will try to grab another bottle since it's limited edition. Maybe someday they will make a bourbon barrel Pumking!

Gonna enjoy this while I can for the rest of the night.

    Cheers!

    Tom

    Hey NBSers,

Sent the eldest up to WA for Thanksgiving today, but other than that the week has flown by at work in a pre-Thanksgiving rush. Untappd reminds me I had a fair few Workhorses since last Sunday, and a couple of other beers but nothing "new" until tonight. Even then, it comes with an asterisk.

Disclaimer: I must have at least tasted this beer before, but I can't remember when. The brewery is in easy walking distance for me, and they seem well liked across the town/state/region with their 6pk cans, but their beers have never done anything for me. If I've ever had this beer, it was on draft, so I wondered if giving it a fresh look in the format in which most of its fans outside Bend are drinking it would reveal some special insight.

I don't want to be unkind to a local brewery, but I see no redemption for this beer with me. While I recognize it's a well made beer, the aroma and flavor profiles don't push a single one of my buttons. Nothing stands out, it has beery aromas and flavors sure enough, but it feels like a low-res copy in comparison to the high-definition smells and tastes of my favorite beers. Just not my thing. 2/5

    Happy NBS All!!!

Sorry, I have been really busy lately and haven’t been contributing on a weekly basis. However, I check in every week to see what’s brewing with all of you. I’ve been excited to see that it seems we’ve been getting new people every single week. AWESOME!!!

I was surprised by this pleasant IPA from Kona (by way of Portland). Will look for this one again. I was actually surprised to find it at a wedding. Nice surprise amongst all of the Bud Lite drinkers.
