I'm back with the first beer of New Beer of nfc championship Sunday:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/158/47440/?ba=woemad

Pretty good, Great Divide is generally a brewery I have no fears about approaching, and it's one of the better wee heavy's I've had, but not enough to make me forget my favorites of the style.

I'' be back after the game for my celebration/commiseration beer - expecting the former, but I respect the Packers enough that I have to acknowledge the possibility of the latter.

This was my least favorite offering I have had from them, but that isn't a negative comment. Like you said, I am not afraid at all to grab something form Great Divide. They make some solid beers in every style. I will definitely visit on my next trip to Denver.

Not going to review this one until my palate develops and I feel even remotely qualified to do so... but damn this tastes good!

My brother in Olympia picked it up for me because he couldn't find Silver City's Fat, something I'd said I wanted for Xmas (it's not distributed this side of the Cascades) and figured it was the same style so he figured I would dig it.

I think I came out ahead. I'll be going to his place next week and I'll pick it up where I think I can find it, plus he decided to split the difference and got me this, also from Silver City:

According to the press release forwarded me by @beefandbean22 when I asked about this beer on the Northwest Forum, there were only 60 cases of this, which was aged on bourbon barrels for a year after it was brewed. That's what I'm hitting post game!

Ok, I'm going to cheat a bit and review a new beer from yesterday. Back story: My son and his new fiancee (they got engaged in November) are up for a visit from Austin, TX. She had never been to Boston so we decided to take a day trip up there yesterday. It was cold but no wind and sunny, so it was a good day to do some sightseeing. After driving around town, we decided to check out the Harpoon Brewery (my son is a huge beer enthusiast too, and actually turned me on to this site 15 months ago). The line to get in to the taproom was at least an hour long, let alone trying to take the tour.

Instead, we decided to check out the Boston Tea Party Museum that we spotted on the way over to the Harpoon Brewery. Of course they have a Tea Room, and to our surprise they also had a beer on Tap - Harpoon's Tea House Ale, specially made for a party that was held back in December commemorating the event that occurred 240 years ago. This ale is brewed with lapsang souchong tea, which was supposedly one of the teas dumped overboard during the Boston Tea Party. Souchong means 4th & 5th leaves of the plant, away from the bud (pekoe) which has the most flavor. So those leaves are smoked, which gives the ale it's dark appearance, and a distinct 'Rauchbier' flavor, that compliments the malty sweetness. You can taste the tea flavor on the backside.

So we tried to upload a rating to BA yesterday, but we can't find this beer on list of Harpoon beers, perhaps because it is a one-of that is only a month old (originally served at the Tea Room on December 10th, 2014 - I wanted to buy the mug but it was not for sale). We were told that it is no longer available at the Harpoon Brewery, and the Tea House is down to it's last keg. So if you want to try this fine ale get over to the Boston Tea Party Museum asap before it's gone!

I think you mean "bitter" (and I'm there with ya). Although I'd rather GB go than Seattle (sorry @woemad and others), mainly because I don't like any repeat champions unless it's my team. Unfortunately, with 1/2 a Rodgers, not sure GB can get it done.

NBS BIF #1 DIPA FROM MY NEW NE BFF

Of course he sent proper glassware.

Smells like a grapefruit bomb. Citrus and some hemp. No shortage of very fresh, funky good smelling hops here.
I didn't think it smelled bad at all, but the taste is far less one dimensional than I would have guessed. Still all citrus, but not all grapefruit. It is dominant, but also some pineapple, tangerine, and melon flavors. Very tropical and much sweeter than I would have predicted. Almost a candied sugar that reminds me of Great Lakes Chillwave and Deschutes Fresh Squeezed. Fairly dank finish with solid bitterness.
I am a bit biased towards tropical hops, but this a very well done DIPA. It could probably use a tad more malt balance, but when it comes to taste - I still have this one in world class range. One of those deadly easy drinking beers too. Going to go share some with one of my brothers even though I don't really want to.

Also nibbling on some Pancetta (meh), and Formaggio with pepperoni and marinara (not bad actually)

It's actually kind of fun to see your team get the hate that comes with winning a Super Bowl. Mainly because, well, we won the freaking Super Bowl!

Haha, I know all about hate for my team (especially where I live)... and they don't have to win a Super Bowl (in fact, they haven't been since the 90s) - pretty much they just have to show up.

Greetings, keeners of Kent and wailers of Willemette, it’s my first review since the debauched beer binge of Seattle, WA and its surrounding environs. Over 8 days spent in and around Bainbridge Island, WA enabled me (in more ways than one) to try 40 beers, from the small and unknown Sound Brewing to the ethereal Elysian. Yes, I did the ferry rides, the Pike Market Experience, tromped through the Grand Forest (saw no Banana slugs), visited two distilleries, went up in the Needle, blew through (much to my dismay) the E.M.P. Museum, and communed with sea urchins in the Seattle Aquarium. I walked through a retired Airforce One at the Boeing Flight Museum. No, I wasn’t hammered the whole time. Why do you keep looking at me like that??!!

Southern Tier’s Imperial Rum Barrel Aged Pumking

Poured roughly into a Maredsous chalice

Sight: Hazy with a bit of carbonation making its way up from the bottom. SRM might be about a 10 or so, a Lipton’s Iced Tea sort of golden yellow/orange. Head pours thick but dies down quickly to a small cap, and leaves with nary a trace.

Smell: Soft aromas of baked bread, pumpkin and spices, and a malty sweetness. Barely any hop presence. Considering only two types of hops and malt, I think it lets the spices and the gourd through nicely.

Taste: Sweet and spicy (not hot, but think pie spice). Malt comes through in the middle, and the hops get off their bines just long enough to make a fashionably late appearance. Perhaps the rum “provides a roundness” and also ties things together. The heat from the 10.7% is well hidden when chilled, might be more evident as it warms.

Feel: Feather soft carbonation verging on flat, medium length finish. Easy sipper.

Overall: After a much anticipated arrival, and I was happy to try this one, despite it being January and not during typical “pumpkin” season of October/November. They are a winter vegetable, though, right?

Music choice? It's winter with a fall beer... So, it's time for spring...

    G'day to you NBS FANatics!
A very windy but comfortable, temp wise, Sunday in Casper. That's gonna change later this afternoon....colder, maybe some more snow.

My new beer, though I do have others on the standby, is a Wine barrel aged Saison from Upslope in Boulder CO.:

    MY

Got a Howler's worth at the Growler station from Liquor Shed. My review:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18564/149381/?ba=Bitterbill

Wow, it's good. I may have been a bit miserly with my rating but the numbers don't always reflect my TRUE feelings 100% of the time anyways so I'll go with what I went with. Cheers!

Oops, forgot the pic, sitting on one of my telescope mounts:

Two great 90s alt rock tunes. Though a metal man, I can still appreciate the "catchiness" of both of those. Cheers.

Happy NEW beer Sunday! I've actually had two NEW beers today. I had to open something from Wisconsin rooting for the Packers in the NFC Championship game, so what better than NEW Glarus?
Of the NEW Glarus fruit beers I've had this is not my favorite as no notes from the wild fermentation come through, but that's a minor complaint as it's still absolutely delicious. A blend of apple, cranberry and cherry.

Second, a beer so NEW it's not even on the site yet! (I'll add it during commercials). The first canned beer from local favorite Platform: NEW Cleveland Palesner
    [IMG]
They nailed the style- light, refreshing, & pure flavors. Being released in the winter, I hope it's still around in the summer as it would be great on a hot day.

Also hoping for the Colts to beat NEW England.
    GO PACK GO
    Cheers!
