Good morning to all of you who take your inspiration from the irascible Irish dry stout! Welcome to New Beer Sunday. Today is the day and this is the place for you to try a new beer and tell us about it. Show us your photos, play us a song and most importantly tell us something about the beer you have today. You don't have to publish a whole review but we want to see one if you do. =)

What a week. I sprained my shoulder, carrying beer home most likely, and boy does it hurt. I have spent the most uncomfortable few days appreciating the unimpeded use of my right arm which I am now paying for in grimaces each time I want to do anything. We are expecting another snowstorm too. Today I plan to celebrate this new beer Sunday with you all in style as I have a beer from a brewery I have been dying to try! I am so excited to bring you my first beer from Rushing Ducks. This one is called Dogs Bollocks and is an Englsih Style Barleywine . Let's get this party started. Cheers and Happy new Beer Sunday.

Pours a honey orange color with a lovely cloudiness. Hues of yellow to catch even the corners of your eye. Tan head of foam that I cannot speak to because I only poured a tasting glass worth. But it looks creamy and long lasting. Nose is malty and deep. A slight hint of bourbon under a nutty toffee. Dark dried fruits in the background come forward more and more as it warms. Light buttered toast, stiff caramel and spice. Gentle hop herbal to remind you they are there.

Taste is layered with malt character. Molasses, dark dried fruits, raisin and lots of caramel to delight the palate. This beer has only mild esters from alcohol on the nose and on the palate the alcohol is smooth and offers a friendly bit of warmth to the swallow. The flavors are mellow and well blended. A ticklish bit of spice in the finish . The barrel seems to all but disappear on the palate and then it shows itself like a child that plays peek a boo bringing subtle hints of the whiskey and oak to the flavor without totally revealing itself. Light bit of treacle emerges as it warms.

Mouthfeel is full and creamy, chewy with smooth alcohol warmth. A moderate carbonation keeps this beer from feeling heavy or syrupy.

I would like to bring your attention to all the bubbles in the glass to the left. That is not a clean glass. This is a public service announcement and a reminder to self to wash glasses better.

Well I just posted this on WBAYDN, but I'll be able to expand my thoughts here. I'm getting ready to watch the Capital One Cup Final which features Chelsea FC vs. Tottenham, our London rivals. The CO Cup is a domestic cup competition in England and today's winner gets to hoist a trophy -- that's important. Anyway, I'll stop talking football -- err, soccer.

Kona Brewing just came to Kansas, and I'm in the mood for refreshing light beers, even if we are blanketed with snow on March 1. Big Wave Golden Ale immediately reminds me of Breckenridge Ophelia Hoppy Wheat Ale.

Look: Clear deep golden body with slowly rising bubbles under a foamy white cap. As the beer goes down, my fluted glass is caked with thick soapy lacing. Nice.

Aroma: Spicy hops bring a spicy cedar aroma mixed with lemon lest and a touch of grapefruit. Very refreshing.

Taste: More subdued than the aroma, a softer malt profile tones down the citrus that was so prominent in the nose. However the woody cedar is present as well as the citrus rinds. A very clean, dry finish with a bright and light mouthfeel.

This beer is 4.40% ABV and very tasty. I love the spiciness and zest in this beer. I rated it 4.31 which is good for +21.4 rDev. I can't wait to try Kona's other offerings. I'll be drinking Murphy's Irish Draught the rest of the morning because of superstition and mojo. Cheers.

Good morning Maria and the rest of the NBS regulars! I've been getting back into some new brews after some busy weeks. Expecting more snow today, but I'm off work for almost a month now, and expecting my new piano to be delivered tomorrow, so...let it snow! :grinning:

Excellent breakfast and coffee, and paired it with the first new brew to me today: Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Hoppy Lager.

Beautiful clear brew, with an even more impressive aroma: really well balanced between sweet, biscuity malts, and flowery, juicy hops.

Flavor is similarly balanced: sweet malts and wildflower honey up forward; waves of flowery and juicy citrus hops following; herbal and bitter finish highlighting the malt reminiscent of an AAL-style brew (think Spaten, not Bud, though; it's not at all a bad flavor).

Overall, an exquisitely crafted brew. I think I might prefer it if I were in the mood for a light lager (despite the 7% ABV), but it isn't my go-to style these days. My rating reflects the blend of my respect for the brew, and my own preference for a different malt profile.

This beer continues a very abnormal trend for me: 8 of my last 10 reviews have been +rDev! :grimacing:

    Cheers, NBSers!

    New Beer of Sundays Past/Passed?
I am currently working on a new one right now, and plan to knock out another later. For now, I present the one I didnt have time to share last Sunday.

I had seen a lot of talk about this beer and I am a big root beer fan, so despite my hesitation, I paid $12 for a six pack as singles wer not an option.

It smells and tastes just like root beer. Sassafras/Sasparilla and vanilla. Alcohol is fairly noticeable for 6%, but I suppose it is going to be difficult to mask given the flavors though. Don't get me wrong. It isn't "boozy". I would just guess it was the 10% instead of 5.9. It is what I would expect a splash of vodka in a bottle of IBC would taste like. Carbonation is low, and certainly nowhere close to an actual root beer. It also has a slight artificial sweetner taste to it. Almost like a diet soda. This is mainly in the aftertaste, and brings it down some. Very smooth and easy drinking though.

Overall, I rated this as world class in smell and taste because it does smell and taste exactly like root beer. Not one of the best root beers, but certainly isn't a Mug or Barq's. Well worth the price, and I can't imagine many root beer fans being disappointed with this.

I wish I could say something positive about this beer.
It's appearance is nice, but the aroma and taste are lacking. A little bit of roasted malt and a little bit of pine. Not overly hoppy, so the mouthfeel is a little weak also.
I think I'll use the other two bottles to cook brats.

It appears I'm having Flickr issues, so no picture for now.

    Greetings all,

Got a nice new one for today so I'll be back later on after I finish prepping for the new round of snow/freezing rain/rain moving in us and then tend to Sunday's "honey-do" list.

    Cheers!

Not bad...roasty taste, coffee notes balanced, ABV% a nice boost, bitter enough to not be too sweet, not as thick with viscosity as I anticipated/wanted...but overall seviceable and nice start to a beauty of a Calif. morning

    Cheers to all BA's....

It was stuffed pretty full: mushrooms, green peppers, onions, ham, spices, American cheese (cheddar on the outside)....and the pan was juuuuust a hair too small to get a good turn on it. But it tastes the same no matter how it falls apart. :grinning:

French omelette; nice! My only weekend routine is: start with coffee, shift to beer. :flushed:

Okay two for me today...First up is this had it late last night as Carl Frampton retained his title in Belfast. Although it was last night I thought I could sneak it in as it is not only new to me but new to the site.

Appearance - Pretty standard Lager look, Pale golden streaming body. Poor head but a busy CO2 presence that gives an ever renewing lace cover

Smell - Funky yeast, plenty of pine hops from the USA Australian mix and a mild malt profile.

Taste - An American style hop profile but this is more subdued than an American offering, Mild but present kilned malts that have some sweetness but not over whelming. Mild on all counts but still tasty and more interesting than many a lager.

MF - Actually thin but still smooth enough to be decent and some present but mild linger.

Overall - A distinct improvement on others in the range but still not the most amazing thing you will ever taste. Having said that this has enough flavour to be good and one I will drink long before Harp.

It was a fine night of fighting! Clean and fair. And a boost to NI in general, nice for us to be in the news for summit decent.

And a note of respect to Avalos. It took balls to come to Belfast city and take on Frampton on his home turf. No guts no glory!

I'll find out tomorrow. Probably some Philip Glass, which is what I've been working on the last couple days, and really highlighted the age, limitations, and wear and tear on my current one.

    Good morning all NBS followers,

We had a beautiful sunny day here in NH yesterday so we took the time to get out and about and do some shopping and other things that have been hard to do on the last few weekends with all the snow and other weather issues. But to not escape the toils of winter they are saying the snow will begin to fall here this afternoon.

In our travels yesterday we found our way to the NH coast and then over to Dover in search of the a new local brewery. It was easy to find as it is right on main street. The Garrison City Beerworks. They had 5 beers on tap so we did a sampler flight. They were all good quality beers and I brought home crowlers of 3 of them.

    Garrison City Beerworks
    Anomolous DIPA

This beer poured a very hazy yellow/orange color when poured slowly into my tulip glass. A thin white head about 1/4 inch formed on the top.
The aroma was of tropical fruits with some citrus overtones.
The tropical fruit taste came through in the first sip and continued through out the glass with a little hint of pine as I got deeper into the glass. This is a very easy drinking DIPA
The mouthfeel was smooth and soft.
All in all this is a very good beer from a small new brewery here in NH. I'm looking forward to trying more beers from them as time permits.

Cheers to all and have a great day!

Yeah love it, use herbs harvested my garden, fuss over my folds... I meant to say I do it every weekend.. not weekday (no time while heading to the salt mines those days of course).

I thought about taking a pic, but I was hungry so it of course never lasts long.. Even thought of making a vid of it... but I am sure nobody wants to sit through the madness over my mind of an omelette.

That being said beer to come, and something else to drool over. Box from Florida and lots of new goodies, many I have already had.
