    Good Easter Sunday to all!

Let's see, ham dinner, plenty of sweets, Pens V. Flyers, Card v. Cubs (Go Cards!) and the boy even got an early morning hockey skate in, only thing missing? New beer!

This one pours very similar to this here picture with a little less lacing than what I usually enjoy, but I'm not judging just yet. Super pine nose with just a hint of something in the maltiness family. Tastes pretty ok. Follws teh nose but just a bit more pungent. Seems like a more pungent version of SNPA to be quite honest.

    New American IPA Sunday

Hello all! Around 50 degrees and mostly sunny on this Easter day here in Milwaukee.

Today's choice is from Goose Island. Goose IPA. A nice American IPA. Though I didn't find it to be "particularly" special, it's still enjoyable and a solid example of the style. I gave the appearance a 4 and all other categories a 3.75, which is about in-line with the general average rating of it so far.

Off to cook some Easter ham...

    Enjoy the day!

    Cheers!

I resemble the remarks (situation) about grandchildren. Beers seem to taste better after they leave. :grinning:

Morning or afternoon everyone and happy easter sunday! Today I'm drinking a stout that I've been wanting to try for a long time:
    Great Lakes Blackout Stout

This pours a thick midnight black with about a finger head that has some nice lacing around the top of the glass. On the nose I get burnt chocolate, oak, roasted coffee, and maybe a hint of vanilla. I'm tasting wood notes, licorice bitterness, vanilla, and dark fruits. The feel of this is an easy drinking stout that has a little bitterness and spice to it, at least for me. Overall very solid beer and I'd like to age one to see if the spice I'm tasting would tone down a little bit. Great beer, very thankful to have tried it.

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

    ¡Salud!

New Imperial Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Stout Sunday!

Today is going good for me so far, went to Max's and got a Howler of Maine Beer Company's Another One (My favorite IPA EVAR!)... Well enough of that garbage...time for the new brew!

This brew is recent and I get a chance to drink a "Sunday Morning" brew on a Sunday Afternoon (I like to break the rules sorta speak). Ok the details: This brew pours black with a nice deep khaki head that turned to decent lacing around my glass. Alcohol legs are visible...and Sexy. Very nice looking brew. The fumes from this is very pleasing if you like Coffee Stouts. It's a Melange of Coffee Roast with a cocoa vibe and sweet notes of sugar. A very little hint of oak and toasted nuts is present yet not in yo face, just adding a touch of earthiness. Smells like a nutty piece of fudge actually. Very excited to try this now. The initial flavor is Coffee and hints of toasted oak. The malts are sweet and bring a cookie dough vibe to your taste buds. There's also booze that coats the sides of the palate with slight bitterness. This finishes dry and boozy with a tame bitterness that's neither abrasive nor is it not noticed. Aftertaste of chocolate and coffee with subtle notes of toasted coconut. The feel on this is almost syrupy with tight prickly carbonation that seems out of place.

Overall: I like this brew. Definitely one of my top choices in the Coffee Stout category...if there's a such thing. It is not wowing me at all, but I'd tap this before I'd tap FBS or KBS. That reminds me of the debate going on, is this a KBS Killah? In my Opinion I would gravitate toward this offering because it's not hyped as being the best. It's an enjoyable High Gravity beer that has a decent amount of Complexity and it shits on their other Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. This brew is Recommended.

    Grade: A-

    Musical Selection:

This whole album is just a masterpiece. I hate that I didn't grow up in the mid 1960's when Music started taking a turn for the best. Oh well...

Cheers my fellow New Beer Sunday Crew!

Enjoying a new beer on this beautiful Easter Sunday. Badgers won last night. It is surreal. On Wisconsin! Now on to the beer!

Rye of the Tiger is quite good. A soft rye scent with a sweet citrusy aroma. Orange, grapefruit, and pine hops with a caramel malt.

The rye flavor is rather soft and pleasant, but still has a spice to it. Hops are citrusy, orange, grapefruit, along with pine. Malts are sweet caramel. Finish is bitter. I recommend this beer if you enjoy other rye IPAs.

New Belgian Strong Pale Ale Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's.
and Happy Easter to those who care. Risin' indeed he has.
My beer is more about the previous days than today with Inferno Ale from the Lost Abbey.
Glorious day for a MN Easter. Up to 50 degrees and largely sunny. Perfectly adequate spring day for these parts. Grand kids later today so time for this now. Youngest kid back to school later today.
My trumpet partner this morning is turning 87 soon and can't play as well as he used to and he's starting to recognize it. It's all kinda' sad as the old folks in my life start to lose the pleasurable activities in their live's. Humbling and sad.

    Full Sail Session Premium Lager
This is the beer that finished first in the lager tasting that Eric Asimov did in the NY Times a few weeks ago. This is a very good brew. Crisp, refreshing , balanced everything I look for in a lager. IMO not as good as Brooklyn or Anchor California Lager but can understand why someone might.

Happy NBS Easter edition! Spring finally has decided to stick around here on the southern shore.

Reviewing one from a recent trip to Greenbush in Sawyer Michigan appropriately named 400 Divine Rabbits. Labeled 'ale with agave nectar' with an abv. of 6.3.

Pours a semi cloudy deep gold color with ample egg white foam that lingers. Tiny carbonation bubbles rise to the top.

Aroma is unmistakably agave, but not over the top. There is a burnt sugar quality, as well as a bit of breadiness. Smells a bit like a pastry. Perhaps some Belgian yeast used?

Taste is agave nectar followed by hop bitterness. There is a hint of candy sweetness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is tingly at first. Reminds me a bit of a dubbel. There is a very dry finish that leaves you seeking more. A good thing it's on the 'lighter' side at 6.3 percent.

All said a nice change of pace beer for the warmer weather. More flavor than the traditional wheat beers that start flooding the market around now. I'm a fan, and I'll be drinking some of these while doing my yard work. My score was a 4.02 / rDev 13.6%. Not sure why this shows retired as I believe it's a spring seasonal?

Enjoy your new beers today gang!

One NBS post, three NBS brews.

    Mother's Imperial Three Blind Mice

I have long since forgotten who gave this to me in a trade. It tastes like Old Rasputin: very roasty, leaning toward coffee from the malt (vice chocolate), with some dark, sweet, and slightly tart overripe fruit. A very nice imperial stout, but nothing I'd immediately grab if I saw it on the shelves.

Most people seemed disappointed in this beer; count me out of that opinion! I really, really dug this brew. It had all the flavor of a standard BPA (or even a Saison), but at a very low ABV. This is the kind of session beer I could get behind!

Crisp, clean, lightly tart (lemons), a little sweet, yeast, straw; this has a ton of flavor for the low ABV.

I do not love Belgian IPAs. They are simply not my style. That said, this is a damn good one, as far as they go. There's quite a bit of grapefruit, a touch of pine, and plenty of tropical fruit from the hops. From the yeast, there's a bit of dry spiciness and a fair amount of bubblegum.

It's that interplay I don't like with BIPAs. However, I can't deny that this is a great example.

Look at it this way. The listening experience is a lot better now than it was in the mid-60s. Some of you may say mono recordings have a certain charm - I'm not one of them, unless it's some historic gem of an alternate version or a glimpse into a live recording from that time.
