Hmmm... I might tend towards the old you in that the thought of tart citrus and spearmint scares my palate like some react to nails on a chalkboard. Although my brain would be curious for a taste to prove my palate wrong. It definitely sounds interesting.

Poured into snifter. The color is a beautiful dark, opaque mahogany with reddish hues and a thick, creamy toffee colored head and thick lacing which didn't dissipate. It's a very attractive ale. The smell is strong but pleasant: bourbon, dark fruit, vanilla, and spice. When sipped, the first taste is yeast, followed by cherry, raisin, and a strong rum flavor with a base of dark malt. While I smelled more bourbon, I taste more rum. It's oaky and not sweet at all. The dark fruit is tart-sour. As it warmed in the glass, I'm finally detecting a slight taste of vanilla. It's medium-bodied, pleasantly carbonated, and easy to drink. Overall, this is a fine offering from a very good brewery. While I'd prefer it to be a tad sweeter, it's definitely worth trying!

Neshaminy Creek High Water Hefeweizen nice looking beer thick white head cloudy golden body, yeasty with a lemon finish. The label claims this is an "authentic Bavarian wheat ale". I'll take their word for that. My word is on a hot sunny day this is a great refreshing beer.

Greetings all, decided to open this bottle of Petit Classique from The Commons Brewery in Portland. Had to enter a new listing myself for this one. It's a table saison (4.1% ABV) bolstered with rolled oats and finished with pink peppercorns. Good clean, dry, funky, grassy aroma. Taste is light and crisp, earthy, rustic. A touch of citrus and spice.

And it pairs nicely with this full slab of ribs from what may be my new favorite barbecue joint in Seattle, the BBQ Pit in the Central District (just got home). Cheers!

Good day NBS aficionados! It's been a very busy but fulfilling weekend with parties, the early morning run, and yard work. It's time to chill out back on a mostly sunny and hot, humid day. I'm not complaining as we've been cheated once again from summer weather and I'm hoping this continues into fall.

I'm going with the Stone 19 Anniversary Thunderstruck IPA today. It's labeled as a Double IPA with 100% Australian hops and the abv. Is listed at 8.7%. Sounds right in my wheelhouse!

Pours a clear brilliant gold color with a finger of white foam. The aroma is tropical and dank. Some might say, it smells like weed! The flavor is passion fruit heavy with some grapefruit and pine. There is a butyl-like quality in the finish that isn't off putting. The mouthfeel is hop oily but rather thin, with a bitter dry finish.

All said I really like this beer. It's tropical and dank with a bitter finish. Some past batches of Enjoy By come to mind when drinking this. I picked this up in my beer travels Friday and I'm hoping to score one or two more. My score was a 4.24 / rDev +6%.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cavedave for getting us underway,

Its 73 degrees in the Republik of Spokanistan, which is nice after the roughly 100 degree heat of the middle of the week. Friday night was truly bizarre. A combination of a day-long dust storm and smoke from the wildfires in California and within the state made it a Tatooine-like day, then the wildest looking sunset I’ve seen in years, which I surveyed from the patio at the Swamp Tavern in between the 3rd and 4th quarter of the Seahawk’s preseason opener. Tyler Lockett is a stud, no question, with Coach’s collision with a ref providing a little comic relief. Pete Carroll could well be the most overly-enthusiastic 62 yr old on the planet.

On Friday, I celebrated the end of the work week and having Saturday off with an Oud Bruin that I’ll definitely be having again: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/223/699/?ba=woemad

Today’s first NBS foray was inspired by the thread about drinking beer in the morning. I had a late breakfast of a rather uninspiring microwaved breakfast sandwich (the range went T.U. yesterday, so no pancakes a la @utopiajane :slight_frown:) and coffee, followed by this big boy from Ballast Point: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/199/48505/?ba=woemad

Pretty damn good. What issues I had was that the body was a little thin and there was a little too much alcohol “heat.” I’m thinking of getting another or two and laying them down for a bit to see if that makes a difference. Otherwise a tasty Vanilla Imperial Coffee Porter that did NOT go overboard with the Vanilla (usually that seems to be an issue for me with beers that have Vanilla). Back later with another new beer TBD.

I was utterly stunned by this beer - I did a trade for some SoS with @David_CT (thanks mate!) and he threw a couple of these in to round out the box... holycrapfuckingtastic! Dude just sent me some mango/orange juice cocktail in a beer bottle!

I can't believe how good this beer is, or how ripped I am going to be later, 'cause I have 2 bottles that are going down asap:

L - Deep cloudy orange with a hint of amber at the center. Completely opaque with a fluffy white head that dissipates to leave thick lacing
S - Mango orange fruit cocktail! This stuff smells amazing - bright tropical fruit with mandarin orange
T - more of the same - bright tropical notes with candied orange peel and a burst of OJ freshness - had to check the bottle to see that they hadn't simply sold me a bottle of fruit juice! A touch of pithy bitterness to finish
M - Medium to full with soft fine carb that leaves a velvety mouthfeel

Overall I was wowed by this beer - stunning IPA
    Rating - 4.68

Good afterrnoon fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Killer hot morning of work now a killer hot afternoon of more work at home trying to fix some careless damage done to vehicle. Ugghh. This only pushes back the house work still needs to be done. At least we have a couple of one inch NY Strips for the grill later, as I cherish some time this week with my son, the future meteorologist, who heads back to Vt. on Sat. And of course this beer, Weihenstephaner Original, which I was surprised to find out is the only one of their U.S. imports I have yet to try. Really enjoying it, and it is a definite fire extinguisher.

Took advantage of the fact that the heat index was under 100 for the first time in a while to get some work done outside. It's still hot, but better than the past few weeks.

Back inside and cooling off with another new beer. This one is from a local brewery, Blue Pants, and their Oktoberfest.

Although not a normal style for me, I have enjoyed all of the German inspired beers that Blue Pants has been doing lately so I decided to give it a go. Nice combination of pale malts with just a hint of hops and sweetness. Easily crushable and very refreshing. Very well done.

Good afternoon, BAs! It has been a quiet peaceful day here at the house. Hard to believe, but my wife and I are almost empty-nesters as our youngest is leaving for college next week. I spent most of the morning in the kitchen brewing an IPA for my oldest friend who will be in town this fall, and in-between mocking my beer-geekery, my daughter and I had some beautiful spontaneous conversations about life - as any parent of a teenager will tell you, these moments are rare and precious. I am excited for her as she enters a new phase of life. I think the dogs sense that she will be leaving soon, and they also had some quality moments with her today:

Reflecting on this, I wanted a celebratory beer. Last week, my lovely and thoughtful wife came home with some "requests" after a road trip, including this beauty:

This beer was the perfect companion for a beautiful, memorable afternoon.
Poured into a snifter. There was a deep, dark brown color and a dense 2-finger tan head that hung out for a while. Nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of strong black coffee, cocoa and a hint of vanilla. As billed, the taste was complex and not overdone or one-dimensional: coffee, dark bread, cocoa and roasted malt up front, followed by a pleasantly subtle vanilla and a semi-sweet chocolate finish. Thick and full-bodied but not cloyingly sweet. As it warmed, the vanilla shined. For me, this is one of the few beers that lives up to its hype.

    Cheers, BAs!

    New Session IPA Sunday!

If you guys couldn't tell it was Humid today, not torturous but enough to let you know sweat was abound. The work day was fun...with a touch of boring. Yadda, yadda, yadda...back to the real reason I am here with you guys.

This brew was a courtesy job of @SomethingClever Thank you for the privilege to drink this here brew. Session IPAs is one of those styles that's very Love it or Hate it (depending on people's tastes), I actually enjoy a Sessionable Hoppy Brew. Let's get down to business, shall we? For starters this pours gorgeous, nice medium Amber body with a soapy white head. Hop Haze is visible. Looks Outstanding to me! Ok I'm diving in for the Aroma! First wave of citrus goodness (tangerines, and grapefruit meat). On the back end some grains, slightly toasted rye. Smells up my alley! Flavah, Flav! There's the citrus to the front with an underlaying passion fruit juice in mid palate. Finishes smooth and on time with some hop spice and slightly toasted rye grains. Some bitterness is left behind with a lingering citric acid in the aftertaste. The feel of the brew should be a simple one, actually it has some heft. Medium-light with scrubbing Carbonation. Very nice.

Overall: I like this brew a lot. There's Citrus for days with some Tropical Fruit esters in the middle. Very refreshing and has a touch of rawness to it ! That dig. Is this my favorite Session IPA? No. Is it worth drinking? Yes. This brew is Worthy!

    Grade: B+/A- material.

    New American IPA Sunday

Hello all! Beautiful day here in Milwaukee! Around 90 (with a nice soft breeze). Today's beer is a one-timer limited edition from 3 Sheeps. Oakey Dokey - A barrel aged IPA - very enjoyable! Get it if you can! I scored it a 4.13. The different woods make it complex, the hops stand out enough, and it is easy to drink/smooth. A brewing work of art.

Going outside to enjoy this beautiful weather, so that's all the new beer for me today.

    Cheers!

This is the first weekend in a long time where I didn't go for a bike ride...and that's 100% fine by me.
Spent yesterday morning (and early afternoon, unfortunately. What ever happened to the four-hour round @lordofthewiens?) playing golf with a really good friend who I hadn't seen in six months. Despite not playing for six months, still carded an 84 (humble-brag: it included two doubles and a triple) and, most importantly, didn't have to open my wallet at the end of the round. Despite the 95+ degree heat and the smoke filled skies, fun was had by all.
Could have saddled up today, but alas:
    1) It's even hotter today, so close to the century mark
    2) There is still a ton of smoke in the air and when you're hearts beating 80-90%, breathing in lungs of smoke filled air isn't great. .
    3) It's the final round of the PGA
    4) It's NBS
Maybe as a result of what we here in the Bay Area call Indian Summer (our official summer since we really only have two seasons: warm and hot) I'm moving towards lower ABV beers, which includes Kolsch.
    This is a great one
    [IMG]
Really nice hue with a thin finger of creamy head.
A great, bright taste that lingers in the mouth. I could close my eyes, mute the PGA and sip this and think I was back in Deutschland.
I'm not as wordy when it comes to describing my beers as most of you all, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them any less.
    Prost, cheers and slainte!
