    Afternoon folks.
Another weekend in the books. Six more days and this time next Sunday I'll have my toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand (I'll refrain from posting the Zac Brown video) in Puerto Vallarta, where New Beers may be hard to come by (or stomach if they are). But bet your ass I'll hoist many a Mexican beers in that heat and humidity!
Great morning today. 40 miles and over 4000' of climbing on the bike today. I rock an Arrogant Bastard jersey and feel every bit as Arrogant as the jersey advertises as I blow past guys on $5-10,000 bikes while I'm in the saddle of a much cheaper bike. It's the same ride I did last Sunday and I trimmed three minutes off of last weeks time.
So, long story long, I've earned this beer.
Pours a murky brown (the call is hazelnut but whatever) with about a thumbs worth of mocha head that slowly fades but remains on the sides of the glass.
Flavor is a crisp as advertised on the label with a subdued tartness. Not as crisp as a standard farmhouse style, possibly due to the "noir" aspect.
Mouthfeel is...meh. Pretty light and thin and the flavor itself fades rather quickly.
It's easy to write a short review when your underwhelmed. SARA does good stuff allegedly. My experience is only three or four beers. But this isn't great. Fair perhaps, maybe good (especially if you like the style), but by no means great.

Now up a new local IPA, Burley Oak Secret Sauce. A solid IPA, nice to have something more piney and good since most of the IPAs I've been really liking lately have been super citrus/tropical fruit froward.
    4.25/5rDev n/a
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

12 oz can poured into a snifter

A- A clear reddish color with a two finger off white head.

S- Malty for an IPA, but still plenty of hops, some citrus, mandarin oranges, some tropical fruits, piney, earthy spice, camerel malt backbone.

T- A lot hoppier than the nose, but still a nice sweet malt backbone, big piney finish with some resin, citrus, tropical fruits, some oranges, earthy spices, malt backbone is just enough.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A solid IPA, one of the better IPAs from MD. Better than Aboriginal Gangster. Worth giving it a try. Well done! (569 characters)

Afternoon NBS-ers! Just started raining here in Central Florida, TS Erika or what's left of her is gonna give us some precipitation and a little flooding tonight.
So I figured I'd keep it local with this beer I picked up a few weeks ago, and forgot it was in the fridge
    [IMG]
    Well here is goes..
Looks like an amber lager; orange and amber colored, thin white head that hangs around for a sort period of time.
Smells like an older IPA, degraded hop presence and a syrupy sweet aroma, slight wet cardboard. Might be an old bottle?
Tastes just like the smell; sweet, with bready malts and a little lemony aftertaste.
Feel is dry, not much carbonation; needs more in my opinion. It is thirst quenching though.
Overall, to my this is just another run of the mill lager; sweet and dry. Happy I only bought one in a mix-a-six.

    Cheers!

There is a group of numbers that is stamped on the label "091815" I assume this is a best by date, or a randomly applicable set of numbers.

Pours paler gold, or golden yellow if you prefer. About 90% clear. Large, fluffy white head that leaves a bunch of lacing. Too bad you can't post video in the review because the tiny bubbles on the side wall shimmer like glitter as they cascade back down the glass into the beer.

It smells like sweet pale malts, and citrus fruits with a touch of floral/herbal hops.

There is nothing negative about the flavors, but they are not very assertive either. Some lemon with some grapefruit sourness. Grassy and floral hops. Sweet, biscuit grains on the back end. Fairly bland, it really falls off more toward the end. A solid bitterness overall though.

Pretty well carbonated. Decent amount of resin.

A good beer. Not a great IPA in my opinion. Drinks more like a hoppy pale ale really.

I'm back for another on a lazy humid Sunday and hiding in the cave. I'm going with a bomber of Pipeworks Hallertau Blanc Imperial IPA. It has an abv. of 10% and no apparent bottle date or batch code. I'm pretty certain it was a recent release. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and refrigerated it immediately. Let's see what awaits.....

It pours a rather clear pale orange-gold color with a finger of white frothy foam. The aroma in one sometimes overused word, dank. It's passion fruit up front with some spicy weed and butyl. The flavor is passion fruit, guava, and butyl in the finish. It's one biting and dank beer with a crisp somewhat dry finish.

All said, I'm a fan. I can see this possibly being too much for folks that aren't fans of spicy-weed hop bombs. I'm not one of them. I'm not sure if these are still lingering around on shelves, but I'd certainly welcome buying more. A really solid beer by Pipeworks.

Great posts thus far, looking forward to more of your new beer adventures. Link to full review and score....

    New Pilsner Sunday!

The day was Humid as all get out, so the work day was sticky icky. Well time for me to enlighten you all with a New Brew!

Courtesy of a Great BA @JayWhitson Thank You for the Porch Bomb!

Ok, back to the brew. This pours a cloudy straw blonde with a nice soft white head. Not as filtered as expected but I have no issue with it's appearance. This looks Great to me! The aroma is next and I cannot wait! First hits the nostrils with that Rustic Grain aroma with a back drop of Corn. Second wave hits with a biscuit malt and some leafy hop flare. Smells Banging and right up my alley! As this warms there's a nice hint of fruity esters in the background evening the score. The FLAVA brings what the nose was talking about with more pronounced biscuit malts and notes of floral hops. Flavor is packing some refreshing and hearty richness that's balanced by a dry finish. Crisp and Clean, they way I like my Pilsner! There's an aftertaste of Biscuits and subtle notes of Apple Skin. The feel on the palate is playful and light with active Carbonation, feels like the bubbles are massaging my tastebuds.

Overall: For such a little Modest Beer this is packing some Enjoyment for me! It's an above Average Pilsner with enough of a hop kiss to keep it interesting and not an IPL. This is an Excellent Pilsner that doesn't lack Depth or Refreshment. This brew is Recommended!

    Grade: A

Cheers my Fellow New Beer Sunday Crew!

    Howdy, NBSers!

Football season began in earnest this week ... we finished the annual high school special section Monday, then survived the first Friday night of the year, and now I'm working the one Sunday a year I have to work thanks to the Texas A&M special section. Football rocks ...

Here's proof that work is happening (Monday's front page of sports for the B-CS Eagle, missing quite a bit):

Work, work, work ... is there no time for beer?

Hooray, there is! Or was ...

(snuck this in about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after Saturday's work; officially a new beer for me on Sunday :stuck_out_tongue:)

XX Bitter seems likely to be De Ranke's answer to the American hop craze, but it's FAR from the average American hop beer. It's Belgian in almost every way with only its big hop bite being Americanized. The flavors range from musty barn and earth (farmhouse ale) to a ton of fruity flavors most like strawberries, cantalope and cherries and a slight brett twang that's very Orval-like. In fact, XX Bitter is a lot like drinking a hopped-up Orval. There's also some grassiness to the hop flavor, and there's quite a bit of sweetness ... hard to tell how much from malt and how much from hop flavor/yeast/???.

For this NBS I am having my first Marzen of the year in the shape of Ballast Point Dead Ringer

Vibrant and crystal clear mahogany with a nice thick beige head that leaves behind just a gentle amount of lacing as only a thin fizz layer and foam ring last longer than a few minutes.

Plenty of nuttiness on the nose followed by a cedary bitter sting.

Taste is immediately caramel but quickly transforms into nutty until the bitterness finishes out with a touch of green olive. Just a tiny amount of warmth in the throat, but nothing "hot" about it.

I enjoyed this a lot but it blurs the line between Marzen and Baltic Porter.
