pours orange with head that stays for the tasting
I get maltiness and some bread dough.no aftertaste and a ghost like sweetness on the tongue
and i thought this beer was very enjoyable perhaps with pepperoni pizza
a solid 4/5 good enough for me!

I love how you said the caramel presence was expected on the palate because it was in the nose. That is a very important concept in beer tasting and in the defiintion of style .

Thanks. Don't know if anyone picked up on my calling it a "week heavy" in the review before I fixed it. Sounds like a name for a punk band, or an ironic term for what it was.

    New IPA Sunday continues...

    Victory Vital IPA

Troegs Hop Knife didn't really do it for me, but this one from another long-time favorite local brewery is hitting the mark.

Clear gold with huge white head and thick lacing. (Actually took the photo above a couple minutes after the pour.)

It's got a complex aroma of stanky hops, biscuity malt and some orange rind and lemon. It's almost like a Belgian with the mix they've got going. All notes continue to the taste, well balanced with the malt and a moderate hop bitterness for the style.

Fairly light-bodied, with just a touch of creaminess and good carbonation. The stank and the lemon/citrus, with the good balance overall, make this a great IPA. Eagles are picking things up a bit, too.

I usually post a lot earlier on NBS but this morning I ran my 3rd marathon. Such a feat requires a rather large dimpled mug of Paulaner Oktoberfest Wiezn to celebrate. And it is a new beer to me, so let's do this!

After filling my mug with three bottles, a huge white foamy cap remains. It recedes to a thick soapy film eventually. Large patches of foamy lacing remain. The body of the beer is a clear light straw color, leaning toward a golden hue. To put it on layman's terms: it looks like the classic golden beer we all see in old adds, cartoons, or movies.

The aroma is full of spicy hops. Almost a minty trait about it. Bready malts come in soon after with traces of biscuits and buttered bread.

The taste mimics the aroma with a pretty sharp and spicy hop bite up front. The malts seem more subdued -- but I do get a lot of buttered bread and a sufficient amount of lightly toasted grains. The hops really cover up the malts, with a slightly dry, hoppy finish.

The mouthfeel is medium to light and goes down easily.

Overall: I knew this wasn't going to be a caramel malt bomb, but I didn't expect such a spicy hop element either. Good, but I'll stick to the traditional Paulaner marzen which I will be drinking after this. And maybe later I will do another new beer -- a gose from a brewery in my home state.

That's an achievement, running a marathon even once, let alone three times (sez the guy who can't run if his life depended on it). Congrats, and thanks for the mention of that beer. I'll be grabbing it if I can find it locally.

    Love & Marriage & NBS

    A little Sunday morning preaching...

Should you ever (like me) remarry late...er, ...let's just say "later" in life, make ABSOLUTELY sure the person you're marrying is damn near PERFECT!!!!

Or I wouldn't suggest doing it.

I don't think this "damn near perfect" person needs to share your same personal problem with beer, but they better understand and accept that there is NO WAY IN THE DEVILS RAGGING INFERNO that they are EVER going to change your deeply commitment relationship with your other love. Great beer.

This kind of text I received the other day from my new wife (of 3 years) seems to happen on a regular basis with no coaching from me.

I sometimes fear I married a Succubus. :grimacing:

Don't be fooled by the above image. These things aren't human.
It would be a horrifically dangerous marriage.

    The new Stone Ruination 2.0
We had to let the original Ruination go back in the spring, so I'm a little late to the alter with this new version.

The green font has been replaced with some true blond typography. It's sexy, full bodied, lively, vital, sweet,
not too bitter, and TOTALLY willing to please!

I trusted Ruination 2.0 NOT to hurt me or break my beer heart! "The Glory of the Hop" is alive and well.

Therefore, I love you Ruination 2.0.
    Me & you...forever.

    New Hoppy Saison Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
From a nearly balmy October day in SCMN. My local boys are on a bye so it's a good (can I say almost too warm?) day to get outdoors things done while periodically checking out the games on phone and TV?
It's also warm enough for an end of the summer saison from a local brewery that likes to do Belgian styles.
This drinks more like an autumn beer with a alcohol towards the higher end, a heavier feel and strong hop finish. Overall goes well with the day.

Good afternoon from sunny central New Hampshire and many thanks to Maria for the wonderful send off this morning. We have been lucky enough to avoid the early frosts so far here at home so we still have flowers blooming in the garden and the hydrangea has turned a deep rose color this fall much darker than the past few years.

I guess now is the time to move on to my beer for this Sunday and it comes from Peak Organic Brewing in Portland, Me.
This wasn't the beer I had chosen yesterday but found this at a local bottle shop this morning and had been wanting to try it.
Peak Organic Super Fresh. This 16oz can wasn't super fresh but just 30 days old.
This beer pour a light golden color into my tulip glass with a minimal amount of cloudiness.
The nose of this beer is perhaps a little subdued. I think the pilsner malts tend to overshadow the nose you get from the great hops in this beer.
But moving on to the taste the dry hopping of this beer comes through loud and clear. Lots of nice citrus flavors with a great bitterness in the after taste. This beer is a great example of what a great dry hopping can do for the flavor of a beer.
The mouth feel is crisp and clean from the pilsner malt with a little lingering bitterness from all the hops.
This IMO is a wonderfully done beer in the pilsner style perhaps not traditional due to the amount of hops used in the finish. Perhaps the only beer I can compare this to is Long Trails Smash Project which was a pilsner malt with galaxy hops. This due to the blend of hops used here is a step above.
This beer will become a steady member of my beer cooler in the future.

We had one Lasagna that didn't get cooked for yesterdays gathering so we just took it out of the oven and are planning on taking it to a friend and his wife who is undergoing chemo right now for her battle with breast cancer.
Cheers to all on this wonderful day and perhaps if time permits I'll be back with the beer I had originally chosen for today.

    New IPA Sunday...

    4Hands Resurrected IPA

    Third quarter, third new IPA.

Hazy orange-amber color with a finger-and-a-half of white head and good lacing.

Orange hop aroma with a little crackery malt hidden beneath.

Orange flavor continues into the taste with some sweetness and just enough malt backbone. No real bitterness to speak of. Medium bodied, with a touch of pepperiness.

Not bad for the "juicy" IPAs genre; I like it because it has more malt profile than others. A lot of the current favorites taste too much like watered-down fruit juice to me. This strikes more of a balance.

Not as good as Vital IPA, but better than Hop Knife.

There were actually 4 pans like that made yesterday we cooked 3 for the crowd here at the house and that one was left over. Not sure if it makes 10lbs but I know there was 5 lbs of meatballs and 5 lbs of sausage that along with lots of sauce and cheese that went into the 4 pans.

New Wet Hop IPA Sunday (week 555)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Big thanks to Maria for getting us going today, as she rescued you all from a grotesque attack of alliteration that was to be the opening today I had planned and written. It was an awful assortment that made even me cringe, but you all were spared. For a week, anyway.

This beer is from Black Hog, a brewery that has always gone for the gusto, as gramps used to say, in those few beers of theirs I have tried. This one is no exception @DrunkinYogi knows I am a dyed in the wool hop fanatic and he sure picked out a beer that was designed with my mind in mind. Holy Hop Heaven this is a bitter beer. Digging the hell out of it, but I don't recommend this if you aren't a card carrying lupulinista.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!
