What's up NBS Easter addition. Hit my sister in-laws for the afternoon and threw the football around and played wiffle ball with my nephews. Had a couple bottles of Tropical Bitch, tropical Belgian ipa, from Flying Dog while pitching. A pretty nice beer and I'm not even a huge Belgian guy. Unable to photograph and post due to the activities.
I'm home now and back at it with yet another fine beer from @Prager62 . Jim, you tired of hearing your name called yet? Only like 15 more times to go.

The new beer is Delusion, an imperial cream stout aged in whiskey barrels from the koval distillery, from Greenbush brewing co. The brew comes in at 11.7% and a bottle date of 11/23/15.

A black oil slick pour with a tan head. A nose of bourbon sugars, and wood. Big time bourbon notes hit right to the palate on the first few sips. Lots of nice woody and sugar tones carry over from the nose and barrel. Smooth as all hell on the finish with a slight lactose aftertaste. The cream stout really adds some depth with vanilla flavors and I really get a sort of marshmallow feel from it. The mouth feel is a bit lighter than I had anticipated, slightly sticky but with more on an oily feel to it. I barley notice to alcohol as it drinks dangerously fast.

Overall, an excellent beer. Slightly different, but the flavors really deliver and I'm really impressed. I'm in the low to mid 4's all around. If I had access, I would buy and drink as much of this as I could.

UVa had the opportunity to make this season really something by taking the next step, and they failed. They played themselves into a solid team (started out a bit overrated, IMO), and were given a route they could handle. But Syracuse just out-hustled them and hit shots when UVa could not.

One last beer after that disappointment. I figure it represents my mentailty: the game was there for UVa: Green light to the Final Four up 15, but in a Flash it was gone, which left me hot, and now there is a dark cloud over my head. So here is Dia De Los Serranos (is that be correct Spanish grammar??):

That head is very nice!! Frothy foam that leave sheets of powdered cocoa-like lacing down the glass as I sip. On a cold beer, there is a light unsweetened chocolate note and a bit of the pepper coming out, but very light. First sips on a cold brew basically back this up - maybe a more generic roasted note than chocolatey, but the pepper does come through late taste, and the light burn sneaks up on you.

Mid warmth, both the chocolate and pepper notes open up a tad, but still not a very powerful nose. The feel is a nice balance of body and smoothness early, and a little raw and biting with the bitterness and pepper in the end. I think the roasted notes are basically in line with the nose at this point, leaning chocolatey with a little more spicy than vegetal pepper note backing it up.

I'll sip the last half of this without writing, but the pepper is coming through more in the nose as I sign off, and the burn is starting to build up a tad (but is not even near a two alarm fire or anything). Actually I think this is a near perfect amount of heat joining a nice roasted malt stout.

My new beer on this Zombie/Lich Jesus Day of 2016 was none other than Prairie Artisan Ales' BOMB! And it was indeed like a taste explosion of awesomeness for my palate!

Cheers everyone! New Beer Sunday Easter Edition was a funk filled free for all! ( the pun, get it?) Thank you all for sharing your reviews and your holiday with all of us. between this and WBADYN yesterday I need a rest! YOU are the reason NBS is fresh informative and fun.

Thank you @kerry4porters for the lovely set of glasses from my favorite brewer. You even replaced the goblet I loved so much and broke. When I first started drinking beer people warned me. They said you don't collect glasses now, but wait.

Now? Yes now.

Rock out with your bock out is coming up on the April 2 and if you did not get enough orval there is a live tasting of celebrator as well! I am going to start my Monday with a poem just because it is Monday again.

I did have a few new beers this afternoon but couldn't document them or take note as I was busy enjoying company. Imagine that. Haha. It's just a reminder why I enjoy drinking quitely at home though.

Anyway, today's beer was sent to me by @TongoRad simply for commenting in a thread that I really wanted to try it but wasn't going to see distribution to New Mexico. I've said it before, he is a gentleman and a true BA (and also will be on the receiving end of NM goodies here soon).

Anyhow, today's beer is Schlenkerla Fastenbier which is a lentenbier and I guess one I should have been drinking during Lent, not now that it ended but hell, I rarely go to church so who am I to quibble?

Here are my thoughts:

500mL bottle poured into a seidel.

Okay, I probably shouldn't have given it the vigorous straight pour that I often do with other beers when using an oversized tulip. Bad idea here. Haha. This thing's got head on it. Tons. Sudsy like a kitchen sink with half a bottle of dish sap and frothy like a root beer float. Deep caramel body with lighter brown hues at the base of the glass. 5

Schlenkerla does an aroma like no other. If you take a whiff of their brews and don't think smoked ham, bacon and campfire, then you're probably a vegan that's never left the city and that's still no excuse. This fastenbier is no exception. All types of smoked sensations reach the nostrils. It's aggressive and I'm always a fan. Love it. One thing I note here aside from the smoky characteristics is an earthy, lightly floral hop aroma. Love that too. 4.5

The flavor is a departure of sorts from the nose in that it's not as unapologetically smoky as the nose. Caramel malt flavor, sweet bread and even some dark fruit notes and hints of ark chocolate. The finish lingers with smoke and bitter earthy and grassy hop notes. A little warmth really opens up the malt flavors. 4.25

As I've found with all of the Schlenkerla beers I drink, the feel is full, rich, creamy and yet still very satisfying and refreshing. Where some might be taken aback by the smoky feel on this that is slightly accentuated by the bitter hops, this is the appeal for me. But don't be mistaken, the smokiness isn't overwhelming or egregious, it's as measured and thoughtful as one can expect from German beers. 4.5

This beer just does it on all levels. Rich, full, dare I say aggressive flavors that would and should satisfy the current American palate. But as I drink this, it occurs to me that while this beer is everything an outstanding, distinct, memorable and highly sought after beer should be, it lacks in one department and that's the rarity/hard-to-obtain area. That's fine with me.
