I've really enjoyed reading all the New Beer Sunday reviews. Got some new brews to imbibe!
So, this is my first entry for New Beer Sunday, and I am going with Three Philosophers brewed by Ommegang brewery.
I sipped this beer in a pint glass while reading my book on the back patio. Definitely a lick-your-lips afterward beer. Nice taste of cheery-oak that lingered after sips on the tongue and lips. Oaky/dark cherry/nutty aroma, with a tiny bit of carbonation. Definitely not thick on the tongue, and, may I dare say . . . similar to a barley wine? Poured with a one-finger head, and a beautiful mahogany cloudy red. Somewhat reminded me of Mad Elf, but not as acidic.
    Cheers!

I pulled this from a $1.49 styrofoam cooler on my deck. It is a remnant from the dinner party we hosted last night. Certainly not the temperature-control that the modern world can exert on its beers - when it decides to function. Yesterday it decided to go on vacation with unheeded warnings. All available cooler, playmate and basement refrigerator space was used for all non-beer related items - there was no time to debate or argue what was the most critical component to a successful party. Why had we put that little college dorm room refrigerator in storage? It all went off very nicely, ending with a insightful round of Thinking and Drinking. https://www.beeradvocate.com/mag/13959/thinking-drinking-getting-to-know-friends-and-beer/

Always a bit wary of the variety packs but SN rarely does not strike a chord with me and after hours of rearranging perishables I did not have much time to think about putting together a customized spread. More interesting than a lager but not as interesting as an ale. Had high hopes as the Nooners that I was drinking last night from the pack were excellent, but New Beer Saturday this is not.

Done with Sunday chores, sitting down to this.
Lashes pours brownish/reddish gold, large head in picture faded in about 2 minutes.
The smell is caramel, malty, brown sugar.
Taste is more balanced, hops make themselves known as the tongue empties.
Not quite up there with some better red ales, but hey.
Prosciutto and cheese tastes real good.

Wow, Terry!!! Your first submission was quite the opening salvo. I'm inspired. Good to see one of our own spreading their proverbial wings. I found it to be really well written for both the neophyte to beer and the geek that knows their way around our zymurgical world. Well done, Sir.

Had a new beer with brunch, 2SP/Terrapin Imperial Thai Fighter Imperial Rye Stout.
Would rate it around a 4.25, hints of rye, bittersweet chocolate, some coffee, some nice dark fruits, well done.

    Happy New ESB Sunday!

Did a nice hike today, sunny/some big ass white clouds, low 80s, windy at times. Will go over to the GJ Rockies double header today, since we missed out on last nights game because of heavy rain/flooding. Riley Pint should be pitching the night game. Always a joy to drink something from this brewery, and this is no exception, pretty tasty.

    Welcome, and nice first post!!

He was still alive last I checked, but doing the "dead man's float" more often than not, before the GF took my glass up. I sort of wanted to take him/her outside and watch a drunken fly attempt to live up to itself. But I was fearful he'd attempt to share my next beer, too :astonished::slight_frown:.

Anyhow, been grooving to a strange playlist here at the brewery, and reviewed this one sans picture taking:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/68/37014/?ba=cjgiant#review

I fell more in line with The Bros than the world on this one. I think it had all the makings of a nice Belgian White with no to very little spice. Allagash and Optimal Wit (local well-known version) have spices added. I could not find much spice in this beer, and no idea if any were added.

That didn't detract from my enjoyment. A very wheat cereal and earthy brew with a smooth if a tad thin feel. I could see this being a benefit of having it at the source, but I enjoyed sipping it and listening to old school hip hop like this.

"I know what Bo don't know."

    New Saison Sunday (week 598)

Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Hot day today, but much less humid than yday, and I didn't sweat through my clothing like yesterday either. Much more relaxed at work, as last month was our annual push, and August is always slower and less taxing. Today was perfect.

This beer also is perfect for today, as it is brewed by a friend of mine, and this friend of mine is an expert on yeast. Not just in the normal way of many beer brewers and lovers, but he collects wid yeast and has a group of friends who also collect and share, he has a great 14 carboy bug farm that includes these wild collected as well as bugs and yeast taken from commercial beers, and he spent a year eating nothing but fermented foods, so he pretty much didn't eat a meal that didn't include yeast. Not kidding about the year of fermented food, you can read about it in his just-published book, The Fermented Man. He, of course, is Derek Dellinger, brewmaster at Kent Falls.

This beer is in Kent Falls Field Beer series and is brewed with spelt. I have never had anything, beer included, that had spelt as an ingredient, so have no idea if I will recognize the taste contribution, but here goes. Sorry about the stock photo, but my camera went nuts yesterday, and even though it is recharged and "working" now, it refuses to upload to my computer. The beer in my glass is darker than the one in the pic.

It pours a cloudy light amber color with a quick to reduce off white topper that settles into a thin ring and small bubble islands that hang on for the ride.

Nice rounded tart and crackery grain aroma with lighter notes of lemon-limey and even lighter notes of spice and earth.

The taste is a wonderful rendition of the aroma, with the spice revealed as a light pepper flavor, and the malt distinguishing itself as a delicious mixture of raw wheat and an unkown graininess I assume is the spelt. Well balanced, clean, and bright taste that is quite delicious.

Spritzy carb. and medium viscosity that ends in a clean as a whistle finish of tasty tart and hints of earth that leave it just juicy enough. Refreshing, interesting.

Highly recommended for its subtle differences from other saisons, its clean flavors, and its refreshing nature.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

    Welcome to NBS!

I'm thinking I may have to revisit 3 Philosophers, as I can't remember when I last had it or anything else from Ommegang. Food for thought as to what I can do as a contribution to @cjgiant's Throwback Thursday thread.

The lawn has been mowed. Time for more beer.

Lucky 13 Mondo is a darker amber with some rust color and 3 finger dirty white head that slowly fades into a cap and leaves webbed lacing all over my glass. Sweet and roasted malts, caramel with some breadiness. Bitter piney hops follow along with citrus.Sweet malts and caramel up front overtaken by hops in the middle and finish. Some citrus, more bitter pine and a bit of earthiness dominate after the malts. Finish is a nice pine bitter.Medium body and very good carbonation with a bitter and dry finish. Solid beer from Lags that reminds me of a few local offerings.

Greetings NBS and thanks to @Prager62 for the birthday shoutout! It is indeed my birthday so I decided to pick up a beer that cost more than my age . Luckily it is tasting incredible and I am very thankful for being able to enjoy such a fine beer today.

    My thoughts...

    4.61/5 rDev +4.1%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.5

Pours a deep black with a head that disappears fairly quickly and has a foam that circles around the glass but nothing in the middle. The smell is very sweet. Vanilla, almond, roasted pecans, coffee, and dark chocolate. The taste is even better! The bourbon and honey comes through right away along with brown sugar, roasted nuts, and chocolate. Also a lingering vanilla flavor makes this one quite sweet which is just fine by me. It is an incredibly smooth beer and has one of the best feels, easily up there with the other world class barrel aged stouts that I've had. Overall it's a special beer and is definitely not worth 30 dollars but for a special occasion this fits the bill perfectly.

Cheers NBS! Looking forward to reading through the rest of the reviews and cracking into some more great brews :sunglasses:

Good afternoon beer lovers and thank to @cavedave for the kickoff. Which I have to give him much credit for- get up and write a stimulating intro like that before work and before a beer.
Kudos! Spent some time in Newport yesterday. Unfortunate wasn't a very good beer trip. But we stayed away from the tourists and the views were spectacular despite the weather being so-so. Back to work this am so time for a new beer:
Valentins Weissbier - served cold from a 32 oz "oil can"

Was going to pour into my Paulaner Oktoberfest glass that fits the can but decided against it
Pours a hazy burnt gold color with a huge mousse-like head that lingers quite awhile with lots of world map lacing.
Aroma is classic Weiss- banana, clove, bubble gum and some yeasty wheat bread notes.
Taste is a little less impressive with lots of lemony tartness and some minimal fruity esters. Wheat, clove and banana- simple but not in anyway terrible. Theres is a slight metallic taste that creeps in but not too offensive.
body is medium/light with a crisp finish with high carbonation that keeps this a refresher.
Overall not a bad beer. Certainly could see bringing a few of these tailgating or camping for the price and the novelty of the "oil can". Not a high ranking Weiss but fairly true to style.
    For NewOldVinylSunday.....
Have a great week. And as always thanks for taking the time.......

This beer is espresso and stout and espresso! A very decadent coffee stout, creamy, chewey, wonderful beer. I'm more of a coffee in the morning, beer in the evening guy, but this could be a weekend alternative, start early probably finish early at 8.7 ABV. Cheers BAs

Central Waters Rye Barrel Chocolate Porter, 9.5% ABV. Pours thin and black, one finger tan head that dissipates quickly, leaving excellent lacing. Nose is strong chocolate, some malt, rye. Taste follows, plus sweetness, and very slight bitter rye close. Carbonation is heavy, detracting a bit from the mouthfeel. Overall excellent and stout-like.
