    Well Hello Late Night NBS!!!

What a great 600th New Beer Sunday.
And with Dave's musings inspiring some reflection, pondering, and even a little venting (not typed on my part-but certainly shared here in my home), I am STILL truly grateful for the warm little corner of our inter webs that is NBS. Good to hear from Matt as well. Cheers Brother!

Here in SoCal, well, it's hot. And of course we have fires. The mountains north of the San Gabriel Valley looked like a volcanic eruption earlier in the week. Vast, wide, towering plumes of smoke. I've seen quite a few, but this one is big and fast moving. I have massive respect for those who fight these fires.

As for me, I missed the first Throwback Thursday. Damn!!! But, I'm definitely sharpening some knives in anticipation for our simian soap opera that shall be known as NBS BIF #4.

And then there's this little beer. Mendocino Brewing's Rock Point Session IPA.
Mendocino is one of those early birds in what we called the Craft Beer Revolution. They were an early one, but they kinda fell off the radar of a lot of lovers of beer. I believe this is because they didn't keep up with many of the other breweries that were constantly inspired to try new, and even old, styles. And as more and more breweries came along, Mendocino seemed to just fall into the background. I don't say this with any disrespect, just my opinion.

    Rock Point Session IPA
    3.7/5 rDev +5.4%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Pours a slight amber tinged gold with a bursting, fluffy white head that tries to leap out of the glass. Cloud-like in fluff, then retreats to a consistent half-finger. Clotting more than lacing on the glass. Aroma is floral citrus and honey, maybe a hint of peach. Such a great nose. Taste is definitely weaker than the nasal propaganda. A generic hop bitterness leads followed by some grainy bread dough sweetness, finally a hint of resin. Finish is somewhat dry. Mouthfeel is slick and mild in carbonation. Overall, if this beer could follow the nose a bit more I'd be a regular buyer.

Put perfectly. Could not agree with you more. It is an amazing time to be a fine beer lover, and an amazing time to be able to share that love with like minded souls like you. Willingness to explore and willingness to learn, that should be the motto of NBS right there.

Welcome aboard. This is a great thread where we share a bit about ourselves (if you want to) and openly duscuss new to you beers. Picked a good one for your first post! Down a way in this linked thread says something about posting pictures. It is also a good, general lay of the land. Pictures are encouraged for What Beer Are You Drinking Now (WBAYDN) and certainly here at NBS!

Dont touch any other, ummm, delicate body parts either! We damn near had to evacuate the house last year when I sauteed a bunch of habaneros on the stove...

She: dont you think you ought to do that outside like you usually do?
Me: Nah...there aren't a lot and the gas bottle is empty, it will be ok.

Another shining example of famous last words and wifely wisdom. Coughing, eyes streaming waterfalls...it was ugly.

Big thanks to all for your excellent descriptions of beers that set my taste buds into desire for sure, and I wager did the same to everyone else's too. Three beers that are officially on my radar now are
    Trillium Secret Stairs Boston Stout
    Hidden Cove Sangio
    Lagunitas12th Of Never
and still looking for Allagash Golden Brett, a desire from a past NBS. It was sold out where I last saw it, and haven't been able to find it anywhere else. The message I need to learn better, and now repeat here, is that the time to buy a great beer is when you see it! And of course Sierra Nevada/Mahr's Oktoberfest was already on the list, but now moved higher after reading the fine descriptions here.

Monday has sprung, and for many it means a return to work, for me it means my week long "weekend" begins (semi retired don't ya know), but for all of us it means another wonderful virtual get together ends. See ya next Sunday. Cheers!
