Saw this as a single at the bottle shop yesterday, and figured what better way to end the summer of pils on NBS than with a German Pilsner.

This one's a little over two months old. Love the canned on and enjoy by dating on these. Excellent can art, too, down to the black pull tab. It pours a hazed corn yellow with three fingers of airy white head.

There's a nice aroma of sweet light malts, flowery hops and a little pear. Light bodied and light tasting with just a little of the sweet character from the nose front palate and a moderate hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

Pretty solid pilsner. I like it. Enjoy your Sundays everyone. Shout out, too, to NBS BIF 4. Did my first BIF in the last round, and had a great time.

Do my CANstant puns bother you? Sorry, but it is inherent in my genes as my late father was Pop Corn as I was growing up. The ability to pun is admirable & I was duly impressed on Friday night, watching Clownvis Presley open for Mac Sabbath in PHL.

I don't think this beer normally gets distributed in SF, but City Beer Store had it so I had to try.

A: Unlike the picture above, this one is a foggy classic West Coast Amber orange hue.

    N: Bright citrus flavors.

T: Orange and particularly tangerines flavors jump out over a piney resinous base. Slight bitterness lingers.

M: What you'd expect from a 9.8%. Medium leaning towards thick for an IPA

O: I get why this beer is well liked here on BA. It's a strong DIPA with East meets West sensibilities. The alcohol is well hidden and it's a good ride while it lasts.

For the DIPA style, it's probably in my top 3. Rating: 4.4

Good afternoon all. I'm going to try and clean up a pretty long backlog of Michigan beers for this Labor Day weekend NBS.

First up is this Short's Key Lime Pie.

Looks a lot darker with its translucent and dark orangey or burnt sienna color, then what I imagined it would look like before I poured it, as the suggestion of lime made me think of something much lighter. Virtually no head to speak of, in fact, not even any meaningful fizz remained around the edges a few minutes after the pour.

The nose does impart some lime to be certain, but also has biscuity qualities as well as a touch of corny sweetness.

Tastes immediately tart with a definite lime kick that fades off moments before a full dose of crackery maltiness creeps in for a moment , leaving behind a bitterness that can't really explain and the now realized, artificial-ness of the lime as an aftertaste.

I can appreciate the effort, but it's not "up there" on my list of things I like and would have again.

Good afternoon to all the NBS faithful and thanks to Dave for the great send off and the mention of the start of round 4 of NBS BIF. Yes I'm already in this round and looking forward to the destruction of another porch.
It is a beautiful early fall day here in Central NH about 75* and sunny with a little breeze. The gardens are doing well in spite of huge drought we have here.

Were hoping for some rain from the tail of the tropical storm coming up the coast as we badly need it here but at this point I don't the amount will help much.

Now on to my beer for today and it is Jack's Abbey Copper Legend. This style of beer doesn't usually fit my wheel house but I try a few in this style each year and have had some great beers from Jack's Abbey in the past.

Good afternoon, all! This Parkway Majestic Mullet is another one I picked up based on the name. And the label. And because it's a Koelsch-style ale from Virginia. What could possibly go wrong? In this case, nary a thing. Pours a nice, hazy dark yellow, lots of white foam and a little sticky lacing. There is a bit of yeast and a hint of orange that compliment the light malt aroma. There is quite a bit of complexity to the flavor profile as well. In addition to the yeast funk, I'm picking up some soda cracker and a lot of orange zest that carry through on the aftertaste. This finishes dry, with a little astringence and citrus-zest bitterness. So easily drinkable that I finished it before I was half done writing this review.

I hate dark smokey beers, but after having a smoked pilsener from Evil Twin and liking it, I'm sort of looking forward to this. It's in my fridge. I kinda hated the hoppy red. I'll try the others next week with skepticism

    Howdy, NBS people.

It is a hot fallish sort of day here in MTL. It is always a shame to know that summer's about over, but it is great weather for physical activity. Warm enough for shorts, cool enough to not sweat too much. I just got back from some exploring on my bike. There are so many good paths around here that I always forget to try new ones. This one took me past the port, to the World's Fair grounds. And then on a trail along the river. I even rode around the F1 track. About 16 miles in total.

I went past some beer landmarks, too.

Not to be pedantic, but I think it would actually be a Trans-Pacific saison. This is a beer I got from a most excellent Advocate of Beer (Cheers, chief!). I have only had one other beer from this brewer and it was fabulous (a stout). Let's see what this one is like.

    Gushy

It is a bright yellow in the glass with a huge cap of white fluff. The aroma and the flavor are both that of a dry saison and accented by a bright, juicy, slightly spicy/tart flavor combination from the hops and the yeast. Really nice, really refreshing, really drinkable. I was really impressed with this one and would definitely pick it up in a second if I saw it again.

    My full review is here.

Have a great rest of your weekend, everybody!

Next up is Monkey Mouth from Grand River Brewery

Force poured this one a bit but was rewarded with only about 1/2" off head over this full on opaque dirty orange beer.

Nose is pleasant, plain and simple. Fun lemon, a little bit of pine and a nice represent from the maltiness as there's some decent sweetness in there as well.

Taste is identical to the nose at first but finished far more bitter than sweet.

The rather thin finish takes away any chance for anything overly cloying in the aftertaste, as there's not much linger.

Pretty decent for sure - if grab a sixer of I was looking for a flavorful yet easy drinking IPA.

Excellent beer. Mild peppery hop flavor nicely balanced nicely with malt. I am really into the clear yellow color on this beer also. And a sausage fest with a great Oktoberfest.

G' afternoon NBS-ers! Thanks to @cavedave for kicking it off today!
My entry for today is not getting great reviews here, so let's see what we got....

    CCB Seasonal Sneak
    [IMG]

Bottled on 06/13/16. I love the label and it's play on the "seasons" and accompanying story.

Poured a lovely amber to reddish brown with a thin 1/2 finger's worth of a khaki tan head. Tiny islands of lacing left in the glass.

Aromas..I'm not getting the typical pumpkin pie spices right away. Picking up on a coffee aroma, like a cup from the morning that has been sitting on your desk and is now cold and slightly stale. Getting some bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon, and nutmeg as it warms up.

Taste? Interesting. It's definitely got chocolate and pumpkin flavors to it. Unfortunately I am picking up on a wet cardboard taste to it, but just a little. Getting cinnamon, vanilla, semi-sweet chocolate and an almost orange like taste as well.

Mouth feel starts out full, but finishes thin and watered down. The spices linger, but it's a little odd.

Overall, I was really looking forward to this beer when I heard about it, but it is just a little bit of a let down. It's not a drain pour as I have read in other reviews, at least not for me, but it is just a little on the odd side. Chocolate and pumpkin, how can that be a bad thing right? Well this one needs just a little bit more work with the flavor profile. Was hoping for a little bit more than this provided.

    Cheers!

L-The beer pours clear and golden. Very much like a pilsener. The head from an aggressive pour is bone white and fluffy, standing 3 fingers high. The head leaves a smattering of residual lace and retires to a half centimeter ring.
S-Light oranges are the strongest portion of the nose, with some lacto sourness coming through.
T-The orange is really faint here which is a touch disappointing. The taster I've had on draft was much stronger in this regard. The tart lacto character makes up most of the front of the palate. The mid palate is where the salt starts to make an appearance and blends itself nicely into the tart character of the beer.
F- Pretty standard for a Gose being light and refreshing. The salt really helps the beer finish somewhat dry.
O- If it were just supposed to be a plain Gose, it would get higher marks from me. I mark it down slightly for the lack of orange in the taste. Still as a Gose its nicely tart and salty which really saves it in my eyes.

Good afternoon all. Thanks Maria again for the wonderful jumpstart.
Back from a few days in Maine settled in and waiting for the new job to start. I'm beginning to think they should call Portland "Seafood Beer Town" Much raw and cooked fish plus so many choices on beers its like an adult craft/food amusement park. Guess you can tell I like it there. The out to Pemaquid where he lives, great time but would have been better had I known I was going to accept a job offer. Going to jump on the Oktoberfest bandwagon with:
Two Roads Ok2berfest Marzen style lager.

Pours a beautiful copper color with lots of columns of fine bubbles. The head is off white and is short lived. Lacing almost none.
Nice enticing sweet bread aroma with spiciness of hops and slight clove.
Great balance on the taste of sweetness from malt, lager yeast, spicy dry hops. Sweeter than most I've tried this year so far- but everything plays together really well. Cleaner tasting and truer to style. I think I'm liking this over SN. Need a side by side.
Feel is crisply carbonated that washes the tongue of the sweet malt and the dryness and clean full flavor make this a super easy drinker. Could see doing a few liters of this one.
Two Roads disappointing many times and I think it may be partially [IMG] due to freshness issues.
My favorite beers: O'l Factory dry hopped PIl's (in cans), Roadsmary's Baby ( for those" pumpkin beer hating want have one people") and now Okt2berfest.
Thanks for taking the time, Enjoy your Holiday if you're not working.
