How beautiful! Nice warm sun. I had a bad cold a couple years ago that took away my sense of smell for a good two months. You have to wait it out. Lots of rest and all that sunshine! =) Cheers!

My second attempt at a Trillium beer. A nice hop-bitterness on the back end here. Definitely announces itself as an IPA and not a pale ale like the GDH Fort Point I had the other night. Juicy up front though, loving the tropical fruits on the nose. Outstanding smooth mouthfeel. Great beer.

If I had to pick a single style I'd like to see made more common in America, Altbier would top that list. Fortunately, I had a superb U.S. brewed example a few weeks ago from Chuckanut.

Happy NBS! I never did get around to posting my new beer last Sunday; just too darn busy this time of year.

Today's new beers are brought to you by @jhavs and @smanson56
I will need to work through these as BIF 4 (MWK) boxes are starting to ship. I'm not sure if anyone has topped my 411 oz total, but it's hard to keep track as the posts just keeping coming non stop.

@jhavs and I did a small swap so I could try some Focal Bangor. Naturally there were a few other treats involved.

It pours with a hazy orange appearance with a 2 finger white head, great retention and thick lacing on my glass. Aroma is bright with juicy tropical notes. Flavor is very tropical and dank, pineapple, mango, and papaya with hints of berry. Finish is on the bitter side. Feel is medium, well carbonated, and finishes dry. Another outstanding beer from The Alchemist

I'm also working on a ninja box that @smanson56 dropped on my porch this Saturday. It definitely contained some of the best hoppy beers from Trillium.

Little Rooster poured a cloudy deep apricot color with a foamy 2 finger white head and massive lacing. Aroma is filled with ripe tangerine, kiwi, and some peach. The flavor is very similar with soft yet bright hoppy notes and some faint biscuit malts. Feel is lighter, very juicy and carbonated. It is simply delicious and refreshing.

My wife and I were just planning the menu for our Fall/Oktoberfest party in a couple of weeks, and one of the dishes will be an ancho/beef stew. I'll definitely include some pumpkin or winter squash chunks in it, maybe even a touch of cocoa powder, etc. Anyway, seeing this beer made me think that a dish along those lines may be what inspired the blend of ingredients.

This particular cold that's going around took me a while to get over as well- too long. Still, I think a saline rinse twice a day really keeps things in check, and may even shorten the duration.

You're probably already doing this, but plenty of fluids and nasal saline

My Physician once told me a joke about this. It goes like so:

If you treat a cold it takes about a week to get over it. Leave it untreated and it takes about 7 days.

    25th Anniversary Double IPL

    Otter Creek Brewing / Wolaver's
American Double / Imperial Pilsner / 8.50% ABV

    4.25/5 rDev -0.9% | Avg: 4.29
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

L-Held up to the light the beer pours a slightly hazy golden yellow. The head is a fluffy bone white standing two fingers high. Lace is present in quantity and sticks to the side of the glass until it drys.
S- The nose is medium in intensity and consists of very pleasing blend of grapefruit, lemon, and pine.
T- The taste is pretty much the same as the nose except amped up another notch. Everything kind of works together to form an enjoyable whole. Bitterness is readily apparent, but does not overwhelm.
F- The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium. The carbonation is lightly prickly. There is a slick oily texture to this beer which allows the flavors to linger on the tongue. This may be the best part of this beer.
O- The is a dangerously drinkable beer. The 8.5% is not detectable. I'd happily drink this beer were it available readily. This easily takes my top spot for Otter Creek brews.

Thank you, Maria, for starting this week's NBS thread. And thank you for the more than excellent review. I gave up a long time ago trying to emulate your reviews.
A quick transition from summer to fall. A beautiful day today, although it started off at 40 degrees. This coming week looks very seasonal.
My beer today is Breaking Bud, from Knee Deep Brewing Company. Has there been a better television series than Breaking Bad? Here's a poor schmuck who teaches high school chemistry, has a second job to make ends meet, whose wife is pregnant, and he finds he has terminal lung cancer. He wants to provide for his family so he decides to cook meth in order to make money. His gradual moral deterioration is something to watch.
    Anyway, on to the beer.

Breaking Bud is a hazy orange color with a small white head that nevertheless leaves some lace.
The aroma is citrus, sweet fruit, pine, and some caramel.
The taste follows the nose. Melon, grapefruit, and pine. Nice caramel background.
    A medium-bodied, fairly crisp beer.
    Very drinkable.

-this is the second review of this new beer today LIC Beer Project's Backjump IPA.
I picked this up last Sunday and was able to wait to crack one until noon today.

The pour is more cloudy than hazy with 1 cm of very fine effervescence. Lacy rings fully mark each draught. The aromas are citrus and tropical fruits with grapefruit and passion fruit up front. The flavors are commensurately juicy. The hops balance the fruit flavors very well and are not sharp. The finish is soft and smooth, but the hop wash persists pleasantly. I would enjoy many of these consecutively for many days. Perhaps it is okay that I only purchased four.

I've heard that, but two weeks seems to be the norm now for the past few years .

Anyway, if you're prone to sinus infections, like I am, anything to keep that from happening is a big help. Ever since I've been doing the saline rinse I've had very few infections, where in the past it used to be almost a guarantee if I got a cold.

Oddball Brewing Pasty Monk Belgian Strong Dark Ale. From New Hampshire. This is available only at the brewery as a test batch and was untapped for the first time on September 24, 2016. So it is 24 hours old - making it pretty new. The brewer acknowledged that the color was not what he hoped. It was a kind of apple cider looking amber. with little to no head. The lack of head is probably connected to this being 9.8% ABV. That 9.8% booze is pretty noticeable on the nose and in the flavor but it also has a kind of white grape or wine-like character. I think they are going to try it again with a few tweaks but this is a decent start.
