I don't know for sure that my pictures are viewable to the other people in the thread (though they show up fine for me), but I was able to email a picture to myself from my phone, then open the picture in email on my browser, right click it and "copy image", then paste it right into the posting box here in the same browser.

    Hopefully that's helpful.

Good evening, all, and Happy New Berliner Weissbier Sunday! Berliner Weisse is becoming one of my favorite styles. It's light on the palate, it's refreshing, and it's a good accompaniment to a variety of foods. Not only that, but you can occasionally find world-class examples of the style that are brewed right in your own back yard. This is Blackberry Bohemian from Exile Brewing, Des Moines, IA. Striking appearance, one of the prettiest I've seen:

The fruit flavors are quite understated and provide an added dimension to the profile without overpowering it. Tart, but not too sour. Very nicely balanced and drinkable. I paired this with a hot dog and a chunk of Parrano cheese, because it's been a long day and I didn't feel like screwing around in the kitchen on New Beer Sunday with two big muddy dogs running around.

Innis & Gunn Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale, take it or leave it. 3.6-ish

Pours a crimson-hued caramel with a thumb of tan head, good head retention & lacing

    S: Smell is nuetral

T: Slight cola flavor dryness, faint woody hops up front, along with a little caramel. Caramel & woody hops, plus dryness as this warms; a little fig too, as well a leafy hops. Finishes dry with leafy hops, & a little cola sweetness, faint raisin & figs as well

    MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

Not bad, but not a good value, so this is a take it or leave it beer for me

I believe I am done with Innis & Gunn; a poet & don't know it... I can't get behind beers being this pricey & so meh...

New (canned) Beer Sunday pt 2

Oksar Blues Deviant Dales (imperial?) IPA

This one has been on my to-try list for a while. Now that is its return, and made the move to 12oz cans, I was able to find it as fresh as I have seen it (canned 1/8/17). The appearance is much more crimson than the typical imperial IPA, but if I remember right Gubna is along the same lines. The aroma comes across very sticky and malty, with the hops rrally only lending sweet orange and resinous pine notes. Even eith that said, it smells valanced and inviting. The tastes is definitely has that sticky sweet orange thing with the resinous pine note taking it to the finish line. It is rich for what it is. DOverall a good beer. If comes across as an imperial IPA to me, which is ehat yhe label claims as well (which I believe is new...? BA lists it as a single IPA). I might revisit it again, but with Hop Stoopid in 6pks at a slightly lower price, it likely wont be often.

If I can stay awake and alert enough to write something for my next 2 new beers, I'll return. Until then, cheers NBS!

hmm... interesting that you mentioned Gubna for the look. I had this for the TbT event a week+ ago, and I thought it did remind me a tad of Gubna in taste, at least. If I had them side-by-side, I'd likely think my statement was crazy, but for now...

Honestly, I was going off of pure memory. But, I dedcided to fact check myself

Pretty sure I used a different filter, but Deviant Dales actually appears darker . But either way, neither are as golden as others in their style.

And I concur with the flavor similarities as well. Must be how OB rolls.

Really not my style at all , but New Glarus Ode Bruin is terrific. Their Thumbprint Series Apple and Cranbic are a bit tart more than sour , a bit funky , but neither of the above puts off a novice like me. A bit of fruit and funk is nice. I'd love to have their beers here. I don't want vinegar.

I love the Glarus stuff too; but there are plenty of classic Belgian Flemish style beers that have the more subtle funk and lactic/vinegar notes out there. I love both kinds for different reasons. It all depends on the brewer's intent and what the wild bugs of the area feel like producing. Wild spontaneous fermentation is very much a gamble, much of the reason why they always will blend the barrels to reach a final product. I have seen a mixed bag on the American productions on the vinegar/funk levels along with the level of lacto acidity. You really have to test the waters to know which breweries you prefer, because their final products will nearly always have similar character.
