Good evening gang, here's another entry I was working on until my bro texted me to come over for a few beers. No offense, but I set the post aside for some brotherly love. The new beer was Exsqueeze Me? DIPA from Transient and it was collaborated with Mikerphone. There's no date on the can, but I purchased it at the release last Thursday. The abv. is 7.5% and I poured it in my Transient Teku for the review.

In short it was another top notch hazy and juicy beer from Transient. Truth be told, without the label I'd have a difficult time separating it from their other IPA's as there is a redundancy in smell and taste. It's not necessarily a bad thing because each release brings the same good quality. The only minor detractor for me was the light feel it had for a DIPA.

Here's the link to the review, my apologies for the abbreviated post.

Delving once again into the box from @cavedave it feels like anight for a big boy beer, and I forgot I had this bad boy.

Quite the thread today. Not feeling the words flowing, but appropriate prayers and thoughts as needed for those who shared today.

The tadpole has been returned to his home swamp. Yesterday was grumpy baby day...a little challenge to the peace and quiet in the kingdom, but he woke up a smiling, giggly bundle of joy this morning...Grampa and Nana were well-pleased.

So, in the glass is The Newburgh Conspiracy, an RIS clocking in at a lovely 11%. The aroma is filling the room...

It might be black, but I think it is about as dark a brown as you can get without being black. Pours thick and flat, then some tiny microbubbles form around the edge and look like a liittle oil slick across the top. The smell is amazing and is filling the room. Sweetness, fruit, a little chocolate but not much. Cola. Brown sugar. A hint of licorice that is more like fennel - fresh and floral.

The taste opens smooth and sweet, like all the dark dried fruits rolled into one delicious bite. There is a definite licorice presence that creates a little tingle combined with the well-hidden alcohol. Brown sugar flavor, some bittersweet chocolate, a little acrid burnt coffee flavor that is just enough. Molasses. Definite cola flavor. This beer is about as heavy-bodied as I have had and if ya want to know what chewy means in beer context, this is a great example. There is a catch of bitterness on the back of the taste, and this baby lingers. A real juxtaposition of lighter, fruitier notes and the dark elements. A pleasing contradiction.

This is a sipper and I am thankful for the sweetness...it will slow me down and let me savor this beer as it warms, because it goes down wayyyy too smooth. In the words of Macklemore, this is f***in awesome.... It is going to land in the 4.3 region.

A favorite excerpt from a favorite musical work.

Going to do a rare cross-post today. I was going to only post to WBAYDN, but this beer had never been reviewed, so here I am! This is the last of my Valentine's chocolate box from my wife. Not the best beer in the box, but it'll do after spending two hours at a crowded Chuck-E-Cheese.

    Carson's Brewery Vanilla Brown Cow

Poured from an undated 22 ounce bottle. It pours a thin, transparent brown color with a very short lasting tan head and no lacing. The smell is interesting. It's a mix of sweet vanilla, malt, and nuttiness. The taste is pretty typical brown ale with lots of nuttiness and roasted malts. I'm having a hard time picking out the vanilla but it's subtly there underneath. The mouthfeel is very thin with medium carbonation. Overall, this needs more vanilla and probably a higher abv than 5% for a bit more depth. It's easy to drink and not unpleasant, but lacks depth, complexity, and thickness of expect from a brown ale.

A couple of hours left to get in under the wire. Nu Skool IPA

Pineapple on the nose, especially right after the pour.It persists as I drink the beer. Flavor is not exceptionally hoppy, but tasty with some tropically fruity notes. This would go down very well on a hot day. A pleasantly drinkable, thirst quenching IPA. Nothing really exceptional but well put together.

I need to add to my post and missed the edit window. Conspicuously missing was any reference to barrel notes in this beer. About forty minues into sipping and the bourbon comes shining through. Vanilla, slight wood char, and a layer of depth to the flavor, grounding this beer even more firmly. Like adding a killer bass line. Man, this is a good beer. It surprises me that it took a while for this to emerge. The beer wasnt that cold when I opend it up...needs to breath? Dont know...dont care...tastes great.

    New Cream Ale Sunday

Victory Blackboard Series Cream Ale with Cold Brew Coffee

Evening, everyone. All the best, especially, to @Victory_Sabre1973 and your family at this difficult time.

This beer is one I swore I saw on NBS earlier today, but can't seem to find the post about. It pours a lightly-hazed orange with two fingers of yellow-tinted white head that last a good while and leave heavy lacing.

Modest coffee in the nose, with strong tortilla-like malts behind. There's a slightly fruity, vegetable-like note in there, too, possibly from the coffee, that makes it smell like Mexican food. Honestly, it's like a tamale or something.

This continues to the taste. There's light, creamed coffee up front, with corn tortilla behind. Less fruity or vegetal than the nose, but there's still a ghost of that in there.

Medium to heavy bodied for the style, with almost a grittiness to it, and fairly strong carbonation.

Never really thought this would be my thing, but tried Coffee JAWN and loved that, so I thought I'd give this a shot. It's okay, but not something I'd come back to again. The approximation to a corn tortilla is pretty remarkable, though, if they wanted to rebrand this somehow.

I usually love IPA's from Stone and so even though I am not a huge fan of the citrusy IPA's, I figured I would give this one a shot. Since its from Stone and even though I don't like oranges too much, I am a fan of tangerines rolled with it.

Stone Tangerine express IPA in a bomber bottle on 1/26/2017.
Look: A dark golden orange with a big frothy white head, that stays for awhile.

Smell: is big tangerine and hops up front and more hops later on. Possibly a little pineapple at the end, but its barely there.

Taste: Lots of tangerine and hops to start, followed by orange and pineapple and a little pine. Solid combination of flavors for an IPA and nothing overpowering.

Feel: A little thinner than it looks in the glass, but still a medium bodied IPA. Has a dry-finish which is something I love.

Overall: Much better than I had expected form a style I am not totally in love with, a Stone IPA does it again for me. Would definitely get again.

Happy New Beer Sunday from the west coast.

Well BA, I think that minus some breweries from across the pond, this is the last must try before I die brewery, Hill Farmstead. I guess I need to get working on a new list. Today's new beer is Hill Farmstead Double Citra courtesy of @dee4maine .

Pours a hazy, almost milky, pale yellow with a rich frothy two finger head that slowly dies down. Very nice lacing.

The aroma here is big on orange and lemon zest. Lighter bits of peach. It definitely leans more into the fruity aspects than the herbal ones but there is a tinge of lemongrass. It's also got a little bit of cattiness but nothing disruptive.

Taste is sweet up front, actually right up until the grapefruit bitterness kicks in, it's sweet. I note the sweetness first because it takes all the fruit flavors and makes them candy flavors. Like the nose, it's orange lemon and peach, in the mode of orange creamsicle, the lemony flavors are sharp and almost come across as tart. The herbaherbal cattiness comes through for a blip with the bitterness.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, very smooth, slightly sticky, and a crisp and biting carbonation although the carbonation is a smidge low (could be attributed to growler format).

Overall this is one of those first brews from a brewery that hooks you and makes you say 'Okay I'm going there and trying everything.' If they excute as many styles as they brew as good as this, they are a superb brewery (and I hear they do). This is a very well made beer, perhaps a bit sweet for my taste buds, but I can sip this all day. I don't frequently get as much of the lemon zest flavors in other Citra hopped beers, Fiddlehead Mastermind had a lot of that going on as well and that's about it, otherwise it's mostly orange flavors. I love it when a beer with similar ingredients shows off something totally different than normal, and this does just that.

    Cheers!

    Howdy, almost Late Night NBS!

    Got a new beer:
New Republic's Marlinspike, a "moreish porter" (Michael Jackson says "moreish" means to have the quality of wanting "more" ... and I don't think that's a joke)

The nose is sweat peat. Flavor is roasted oak, some sweet malt (chocolate, espresso) and an earthy later of something ... hops? burnt malt? The sweetness is big in the nose, not as big in the flavor, but it's a highlight for me and my sweet tooth. And everything is very restrained; nothing here dominates, and the earthy flavor helps balance without becoming medicinal or bitter.

    The review:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/27400/196872/?ba=Premo88#review
    3.96 (+3.1%)

I feel like I underrate it. It's tasty and, in a way, beautifully simple, but it's also 5.8% and I'd love it more if it were 4.8%. There's no pleasing people, huh?

    Cheers!

New (out of state) Beer Sunday, part 2 of 3

    Cigar City Brewing Jai Alai
    [IMG]

Another one from my beer-bucket-list. I have seen this countless times on WBAYDN, and always hoped I'd get the chance to try it. As woth my last NBS entry, this was brought to me by my bff @kenny21435 from his Florida excusion.

As I mentioned above, the golden orange appearance was of no surprise to me. The aroma had a sugary orange sweetness that dominated, with the non-specific tropical and stone fruits taking the subtle supporting role. The flavor carries with that sugary orange sweetness from start to finish. It does have the other fruits and the resinous hop oil flavors that complete the IPA requirements. The body feels a little fuller than many IPAs I have had. It ALMOST comes across IIPA like, and with the 7.5% it isn't really a surprise.

Overall, it tastes like what I imagine Two Hearted would tatste like if it were brewed in Florida. Meaning it has great hop-malt balance but the floral flavors are replaced with candied orange. So glad I got the opportunity to get a whole 6pk of this, and looking forward to see if my thoughts change the next few times I have it.

    Cheers, NBS!

Good evening, all, and congrats @Lingenbrau! That is awesome news.

My new beer for today is Bornem Triple which came in a Van Steenberge mixed pack that I bought primarily to finally try Piraat and Gulden Draak. I'm fairly inexperienced with tripels, mainly because I thought I didn't like them. I think that is starting to change however. Here's my review:

Look- brilliant golden, huge rocky head to start that recedes to about .5 cm that sticks around. Leaves a little lacing

Aroma- starts slightly floral and bubble gummy then veers towards lemon and orange

Taste- starts with the bubble gum, followed by lasting lemon, then finishes with a quick kick of bitterness that is gone almost as soon as it starts. Leaves a tangy aftertaste that becomes more prominent as the beer warms

Feel- medium bodied and creamy, yet crisp from the carbonation

I enjoyed this one, and it has me wanting to try some more tripels.

    Cheers and thanks for reading!

I am glad you are enjoying it! I also got the awesome lemon zest flavor. Very delicate, I should say.
I didn't feel the sweetness as much. What I did feel was how smooth and non-harsh it was for a DIPA.

Greetings NBS! Hope everyone has had a nice weekend and enjoyed some great brews in the process. Obligatory congratulations to the @Lingenbrau family on their new addition to the clan! Was such a treat reading through your post. Very cool of you to share your experience with all of us. The personal stuff makes this site so much better than just being only about beer.

Not to upstage Mr. Brau but today I posted my best golf score (69) of the past 10 months so this is definitely a little celebration beer. Breaking 70 is basically like having a child right :stuck_out_tongue:?

    Anyway, onto the beer!

Bottled just over a month ago and poured into a mug / stein glass.

Standard IPA look. Pours a golden color with a good amount of carbonation and big frothy head that lingers after the pour. Very little lacing.

Smell is very subdued and doesn't jump out at me at all possibly due to the age. Hay aroma with a slight lemon / lime smell in the background and a rye spice is also detectable.

Taste has much more going on than the aroma. Big notes of mango and hop bitterness along with pine. Very little wheat to speak of. More citrus and lime combined with a grassy dank flavor that has definitely faded due to the age of the beer. Has a nice crisp finish and there is a noticeable spice which is the predominant flavor after a big sip of this.

Feel is nothing special just an easy drinking DIPA. The lingering head does make for a nice frothy beer and drinking this out of a mug was definitely a fun choice.

Overall it was an enjoyable beer but nothing too exciting. Stone knows their way around a DIPA and this is just another solid beer from them.

New (out of state) Beer Sunday, part 3 of 3

Perrin / Cigar City / Oskar Blues Triangulation
    [IMG]

Okay, so technically this isn't an out-of-state beer. What it is, though, is a collaboration between two out-of-state breweries and one Michigan brewery. Apparently it was brewed to celebrate the entry of Perrin into the Florida beer market. So, even though it was brewed in Michigan, I feel like it fits the theme, especially since my last NBS entry was my first from Cigar City Brewing.

This beer is an imperial oatmeal stout, and it comes in at 9% ABV. The appearance isn't completely opaque comma with it almost coming across as an imperial Porter with the shades of brown that I can see with the light. The aroma does have some of that signature lactose, but what really stands out is the tropical fruit, almost coconut, that the experimental hops bring. The flavor is definitely milky and his subtle chocolate notes reminiscent of a Tootsie Roll. The aforementioned hops add some of that tropical quality to the flavor but is more of a complementary addition. Because it is a oatmeal stout I don't expect the same sort of richness and density that I do from a Russian imperial stout, but maybe I did kind of expect a little more creaminess from it. But, all in all, the body was medium-full. It was almost equally sip-worthy was it was gulp-worthy.

Overall, I thought it was a very unique take on the style. It is cool to see three awesome breweries come together to celebrate something like this. Even though I am not sure but I would return to this often if given the chance, I am glad I got to try this likely one time offering.

Cheers, NBS! Thanks for another awesome Sunday.

Getting in a little late but it is still NBS somewhere.

This week's NBS entry is a beer that has evaded me for quite some time.

I was enjoying this whole watching Warren Beatty screw up the Oscars. He was the handsomest man in Hollywood. Now he is strange looking (too much botox) and comes off like a tottering old fool.

My experiences this beer was uneven. The look and smell where disappointing. The taste was spot on though.
    Here's my review:

    4.14/5 rDev -1.4%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

A: Pours near black. Slight ring of tan foam that quickly dissipates.
S: Whiskey dominates the nose. Slight hint of chocolate.
T: Much more complex than the nose. Chocolate leads the way. Very little toasty notes. Some sweetness and grain cracker as it warms. The whiskey, which dominated the nose, is present in the background but doesn't dominate.
MF: a little on the flat side. Booze heat present but not boozy.
O: Very good beer. The taste is so much better than the nose. Just a notch below the top beers in this category.

I was enjoying some Bruce live recordings while drinking this. Heres 1 tune
