Damnit!!! It's late and report cards are due. So in the spirit of due diligence, I'm not contributing tonight. But I've enjoyed reading. Sometimes being responsible sucks.

Crisp clean tart, just a fantastic beer

    Here is my review:
    4.51/5 rDev +4.2%
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 5 | overall: 4.5

A: Pours a hazy yellow with an effervescent head
S: Funk is up front with fruit in background
T: Honeydew, kiwi, peach pairs up with some oak and funk.
MF: Light and bubbly. Clean taste that is fruity but dry
O: Loving this beer. Wish their was a hot day imminent because this beer is screaming for one. If the Bruery was thinking of canning something, this would be perfect.

Started off great but the habenero eventually became too much for me.
    Here is my review:
    4.19/5 rDev +1.5%
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

A: Deep dark brown with a tan head. A thin layer of foam remains throughout
S: the nose is chocolate milk with cinnamon and nutmeg
T: the habenero eventually dominates so that all you taste is the heat. In the beginning there is chocolate nutmeg and cinnamon
MF: medium bodied. The mf is good unroll the habenero takes over and Just burns
O: Starts out great until the habenero burns your mouth.
I can tell it is well made but too much pepper for me.

You have to love the heat. The habenero is too much for me. I would take a Prairie Bomb!, Sunday Mole Stout or Mexican Brunch over this one.

I think the ones that describe heat are the good ones. Most often its only chocolate and I end up thinking where was the pepper. Not a beer I would drink every day but for a taste. =) I felt the same way about my gruit beer. Not every day it's a little strong.

Wasn't expecting a brewery visit today, but a friend who stopped by to get lunch suggested we go up to Devil's Backbone afterward, so I figured "hey, why not?"

Started off with a flight of beers I'd never tried before. The now-empty one was a Blackberry Weiss, which definitely had a noticeable berry-ish flavor and some yeasty things going on but was maybe a bit on the too-sweet side. Next over was Three Ridges Tripel, which I really liked -- had a nice light fruity-ish flavor that I'm having a hard time describing, but it was very nice and I ended up drinking this little sample way quicker than I thought I was (the 9%-range ABV was not noticeable at all.) Third one was Beyond All Raisins, a barleywine which is listed as American-style on this site but I suspect is probably closer to an English-style since the American barleywine style is usually hoppier (especially when fresh) while this was listed as only having 23 IBUs and definitely did not have noticeable hops in it. Raisins, sweetness, dark bready flavors, maybe something brown-sugary or dried fruit-ish (aside from the raisins), and noticeable but not overly strong alcohol. Finally was Cocoa Bear, which is the chocolate version of their Dead Bear imperial stout. Very chocolatey for sure, my friend and I both really liked this one.

And this one was called Excel Lager, only 3% ABV but plenty of flavor. Mostly hoppy, a light bit of pale malty flavor in the background. This one used a combination of Nelson Sauvin hops and a couple of German varieties, and it worked really nicely -- had a fruity, planty sort of flavor that made me think of the tropical fruit skins you smell walking through the produce section at a grocery store, kind of a similar flavor I get from Galaxy hops in some beers, but not exactly the same. It actually reminded me a bit of the "session IPL" in one of the collaboration variety packs, now that I think about it -- that one was only 3.2% ABV if I'm remembering right, so I wonder if there might be a connection between the two beers.

Man what a lot of great beer opened and enjoyed. Lots of new ones put on my radar, that's for sure. Been a lot of fun, but Monday has begun, and so we all must run, until next day of Sun. 'til then, Cheers!
