I really enjoyed this beer when I had it, and I agree I would have liked a little more "heat" from the chili peppers.

Understandable. I had such sigh expectations for this beer that when I wrote my review I ended up highlighting the bad aspects instead of focusing on the good ones. This wasn't intentional but when paying such a high price for a beer and it being a let down I was a bit harsh in the written part of my review looking back on it. It's a decent beer worthy of around a 4 average.

Happy New Beer Sunday to everyone. Hopefully everyone is enjoying a new beer today. Today I am drinking the Bayrisch Pale Ale from Schönramer. The back of the bottle describes the beer as their interpretation of an English classic, brewed with German hops.

The apperance is slightly opaque but it's still possible to see through it. It has a beautiful golden/ruby orange color with a slightly off-white head.

The aroma is hops, citrus fruits, malt and a bit of alcohol.

The taste is quite fruity, mainly focusing on citrus fruits with a balancing sweetness. Following the citrus taste comes a bit of bitterness from the hops, which provides a great balance to the beer and lets you know that you are drinking a pale ale. The aftertaste drys your mouth a bit and makes you want to take another sip.

Overall I really enjoy this beer. As they describe on the back of the bottle, I think that it is a great mix of a standard pale ale with German hops. It is definitely an enjoyable beer and is super refreshing on a summer day.

Cheers to everyeone else enjoying a new beer on the fine New Beer Sunday!

Sitting in the airport waiting to board. Great start to the thread, @lordofthewiens . I have two best friends, married one of them! The other I have know since grade school. He and I played in bands together, shot pistols togethet, he got me hooked on motorcycling...all around bad influence. We see each other rarely, but know if either of us needed anything there would be no questions asked.

Sunset where I am headed is after nine tonight. So I am hopin to read a bunch of outstanding NBS posts tonight and log in something cool from the Pacific Northwest.

    Drink on, my friends.

Happy NBS. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm taking it easy and looking forward to the humidity levels to finally drop this afternoon after a week of very uncomfortable weather.

My first new beer is Weihenstephan Original and it was bottled May 3, 2017. It pours a clear pale gold, with a 2 finger frothy head that fades into a cap and leaves some webbed lacing on my glass. Aroma is sour dough bread, light noble hops, with some grain and a hint of lemon zest. It has a light balanced flavor, with some sour dough bread, lemon zest, a light hop presence for a bitter sweet finish. Light bodied with soft carbonation that finishes crisp and smooth. A true delight to drink.

It pours very hazy and with a nice head. Some visible yeast sediment. The aroma is much like a hefe with lots of banana and clove. Some funk too. The taste is much more bitter than your usual Belgian Wit and I could swear that there are some Brett notes. Some orange notes as well! Smooth mouthfeel. Very enjoyable!

    Howdy, NBS friends!

@lordofthewiens got me thinking same as the rest of you with his great opening. My circle of friends has grown small since college, but it's been of no less importance to me. In fact, as I grow older, I find myself enjoying my friendships more and more and working harder to carve out time for them. Did exactly that recently and will be driving to Houston on Friday just to sit side-by-side with a good friend at his favorite watering hole for a few hours of catching up.

It's a new American-made farmhouse ale Sunday for me:
Jester King's 2017 Hibernal Dichotomous, a farmhouse ale brewed with grapefruit, rosemary and dried red chilis

A wall of yeast aroma rises up from the fluffy Belgian-inspired head of foam and fills your senses. The first sip is surprisingly sweet with a cool zing (almost minty) from the rosemary, and then we're off and running down a path that includes more aroma and flavor notes than I can keep track of. Citrus (orange first, then hints of grapefruit) in the nose, a tiny black pepper spice in the flavor, a sour dill-pickle aroma, the yeast and some funky barn-must joining the flavor notes, sweetness returning to the flavor from the malt, those nose losing the dill pickle thing and settling into tart wet hay ... the journey is amazing. I can't believe how sweet it tastes at first ... not sugary sweet or anything overboard but sweet enough to cut deeply into Jester King's formidable yeast profile.

Ok, finished the round. Hurt my wrist on hole 11, really hurt it on 12. Played half swings the rest of the way in and only doubled one hole (luckily short par 4s with no trouble going home). Before the day, would've loved an 86. Hard to say I'm disappointed, but I sorta wonder without a wrist injury...

Anyhow, figured I'd be more verbose in my review (second can).

From the beer on the lip, it looks fairly clear, light golden. The nose has a sweet malt note, similar to some adjunct lagers. There's a light spice to it, as well as a day old cut grass note.

Taste (which I originally indicated was dry) does show that malt note up front, but a light roasted note come before the bitterness starts to gain. The bitterness is earthy and a tad grassy, as noted. A very light hint of bite, aided by a nice carbonation does come eventually, but it's not the level I expect. Maybe the other bitter notes are in the way.

Anyhow, not too bad a beer, but one that I think seems tuned a little towards cross-over drinkers than trying to go full on to the Czech Pils style. If I could get a good look score to complete a review, I'd probably be in the 3.25 -3.5 range here.

Edit: The other good thing was my friend played much better on the back. I only beat him by one stroke .

Good afternoon NBS, hope everyone is doing well. For the first time in a few Sundays I have both the time and energy to do a few reviews today and the theme is dark beers! I'm starting today with Tired Hands newest lager, Trendler Schwarzbier. I personally enjoy Tired Hands lagers and feel like they get over mainly over looked because they aren't crazy hoppy and a little pricey. Here is my full review:

    4.08/5 rDev +1.5%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

16 oz can, dated 7/19/17, poured into a pint glass

A- Pretty much black with a two finger tan head. Holding it up to a light it is a dark brown with ruby red highlights.

S- Pilsner malts, some hints of roasted malts, some toffee, hops are mainly herbal/earthy with some fruity/citrus undertones.

T- Pilsner malts, touch of roasted malts and bitter chocolate, some fruity/citrusy hops upfront, finish is bitter mainly earthy/piney with hints of coffee.

    M- Smooth, crisp, light body.

O- A solid, easy drinking lager. Some of the dark malts used are a little lost in the taste. Would recommend if you have enjoyed other beers in their Trendler seriers

Happy New Redd's Ale Beer Sunday (Week 648)!

My best friend from childhood has been in recovery for over twenty years now (we recently attended a celebratory picnic), so it would not be fitting to toast him. Instead, I will toast some of my Navy buddies, Scotty-Bro & all of the surviving members of the USS Normandy (CG-60) SDBG, having lost Kenny, Jim & Coy-Dog as well as Baby Doc. I don't keep in touch with everyone that I encountered over the course of my career, but there are many with whom I do.

Today's entry from me is a tad strange. I have been working diligently to eradicate The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody as well as getting The CANQuest (tm) back on track. This has enabled me to CANduct a number of brewery horizontals, but even I was incredulous when I realized that I have a slew of Redd's Ales of various stripes with which to not only perform a horizontal, but also a number of bottle/CAN side-by-sides. I began simply, at the beginning with BT/12-fl. oz. CN/16-fl. oz. CN:

I dunno, but the flavors were too tart in this one to be evocative of a Red Delicious, which is what they portrayed on the label. I then switched to one that should have an inherent tartness:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/105/160791/?ba=woodychandler#review

and it did. I wanted to delve into the fruit adjunct entries, but that will have to wait until later.

On-deck? Raspberry, Blueberry & Ginger, the first two in both bottle & CAN. From there? Strawberry as a segue to the Wicked Strawberry Kiwi CAN, finishing with the Wicked Blood Orange CAN.

    See yinz next week.

Do you have consistent wrist or hand trouble? If so, you might consider taking glucosamine. I mention it because it's worked wonders for the golf-induced arthritis in my left hand.

Did you earn anything for your victory? :grinning:

    Howdy NBS-ites!
It is a beautiful day so far here in Montreal. Perfect temperature, light breeze, sunny. Best of all, though, I don't have to work, finished running errands and I have some new beer to try and ramble about on here with you fine folks.

My first beer today is Lux Rye Ale from Bissell Brothers. It was brought to my doorstep by an ever-awesome BA from up around these parts. I haven't had many beers from Bissell but they have all been excellent. I am holding out hope that this one will be no different.

It pours as glowing and cloudy as one would expect with good head retention and lots of lacing.

The beer smells like if a bunch of healthy people were taking a break from working super hard harvesting peaches in the sun and they decided to smoke a joint.

The flavor is drier and more bitter but still is in the same vein as the nose. There is definitely a sharp-ish rye character that really makes this one great in my opinion. The hops cover the fruity and bitter ends of the spectrum while a peppery, slightly astringent flavor hold up the middle and finish. Very drinkable, very enjoyable.

If you are interested in my "real" review, it's here.

As for @lordofthewiens theme about friendship, a toast!

New Wild Ale Sunday (Week 648)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Tasty weather here today, not so hot nor humid as it's been. Planning on hitting Hemlock Ridge today to look for chanterelles, a bit late in season around here, but it's been soooo hot lately I have only been out once so far.

My story of friends has to do with a friend named John I had from youngest age who lost touch with me back in early 70's when I devoted my time fully to the movement and taking Dr. Leary's six word advice. He stayed in school and graduated, and moved away from New York. He got back in touch with me when the Unabomber thing was big and I joked with him that he only did it in case it was me and he could get the reward. Turns out he lived in Sacramento Ca. area. There were tough times for me along the way, including tragedy, divorce, homelessness, and victories too, a constant struggle to re make a post tragedy life first for me and finally for the wonderful family I now have. For him, though, things seemed so great, the news was always so upbeat and wonderful, he finally got married, huge valuable home, bucks ahoy, was in a working Dead cover band in his spare time. When his wife died two years ago he decided to come east and we got together for a few days after not having seen each other for 32 years, and it was great.

I have a very close group of friends here I would trust with my life. Some have been friends for 25 years, some not as long, but I am blessed with them. Two days ago I got a message from John in Sacramento who wanted my birthdate. He didn't want to tell me why but when I called him to ask it turns out he wants to make me a beneficiary in his will. I was shocked. We were old friends but had been largely out of touch for so long. Turns out that on the way to financial success he never made any good friends, and never had any children of his own, and he hated his ex wife's children, so he was looking for whom to bequest his assets and his two brothers and two oldest friends were it. I was so sad to hear this.

This story is long but it is to say this. Friends are the one thing you can count on in life, always cherish them, and be the kind of person who is a trusted friend who always will be there and you will have a group of friends who feel the same.

This beer is already an old friend after 8 oz.'s, and big thanks to @Wasatch for providing it to me. Solenna from Funkwerks

This is something relatively new. I was sore after last round. I used to play 2-3 times a week and just practice another 1-2. I have played like 5 times in two years. It reminds me of tendinitis (tennis elbow), which I've had before. Straining body parts my older body isn't used to I think is at its root. One shot through some thicker rough exacerbated it. I will take your suggestion under advisement, however. I do feel I'll get back to the point of liking to get through 18 pain-free.

Figure I'd take a second in this reply to correct what I saw in my review above (not "roasted"):

Hey folks! Corona Light, a new beer to me!

    L. Looks great. Clear, light side of golden, white frothy head lasts a minute and leaves a lasting ring, visible moderate carbonation gently streaming up. (4.25)
    S. Smells like clean hay, undercooked corn, sweet creamed corn, hay-like bitterness. Nothing too overwhelming. (3.00)
    T. Water, lightly sweetened grain, light spicy/grassy bitterness then joins, bitterness increases as it warms. Flavors are light and simple but not even that bad. (3.25)
    F. Pretty light body, leaning toward medium, lower than expected carbonation, pretty smooth, not dry. (3.75)
    O. Not great, but balanced and refreshing. Flavors are muted to the point where I could have more than one. Cheers ! ! ! (3.25)

    New Hazy DIPA Sunday!

This day is going well for me. Enough of this BS, time for the beer!

    Goonda' Faded DIPA.

Off the Jump, this Muv pours Murky and Hazy and down right crazy! Nice cloudy straw blonde body with a soapy white crown. Very appealing by all means.

The aroma is off the Charts! This first hits the nostrils with a Sweet Tangerine Citrus with a back drop of Grapefruit. Some lime comes through and smacks you with a Sprite edge. Second wave flows a stone fruit goodness with Mango and Passion Fruit. Very Nice!

Da Flavah? First hits the palate with straight Hoppy Goodness. Mango and Pineapple as furiously ****** the tastebuds. Second comes the Citrus which is a melange of Grapefruit and Tangerine pith and a Lemon Grope. Acidic as all get out, which I dig! The Malts are barely present with a honey graham cracker vibe. This finishes slightly late with a decent amounts of Bitterness and Hop Resin. Aftertaste of Weed Stem and Tangerines. The feel on the palate is medium with a slight smooth body, carbonation is slightly rough but I'm okay with that.

Overall: Damn! This is a DIPA! Dense aroma and Dense Hop Flavor that almost comes off as Abrasive! You can tell that a large amounts of Hops were put into this beer but came out palatable and phenomenal! It reaches that boundaries of becoming insane yet classy. Enough of me running lip, this Brew is Highly Recommended for people that like over the top DIPAs.

    Grade: A+

Gose with Guava by Collective Arts Brewing

As a Gose goes, this one is more wheaty than tart. The salt is noticeable, but not overwhelming.
the guava is subtle but present. Mouthfeel is light and the carbonation is likewise subdued. A very drinkable example of the style. I would drink it again, but I prefer my Gose a little more tart.
